Sather’s little quip about Hayes being in a position to make even more money next offseason than Gorton was ready to pay him this offseason is just horrid cap management.

They’re banking on him maximizing his value as a rental and relying on one of the kids to be ready to take his spot by February. It’s a really bad decision when our C corps is as raw as it as and we only have one legit NHL C, who just happens to have concussion issues.

I’ve been a fan of Gorton’s moves from last season, but this one still bothers me a lot. I’d be more comfortable if we had the wings to help carry the younger Cs, but we don’t.

This isn’t even a rebuild issue either for me. Go ahead and try to get Hughes, Turcotte, or Dach- I’d love to see them in Rangers sweaters. It’s poor insulation for younger prospects on a team that already doesn’t have depth. You need contingency plans, and we don’t have any at C right now.

I disagree. refusing to pay hayes like a top 6 center when you aren't sure he is and then hoping the kids step up so you can move him instead of overpaying him is smart cap management.

That town hall video pretty much just adds to my angst towards this first admitted rebuilding season.

Who said Vesey should sit? He's on the 2nd line with Zucc and Hayes in the middle.

Chytil is on the bottom line with Spooner and Fast as his wingers. Poor Fast, he remains a 4th line guy...

I pretty much want to just disregard anything Sather says at this point.

Why because of Hayes 1 year contract? They drafted two 1st round centers in 2017, of course, it will be competition in Hayes position @Irishguy42. But I doubt that Zib will last very long in NHL so I`ve notion we will keep Hayes next summer. I don`t automatically think that Hayes or Zucc will be moved next year in March TDL unless there are a very good trades in place, and you don`t like players to go open in UFA market without consider resign options. And that is likely going to happen with both Hayes & Zucc if we dont have an ideal value trade in return in end of March 2019.

Sooooooo....Chytil as 4C? Or is that Bottom 6 interchangeable? Cause then that doesn't mean with what they said about Andersson.

Vesey with Hayes/Zucc screams "hey buddy...succeed here for the sake of your NHL career" to me, at least.

You guys are totally misreading townhall comments on Hayes. Nothing changed since when he was signed to one year extension instead of getting a multi-year dial. Gorton is not and will not be willing to sign Hayes to $6+MM contract for 5-6 years with movement restriction clauses if in two years or less he'll be 3C. I wouldn't advocate this either. At this point Hayes' one year contract is an insurance policy while kids developing isolate them from roles they are not prepared to take on (until they do). They also leaving room in case of something unforeseen happens this year with our center prospects development - to sign Hayes to this undesirable extension if they are forced to.

What Sather was saying was kind of an appeal to Hayes to consider a shorter 2-3 year deal because maybe he'd get to sign a $7+MM deal on the next contract. Nice try...

2 RD spots for ADA, Pionk and McQuaid. Times 82 games that's 164 games. Equally allocated that's about 55 games each, maybe more for ADA and Pionk after McQ is moved. That's plenty. I don't like McQuaid in top4 but other than that - what's the problem?

I really wouldn't read into how he lists the pairings or lines.

Let's see some games and TOI before we worry about that.

Do you think that McQuaid is coming out of the playing line-up unless there is an injury?

mcquaid is penciled in as the top pairing right D. that's absurd for a rebuilding team. DeAngelo clearly is not a favorite for this organization.

Yes I agree it`s always a high risk in a long term contract - and just luck that Zucc still playing for instant after his injury, but sometimes a high profile defenders get such a contract like Brady Skjei, but it`s not without risk involved at all.

I'm very curious to see the D usage after 10 games. Ice time and who actually dresses. It shouldn't be but ADA in the lineup with come at Pionk's expense. Some of the concern is real. I don't think McQuaid will be healthy scratched at all.

Maybe they move him next TDL - I`ve consider that option for a while now and speculated about it, and he don`t fit well with his skillset.

So this " rebuilding" team is once again playing useless vets over the young guys with potential. Nothings changed I see.

Yes, I do until I see any evidence to the contrary.

Him starting the season playing above the 3rd pair, paired with Skjei, is not sort of evidence to the contrary?

That town hall where all of Sather, Gorton, and Quinn could barely contain their enthusiasm towards McQuaid, without any substantial mention of DeAngelo is not a glimpse into how they view them?
