Also, it’s one kind of bad idea to give up firsts for players who don’t get you over the top when those players are Patrick Kane and Vlad Tarasenko.

It’s quite another brand of stupid to give up firsts when those players are Vatrano and Henrique. These are players that command thirds or fourths any other year.

Yet people on here ready to trade our best assets because these crapbirds are the best available in a sellers market.

They aren’t gonna make a difference people.

Context. It is important. The only reason that ANYONE is remotely comfortable with that deal is because we also dump Goodrow in the process.

I don’t think flipping our players changes anything, but I am curious how they assigned roles. I’ll ask Shayna. I completely agree with the roles they did assign however. Mika is supposed to be this team’s elite center.

Edit: Shayna says it’s a combo of “TOI + role”; I’m assuming that means matchups or zone deployment.
That just shows there’s an issue with them imputing their own personal bias then because Trocheck has played 120 more minutes Mika this year at 5v5, and if you wanna go by puckIQ’s measures, they’ve faced an equivalent amount of elite competition. Trocheck has been played like the 1C all year, which he’s earned. It was insane that a bunch of posters here spent all offseason saying he wasn’t even a 2C on a contender.

Same thing can be applied to Miller and Trouba, and if Trouba’s wonky PP2 is changing things that much, then they need to fix how they define roles. I appreciate the exercise, but Dom’s model needs a ton of work. I’ve written before about why game score isn’t the best measure for hockey. EW’s player model sucks too. The twins and Dom are also knobs about it.

Totally agree. Go under the radar. Tatar. Novak. Duclair. Or, better yet, a hockey trade that nets you a young player for a few years.

Screw Henrique and Vatrano at their asking prices. I'd stand pat before I'd do that.

They aren't crapbirds as you say. I got a bridge to sell you if you think you can get either Vatrano or Henrique for a 4th rounder. Vatrano 26 goals and 45 points would be the 3rd leading goal scorer on this team and Henrique, a center with 16 goals and 38 points is an upgrade over Brodzinski. I'm not saying giving up a 1st and a Berard or Sykora is the right thing to do and I wouldn't do that but don't tell me these players would not help.

We’re going to do more than id like and I’ve come to terms with that, but I hope the overpayment comes in the form of Sykora and a 2nd rather than our first round pick or Kakko

I’d trade our first for Eberle but only if @Machinehead backs me up with a very blue looking chart.

I appreciate first round picks just as much as anyone else but I would keep Sykora and a 2nd over a late first rounder. To me Sykora and Berard have made great strides in Hartford this year and their value has to be worth a late first rounder.

Eberle and Novak would be best case as far as the forwards go.
Sign me up. Both of those teams are in a playoff hunt and just hope Drury doesn't overpay in the final minute of TDL day.
