I can't wait to see the reactions when vesey scores 2 or 3 goals by the end of the weekend.

When is ADA gonna really get his chance? I guess injuries happen and he will get his chance but still

It'll be the same as it was last year and the year before that.

His rate metrics blow and he scores goals because he gets minutes shoved up his rear-end.

Annoyed that the Caps got Jaskin. Definitely think we could have used him. Gorton sleeping at the wheel, maybe...

I like Jaskin, but we don’t have a slot for him. He’s not beating out Vesey or Lettieri. McLeod, sure, but probably not even Beleskey.

Man those D pairings are just crap

Guess we'll see how it goes as things actually get underway but for all my naysaying earlier it certainly now bugs the **** out of me that they're trying to play McQuaid there. It's either an acknowledgment that the D overall is just absolutely horrendous crap right now or this coaching staff is going to have some major issues when it comes to figuring out how defense is played in the NHL.

Skjei-McQuaid is just bizarre. The way the lineup is structured screams 'balance across all units,' but that's going to be a problem against teams with top lines.

Plus, it isn’t 2014 anymore where he’s a highly regarded prospect everyone was including in their trade proposals (with us sending players to St Louis). He’s played a significant number of games in each of the last 4 years and never really produced more than 4th line numbers. He’s a 4th liner.

I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate these pairings. It's not even funny. Same as AV's "balance on every pair" so every pair inevitably sucks. Smith-Shattenkirk I don't have an issue with but what the hell why the hell not Skjei-Pionk? Those are two solid pairing for us but we had to go and find balance for Marc Staal who shouldn't be in the NHL and we're ruining Pionk's development by saddling him with a dead horse. This is bizzzzzzare. ADA not playing is also a problem.

Staal-Shattenkirk sucked so bad in that game that the options are Staal-Pionk or Staal-McQuaid for Quinn. Staal and McQuaid are both #7 material so Quinn isn't comfortable with that so Pionk has to bite the bullet and take one for the team. Then Skjei has to somehow play top pairing minutes with McQuaid which means McQuaid has to somehow handle minutes that are over his head. This is Girardi Staal crap all over again.

At times, Jaskin looked like the Blues’ version of Fast. There are some parallels to their games. The difference is that Fast has a measurable impact no matter what line he plays on. Jaskin has been tried in the the Blues’ top-six at times, and played well with top-line players on the world stage. But he doesn’t have the same impact as Fast does outside of the bottom six.

My first reaction to the Spooner-Hayes-Zuccarello line was that there's going to be a lot of passing on that line, so I get wanting someone with a different skill set there. But ideally it wouldn't be someone with a skillset as narrow as Vesey.

As someone already noted Vesey won't get to carry a puck much with Hayes and Zuke, so this combination would somewhat address one of Vesey's weaknesses.

I always consider the threshold of what I need from 3rd liners to be 30 points. Fast has gotten there twice. Jaskin hasn’t broken 20 yet. They might have similar playing styles, but Fast is definitely the superior.

Point being, if he was the Blues version of Fast, it was the very poor man’s version.

Yeah it’s not an ideal fit I recon.

Jaskin isn’t a 4th lineer/checker. That is the problem. But he — atleast — isn’t far away from being able to be a PF type higher up in the lineup.

He is a good player but not complete enough to make his own fortune, needs a good environment. And he is also held back due to being a classic bigger winger that can play with the puck and make room for guys around him, but isn’t optimal for an energy checker role.

It’s easy to sit here and speculate, nobody will remember it 30 minutes from now, but wouldn’t be surprised if he ended up somewhere in the near future and stepped up to a level where we regretted not taking him.

Hear me out on this, I know people are angry McQuaid is playing with Skjei but what if, maybe, they want to pair Skjei with a stay at home d-man to develop his offensive game? We all know he’s a great skater, maybe there’s untapped potential there. Outside of McQuaid, the other 3 right handed d-men are all offensive minded like Skjei. Just a thought.

Yeah, I have to be honest and say that I don’t hate the pairings with these 6 playing. A Staal-McQ pairing can hardly be an option...

With these pairings both Skjei and Pionk get more free roles.

i understand pionk may have the better 2 way game and shot and that ADA gambles too much, and so ADA sitting isnt really that big of a deal, but marc staal is a dumpster fire.

plain and simple, hes a traffic cone which is bolted to the ice. his stick skills are .....well, he has no stick skills. he cant skate that great anymore and he cannot receive a pass or shoot.

staal - mcquaid scares me.
