different circumstances
It's different because this season the expectations are different. But the decisions made on the young guys are the same. It's all in their best interest.

I think we are going to see Lias, Chytl, Howden, Hajek and others shuttle back and forth throughout the season. Periodic evaluations.

I can't decide who I hate more. McQuaid or McLeod.
McQuaid.

With McLeod in the lineup our 4th line gets worse but also fewer minutes. The net effect is negative but not significantly so.

Since McQuaid apparently took DeAngelo's spot we've essentially removed a pairing that would have had ~52% possession for ~35% of the 5v5 TOI and replaced it with one which will have ~46% possession (pretty conservative numbers, I think the difference is likely bigger). Add on that Skjei's reputation will tumble and that DeAngelo won't get a chance to develop his game and you've got a significantly worse net impact on the team.

E: I obviously don't hate either player, but I don't like how their presence on our roster has affected our coach's lineup decisions.

Anytime I see Sather interviewed I remember he’s a lot more together and likeable than expected. I think it every time. ‘He appears to be a gentleman’. I like him helming this organization.

Can we let McQuaid play a regular season game before writing him off. My god. Some of you are just intolerable. I mean wouldnt it make sense for him to play and do well so we can get a good ROI at the deadline.
Whatever we paid for him is a sunk cost at this point. I don't think letting him play up his value is beneficial if it comes at the expense of DeAngelo/Pionk getting playing time to develop their game. It's one thing if he came in after one of the two (or both) showed themselves clearly unable to handle NHL minutes, but considering that both of them significantly outperformed him in pre-season that is not the case yet - let them play themselves out of the lineup.

McQuaid was a nice move as depth guy/lockerroom guy but he should not be playing over a 22 year old former first round pick who was probably the best dman in camp. That flies in the face of a rebuild/rebuild letter.

I don't think you are considering the probable ideal future roster iterations where all the players will be tougher and have more character because of McQuaid playing this season.

I think ADA will be given plenty of games to show he belongs to stay. The only way he doesnt is if he falls on his face. I see a rotation of mainly McQuaid-Pionk at 35%-65% starts respectively, with some games where ADA is rested

Some say JG is a master of using a bunch of words to say nothing but I think he says more than he actually wants to.

Things that he basically said during this spot:

They’re prepared to sell at the deadline again. They want more young assets. You’re not going to get those assets by holding onto what you already have/ extending aging players.

They’re in wait and see mode with Hayes. Moving him would have less to do with him and more to do with how those under perform+ future cap implications.

Which leads right into UFA for next offseason. They’re going to go HAM after Panarin.

Well that’s the second part of it. When he does get his chance he’s going to have to force the team to keep him in and that doesn’t mean 0pts and -1 with some great looking moves. He’s a small offensive dman. If he’s not Scoring there’s not a reason for him to be in the league.

Sather’s little quip about Hayes being in a position to make even more money next offseason than Gorton was ready to pay him this offseason is just horrid cap management.

They’re banking on him maximizing his value as a rental and relying on one of the kids to be ready to take his spot by February. It’s a really bad decision when our C corps is as raw as it as and we only have one legit NHL C, who just happens to have concussion issues.

I’ve been a fan of Gorton’s moves from last season, but this one still bothers me a lot. I’d be more comfortable if we had the wings to help carry the younger Cs, but we don’t.

This isn’t even a rebuild issue either for me. Go ahead and try to get Hughes, Turcotte, or Dach- I’d love to see them in Rangers sweaters. It’s poor insulation for younger prospects on a team that already doesn’t have depth. You need contingency plans, and we don’t have any at C right now.

exactly. that comment is just dumb and smacks of arrogance and sounds like someone disconnected from reality.

this hayes thing has been a mess since the get go.

this is a kid who will go to a contender and plug right into a 2/3 c spot and excel.

and that will make me ill.

Did they actually say this? I have no desire to watch the video, but christ

What a bunch of f***ing goofs

I'm sure Hayes, who wants to be here long term, loved hearing that

He did, slats was full of the jokes last night.

I’d recommend a watch though. I too though it was going to be mindless nonsense filled with the same pre season optimistic bull shit you hear everywhere but there were some pretty good nuggets in there.

“There were times I took one more step forward than I probably should have in trying to be aggressive, those changes weren’t natural. That took me out of my comfort zone,” said Lundqvist. “I probably tried to do too much. By doing that, I kind of lost my game plan.

“I need to play to my strengths. Looking at it over the summer and talking about it with [goaltending coach] Benny [Allaire], I’ve used this training camp to go back to my roots by being patient, playing deep in my net. It’s what I trust. It’s my game. It’s who I always was as a goalie."

I'm reading this article, and I am no goalie, but it sounds like Henrik is going back to relying on his reflexes and athleticism to make saves?

Which seems like it could go poorly

I hope Lundqvist will be patient for once and not come out and blame rookies for his own mistakes (as he did with Skjei in the past).
