Shatty was on 40+ point pace.

I don't think it's very realistic to throw "point pace" in there.

He scored 23 points in 46 games but a -14 is horrific and that's only going to be magnified x10 while he's trying to defend against the top lines in the league.

No PK ability to speak of.

Contact's a joke..

Using +/- pretty much invalidates your post.

Oh look +/-.

I'll pretend I never replied.

I know you won't reply, especially if I were to post in game plays from him last year.

Why ignore the rest of the post?

He can't PK.

Maloney reported that he showed up to camp out of shape fresh of a fat new contract that I highly doubt any other team would've paid.

Why ignore that it was another stupid signing?

Not all defensman need to be PK beasts. Some run power plays and drive plays out of the back end.

Dude, no offence to you but that's not really the point either.

Ever hockey analyst out there has him on the top pairing this year and only being able to play on one side of the ice while forced into that position is going to be a disaster.

It's kinda hard to blame the actual player though when there are no other options available at your disposal.

Oh the guy with the torn meniscus? Have you ever torn your knee, let alone played hockey - for several months?

Why ignore that you’re another stupid poster?

You think he would've gotten hurt had he shown up to camp in shape brainiac?

And yes, I've most likely been playing for longer than you've been alive. And yes, I have injured both knees and a whole lot worse zippy..

Or maybe he was out of shape because he couldn't train properly because his knee was bothering him in the camp.

Teams don't just go out signing players to $6.6m contacts without team Dr's making sure the player is healthy.

The player, as a professional athlete, needs to show up on game day in shape.

Other than that, you have to look at the history of a player..Shattenkirk, Smith, Zib..None of these guys have ever done anything noteworthy and now they're being asked to play in positions way over their heads.

Why are these red flags so invisible to some people?

Common sense ffs..

We signed him way before the camp.

Not only are you wrong, but other teams were willing to pay him more money for a longer term than we were offering.

swing and a miss

But, but..He killed it on EA NHL12 so it must be true

You guys are nuts lol

I've had the same exact injury in my left knee for the past 6 years. I haven't gotten surgery on it yet, and I still play hockey once or twice a week, but can't imagine being a pro who needs to train or be on the ice almost every day.

Hockey itself doesn't really seem to aggravate it all that much, but I don't play beer league more than twice in any given week. I don't know how it would hold up to 3-4 games a week, every week. It does, however, get very aggravated when I go to the gym too much, and I go far less than an athlete would. I always feel the instability in my knee, even if I'm not in pain. When pain does present, most of the time it's actually in my quad, right above the inside of the knee. My theory being that that muscle works harder to stabilize the knee, and thus gets strained much easier.

I guess my point is that I wouldn't judge Shattenkirk too harshly. I understand from personal experience why he played for as long as he did last season. A torn meniscus isn't a crippling injury. But, I could definitely see it having an impact on performance. I don't get anywhere near the burst out of my injured leg that I do my good one. It's fine for my beer league, but it probably makes a huge difference for Shattenkirk, especially when he's never been the most fleet-of-foot to begin with.

To put this in perspective for you, Marc fkn Staal scored just 5 points less @ 5v5 but let's make him our #1C :sarcasm:

Poor Connor McDavid

The team didn’t fill the vacant spot left by Patrick Maroon leaving Milan Lucic as the best natural option, a sad state of affairs considering the expectations and high cost of acquisition (read: losing 2017-18 Hart trophy winner, Taylor Hall) when he was signed. At this point, my model considers him to have third line value. That should come as no surprise considering his scoring rate of 1.25 points-per-60 over the last two seasons (which is dangerously close to fourth-line territory), his recent decline toward average with regards to his shot impacts, and how little he adds to the power play. That he only managed all that while playing 40 per cent of his minutes with McDavid (his highest percentage with any player) is deeply concerning for a player at age 30 who is signed for five more seasons at $6 million a season. He’s also one of the least disciplined players in the league which doesn’t help matters either and his lack of foot speed will likely only make that problem worse as he ages.

2018-19 NHL Season Preview: Edmonton Oilers

That team is terrible. They have an elite super star franchise center. Another top level center. That's it. Bad contracts. The D is terrible. Cap problems. Awful contracts.

The Rangers need to avoid making the same mistakes with handing out bad contracts.
