KK has some good moments with puck possession but I'm not convinced we would suffer terribly if he left. You tell 'em Sil.

Tell Sil I said it would be beyond stupid to sell KK short and take a loss when, we already see he has good chem w/Cuylle, we just need to upgrade at pivot [Wenn is not the answer]

The only reason to trade Kreider would be if the Rangers decided to do a rebuild and that's not happening.

If you're going to propose trading Kreider, at least identify some players/assets you think he's worth trading for. Yes, he would likely fetch a nice return because he's a really good player on a team-friendly contract.

Kreider also actually showed up for the playoffs last year when the rest of the team was AWOL (except Shesty). I hope Kreider ends up a Ranger for life.

Trouba and Goodrow are the two contracts I'd be looking to get rid of more than anyone else. I still think Lindgren can be an effective bottom-pairing D as long as his contract isn't too expensive. He's got a lot of miles but he's not old.

Mika isn't going anywhere and I still think he's a pretty good player who's capable of more. Keep Kakko unless a really good opportunity presents itself. He's still young, defensively sound and inexpensive despite not living up to #2OA.

Finally, whatever happens in the playoffs this year is going to weigh heavily on people's opinions post-season so I'd wait until the summer and reassess where this team is at.

I'm a Kakko fan, but boy, he doesn't show too much. In the Panther's game, I thought he was having a day off. He needs to show more. Goal, assist, power play, short handed ( I know he doesn't play on the short hand situation). a hit, some thing.... any thing.
I think he's just gotta try to do more on his own rather than be looking for someone to dish the puck off to. He did sling a pass or two through the crease that just missed connection but like...I dunno man, how about at least try to come off the wall and crash the net. If the defenders collapse towards you then try to find an open teammate, if they don't just shoot it.

I felt that line wasn't clicking very well though and I'm just gonna blame it on Brodz

Tbh we would be a lot better if we weren’t spending almost a quarter of our cap on 3 players who are at best neutral and at worst significant net negatives. If the Rangers had the 20 mil in cap space being currently wasted on Zibadejad, Troubad, and Badrow, they’d be in a much better spot.

He doesn’t seem injured.

I think he’s just “saving himself” for the playoffs.

Which I get but it’s also annoying. You don’t see Nate Mack doing that.
MacKinnon is also 4.5 years younger than Kreider and hasn't hit the age cliff (and has always been far more talented than Kreider to begin with)

It looks like Laviolette likes Brodzinski and wants to rotate to get him in.

I have bad news: I also like Brodzinski.

If he really likes Brodzinski, he could just sit that sack of shit Goodrow and put him at 4C, but I digress.

Mika needs to play better but I don't want him gone. I don't think he's a net negative like the other two.

I mean I kinda like Brodz too but he strikes me very much as one of those guys who will flash when he first pops into the lineup and get everyone kinda hyped then he'll pretty much disappear as reality sets in.

Not that during that "disappearing" he can't be putting in some basic underlying work but I still feel like if you want actual scoring results he's going to struggle with that

Kreider shows up every year in the playoffs. Rarely is he not effective in April, May and June. He's also expanded his game more and more. Kreider is at 32 assists which is 7 more than his prior career high. I'm not moving Kreider unless there is a massive upgrade coming in return. Super reasonable contract and on top of it is clearly entrenched in the organization.

There is a much greater chance that Kreider signs another deal (2-3 years) with the Rangers than this being his last one. He has 804 games played. If he plays the remaining 11 remaining he's at 815. 185 away from 1000. If he plays all 82 the next two seasons (81 and 79 the last two), he'll hit 1000 around the midway point of his last year. Only two Rangers have ever played 1000 regular season games for the franchise, Brian Leetch and Rod Gilbert.

Laviolette is not going to sit any of his PK guys. I just can't see it happening. Kakko should be getting PK time by now. There is no reason he is only a ES and PP player. A Wennberg-Kakko forward pair for the PK could cause a little havoc too.

I do see why he likes having Goodrow there, it's one of the very few things he is good at. I do think it comes down to the three we've seen rotated between Cuylle, Rempe, and Brodz, based on matchups or changes he wants to make. Would love to see a Vesey-Brodz-Rempe line because they all can skate and play a tough game.

The problem isn't how moveable he is, that problem is that we wouldn't. He's in the lineup because the Rangers like him.

Even Goodrow. Goodrow is already playing over better options. I don't see the Rangers suddenly changing their minds on Goodrow this summer.

Why players are in your lineup is almost always Ocaam's razor. They're in the lineup because the team wants them there.
Seriously, they think he’s good and it’s that simple. People act like there are reasonable optics/contract related excuses for why they have to keep playing him as if it’s acceptable , meanwhile PHI is scratching Couturier for shits and giggles

Overlooked is 8-2-1 with Edstrom in the lineup. I know Goodrow has the experience and takes some key faceoffs at the end of the game but I'd be finding excuses to get Edstrom in the lineup. Rempe needs to play every home playoff game at the least. I'd love to have Vesey-Edstrom-Rempe and then have Trocheck come in for Rempe for faceoffs late in the games.

Biggest prob is defying bern's advice, we did/do/will not have zero nmc policy.
Don't get me wrong.
Certain guys, some yrs wanna/have to give them close to nmc equiv = like 30 team ntc. Almost/effectively nearly the same, but upholds posture NOBODY gets nmcs, NOBODY.

That would, like Troub, at least make possible to move.
bread/Zib, we are married w/zero flexibility.

Other prob is we gave like a 20OA to Jets for Troub, just to get him early.
We could have just waited til he hit ufa status a few months later.
Aside from loss of pick, we surrendered leverage in contract negotiations.

I get it, but the PK does not justify having non-NHL talent play a regular shift 5v5. Get penalty killers who can play.

I agree but there’s a better chance that I am centering the 4th line come playoff time

The team is clicking so it's time to get hung up 13th forward decisions and Barclay Goodrow's existence. Enjoy these times.

I am enjoying and looking forward to more responsibilities for our young defenseman. Fox, Miller, Schneider, and Jones have all stepped up in the face of major defense injuries. Hoping to see Scanlin get in a game tomorrow, no reason to rush Gus with a head injury. Doesnt say much for Libor Robertson but Scanlin, lefty, 6'4 220. He's got NHL size but idk if he can skate. We've seen the AHL players come up and look ready. Good game to get right into it against a feisty but relatively untalented Philly team, if he does play.
