30 goals isn’t that special these days.

That said , I don’t want to trade Kreider. He’s on a great deal and I like him, even though he’s been playing like a bozo lately.

On the other hand, do everything you can to get rid of Mika and/or Tuba .

Unless Mika goes off in the playoffs, which seems extremely unlikely.

Listen, I'm all for complaining. Don't put bad players on my team.

Even if you apply the "he's not going anywhere" logic, again, don't put bad players on my team. I'm very much a "complain about the weather" type of guy. You're going to be hearing me complain about Trouba for the duration of his tenure so get comfortable.

That being said, you have an impossible case to make trying to convince anyone that Kreider is so bad that his subtraction makes the team better.

And even if you came up with a scenario where you remove him and the team gets better:

1) Why would you risk that?

2) It's not a pressing enough need to take that risk.

Again, this isn't a guy we need to just get off the team because he's bad. He's not even a guy you're willing to take a temporary downgrade from because he's overpaid - he's not overpaid.

Zibanejad, I could be convinced is overpaid (although at the center position, committing absolute theft against Vinny Trocheck balances it out, probably). Trouba just sucks. Lindgren is an injury risk.

Kreider doesn't fit any of those categories. There's literally no reason to get rid of Kreider that isn't personal.

There's currently only 23 guys that have 30 or more goals this season. I'd say that's still pretty special.

It is still is an accomplishment. There are exactly 17 players in the entire league with more goals than Kreider. He's on pace for 38 goals and 75 points. That's a good season.

Why would the Ducks trade for Mika, when they have Carlsson, McTavish and Gauthier on the way?
Because they need an adult (especially a good mentor for Carlsson) and it’s not like they have cap issues. Perfect world they are move Zegras for an upgrade; they don’t need more picks/prospects. Rangers need the cap relief, and hope that Zegras turns into Barzal; and if he doesn’t they can get off that deal quicker and easier. Basically you are kind of hoping to do the Gaborik for Brassard (and to a lesser extend Brassard for Mika) trade again. Doesn’t have to be one of one, but Rangers alleviate some of their cap problems and roll the dice on Zegras change of scenery; Anaheim gets an upgrade and veteran in the room who they don’t need to lock into 1C as the term on the contact keeps moving and their young guys get better. Not a perfect deal, but accomplishes some goals.

Kinda crazy it's come to this, I don't think Kakko is long for this organization. I know Laviolette talked about a rotation but if Kakko is part of it just goes to show he's not that integral to the lineup.

Vince just retweeted that Kakko was practicing on the 3rd line with Cuyle and Wennberg, for the 2nd half of practice. So think he is playing tomorrow.

Because it's fun to fall over ourselves wanting to move the guy on a great contract, producing, and having on-ice impacts like this. If only he skated a bit harder each shift

One day someone will break down one of these charts with detailed explanations.

I'm a Kakko fan, but boy, he doesn't show too much. In the Panther's game, I thought he was having a day off. He needs to show more. Goal, assist, power play, short handed ( I know he doesn't play on the short hand situation). a hit, some thing.... any thing.

I’ve defended kakko for most of this season, but that goal where he backed away from the lose puck, was a clear player who didn’t think they could win a footrace and a big lack of confidence.

He doesn’t seem injured.

I think he’s just “saving himself” for the playoffs.

Which I get but it’s also annoying. You don’t see Nate Mack doing that.
I think this is what’s happening as well. You know these guys are not happy with how the playoffs went last year.

Part of “knowing how to win” is knowing how to pace yourself.

This is the best chance the Rangers have had to win the Cup in decades and these guys know it.

MacKinnon is conservatively one of the 50ish greatest players to ever play the game. When you compare Kreider to guys he should be compared to, he grades out more favorably.

For example, some of the other power forwards from his generation - Max Pacioretty, Evander Kane, Josh Anderson, Jamie Benn, Alex Tuch, Gabriel Landeskog, Timo Meier. Right now, Kreider is pretty easily the best one still playing.
