Aren’t the salaries prorated in which the salary being acquired isn’t the full hit? Forgive me as the cap is just another animal

Still think nyr should try and add foegle. Can be a similar acquisition to when they first got vatrano. Could be cheap a player to add since edm is trying to clear space to add higher salaried players like fl was trying to do w/giroux.

Why would Edmonton trade him ?
Ufa sure next year

I know the whole Tarasenko-retention topic is kinda polarising but Seravalli now confirms it as well.

I’m not surprised if he signs next year with NYR though

I like Foegele but he is a left wing and really not a top 6 guy in an ideal world.

He can play right. And he is not intended to be a top 6 guy. He can sub in when necessary, but Kakko should be in that spot. He's better than all of the realistic options being discussed (i.e., we're not getting Buchnevich, Guentzel, etc.).

You move Kakko up, run with a bottom 6 of:

Cuylle/Vesey-Wennberg-Foegele
Cuylle/Vesey-Brodzinski-Goodrow/Edstrom

I think getting Mika back to his old self is priority #1 for this team, if they want to get out of the East.

Although there isn't a ton out there, it will be pricey and theres absolutely no guarantee or expectation that whoever you bring in will help round him back into form offensively.

Its almost better leaving Kakko there and finding multiple depth pieces, one of which - like a Foegele - who could come cheap, has an all around game and the potential to be given a shot with the bromance as well.

Not ideal in a perfect world, but over extending for a guy like Vatrano with the numbers imo isnt really that much better.

he would be tied for 3rd with Lafreniere in ES scoring on this team.

He plays with McDavid doesnt he?

Kakko isnt a top 6 guy either. They need a guy who can score up there. Doesnt need to be Buch or Guentzel but Eberle, Vatrano and Zucker even are better options because they can actually put the puck in the net. Im sure there are other guys I'm missing.

As stated in the tweet, edm needs to shed salary if they want to add a top line wing like Buch or guentz since they barely have any cap space. Florida did the same thing when they traded vat to nyr so they could acquire giroux and kulak

Sparingly - they have 91 minutes together at 5 on 5 this year.

Way more time with Draisaitl than McDavid.

The point is it doesn't really matter who he plays with - he has been a net positive on pretty much any line. Perfect for a depth guy. He's a better fit than Vatrano likely for half the cost.

I mean Im not going to be unhappy about adding a guy with some beef who can score 5v5

Good scouting report on Foegele here as well:

The most surprising statistic of his profile is his high-danger passing. Foegele places in the 83rd percentile of high-danger passes per 60. His passing statistics have skyrocketed compared to years past.

They could use a forward who has solid forechecking and 5 on 5 metrics

Now that Pittsburgh continues to blow opportunities, I wouldnt mind going after Reilly Smith. The contract is tough to fit because I doubt Pitt retains but he is another really good fit for the Mika/Kreider line. Experienced player who can play any situation.

Vatrano is not a better option. Zucker hasn't been a top 6 guy in like 6 years. He has 1 more goal than Kakko. Eberle is ok I guess?

If Kakko/Foegele fail in the top 6 spot, then you look to make a bigger move in the summer. You don't throw around a bunch of firsts+ to get waiver king Frank Vatrano.

No one said anything about a first. If Drury was willing to give up a first for Vatrano he would be here already.

The forechecking numbers are a key for me. Anyone who can get in and create space for Mika and Kreider.

Jones and a 1st for Chychrun

Maybe follow suit with the league and have a bottom dweller retain for a mid pick

Chychrun/KAM Fox
KAM/Cheech Trouba
Lindgren Schneider
Gus

It's not what I'd want the pairs to be, but it's what this coaching staff would put out

Something tells me you're not getting Lindgren and Fox split up so a move for a D other than depth is moot.

I'm at about 75/25 we get a significant trade. Someone with another year on their deal and maybe retention. Just a gut feeling.

I'm completely fine with some depth moves though. I'm convinced we just need to park Kakko at 1RW and it will work out.

That would be great. For all this talk about how "everyone wants to play here" we never really see players sign here at a discount (No, Panarin doesn't count. 11.6m is not a discount).

Tarasenko signing here for 2.5m would be considered a discount. Let's hope it happens.

That doesn't work when you're talking about LTIR because LTIR can't be banked.

Contracts aren't really prorated. Cap hits are calculated on a daily basis. The daily amount doesn't change for a given player. The total the team spends against the cap will change based on how many days the player is on the roster. So, if a player with a 5 mil contract is on the roster for exactly half the days in the season, they will cost 2.5 mil against the cap.

LTIR simply allows teams to spend more than the daily allowance against the cap. So, if the team normally can spend 1 million per day, and LTIR allows them to spend 1.05 million per day, it doesn't matter how many days that player is on the roster because he still costs .05 mil per day.

Edit: Another way to look at it is that the player's salary is prorated, but when you use LTIR, the amount you are allowed to spend is also prorated, so it nets out to the same thing.

Friedman mentioning Kyle Okposo for the Rangers, I think @NYR Viper mentioned him a few weeks back. If we want to replace the 35+ year old skating in mud role on the top 6, I think he is perfect. He's and Islander and cant remember the last time he played in the playoffs. hard pass unless he is cheap as free i guess.

go get Foegele and Zucker for mid picks. done. adds truculence, forechecking, physicality, and skill.

I like that idea but we're one center injury away from Brodzinski in the top 6. We need to add at least one guy who can take a faceoff who isnt a borderline AHL player.

I see the Foeggle rumour now

I don't like it any more than you do to be honest but I think we just wind up living with Brod at center. really don't want a Nico Sturm type especially with Goodrow stapled to the lineup and I personally don't have a better realistic idea.
