I'd throw $7-7.5m at Hanifin if he reaches UFA
Til he’s 36-37??? As soon as his legs go a bit that contract becomes an immovable anchor.
Cal and Car fans were already laughing at the team that gives him that on the mains…..you’ll get 3-4 productive years and the rest is dead weight.
Vegas doesn’t care because they have no farm and play the LTIR game unchecked…….
I can see we let Lindgren go/trade and he winds up on Tampa or Boston beating us on their way to winning the cup like McD…
Girardi to a lesser degree, he was no where near a top pair D at that point though

I mean if Lindgren at $5 mill per year is fine because the cap is going up, Hanafin at $7-7.5 is also probably fine

Not that I particularly want to do that. I just dont' think there's any reason at all to hold onto Lindgren like he's something special when the team should be looking for a way to upgrade somehow

Hanifin is 27 years old. A 7 year deal takes him to 34. Yes, I would sign a top-4, very close to top-2 LD who skates very well and impacts the game positively overall for no assets at $7.5m. No questions asked.

Let me ask this a different way. Would you prefer to trade Othmann + 1st + Laba for a younger version of Hanifin and pay him $5m per season or keep those assets and pay Hanifin if he reaches UFA?

We need to compare the overall asset cost because if it's not a UFA like Hanifin, then it will need to be someone and that someone is going to cost major assets to acquire. That someone will eventually need to be paid as well but perhaps it's 1-2 years after Hanifin.

Count me in the group that would prefer to pay $1m too much for a UFA and off-set that by keeping those young, inexpensive assets in the pipeline.

Unless your throwing 7.8-8 mill x 7 for a 30 yr old Hanifin
Or trading assets you don’t want to Berard/Oth/Per/1sts. Show me a better alternative in the next 2-3-4 years???
You sign Lindgren, you don’t have to keep him as 1st pair for the whole deal, but at least you know what you’re getting for the most part…
Pay Skjei big $$$????? Shall I revisit those old threads. People killed him on here……
This team's history shows that won't be the case...if they sign Lindgren, he's married to Fox. f*** that.

He's in Ryan Strome territory AFAIC, I don't want him resigned, even at a ridiculous team friendly number.

Relieved to hear its apparently not season ending. Lindgren ending the last 4 seasons injured is an alarming trend
Blessing in Disguise if Lindy can come back the last week of the season fresh and not banged up.
Plus, with him and Trouba out for a bit, Schneider, Jones and Ruhw will all get lots of reps. Good preperation for the playoffs.

I would resign Lindgren to the 4-5 yr deal with no clauses….
The goal would be a trade similar to 13OA for Romanov/ Tampa drouin for Sergachev/ cutter gauthier for Drysdale type of deal… someone that is cost controlled and young that you can ease into the position….
At that point, you have Lindgren who can either drop down to 2nd/3rd pairing or move for younger assets because he’s still under 30yrs old making under 6mill with history of playing against the leagues top players…..
The point on hanifin is moot. He wants Tampa/Vegas etc this is his retirement deal and taxes will be a factor. Prob have to be 8 mill per to even have him consider ny

With Trouba and Lindgren out for a bit, would it make sense to put them on LTIR and use an emergency callup on someone else like Robertson to get him some familiarity with the NHL guys and practices? I realize Scanlin is up but would this be a case of 'free' black aces practices based on the LTIR space or no?

It's not an emergency call up if you can ice a full roster without any concerns.

The team also obviously does not see Robertson as an NHL prospect. He hasn't played a single NHL game despite being drafted 5 drafts ago, has been called up a few times and never gotten into a game, and has been passed up for call ups for guys like Mackey, Scanlin, and technically Jones from the same draft class.

I just meant just in case. The teams defensive depth isn't exactly stellar at the moment...

What is the point? He's not going to play anyway he's like 11th on the depth chart after the regular six, Jones, Ruhwedel, Mackey (hurt), Scanlin.

I mean I hear you but Trouba, Lindgren and Mackey are hurt. Ruwehdl is playing top-6 minutes and then there is Scanlin. He's 2 injuries or bruises away from playing top-6 minutes.

I'm not saying I want him to play, all I'm saying is he is #2 on the list, perhaps it would be good to get him some practice time with the big club just in case, especially if it costs nothing and he doesn't miss any games (have him during the week and back down on the weekends to play games)

wow that's interesting. thought he'd be there for at least another year.

he absolutely already has a pro-frame though, maybe they saw something there.

They may see him as a 3rd line forward in the AHL, ala Edstrom, who they can develop and groom for that role moving forward versus letting his offensive game develop in college as well.

Surprised. Along with Lamb, I thought Chmelar was staying for at least another year. Interested to see what happens with the other college guys

What are you talking about? Hanifin is only a year older than Lindgren…the contract would be until he’s 33/34.

We dont have a high pick or a surplus of young forward assets to move for a dman….
