I personally find hockey to be the most exciting sport on the planet.

that is acting and staged, but players like I listed truly got under other players' skins.

Holland and Nieves have no business in the NHL.
Howden is a big giant question mark.
Vesey, while I think that's where he probably belongs, he's still just meh.
Love Fast.

No, that doesn't even remotely do it for me..

Agreed on Holland, but what is your beef with Nieves, he is perfect as a 4th line center.

Nieves, while he has some speed and agility, he's got zero hockey IQ and no shot skills.

He might've been a decent Boyle lite replacement at the time but in today's game he's not going to impact anything IMO..

I got news for you'll..If Shattenkirk is put into the position of having to defend against the top lines of the league, there's no way in hell he's scoring 50 points.

Most of his points will come on the PP..

This is what he's always been though? He's always been an elite PP player.

In 425 games with STL, he had:

32 goals, 97 assists on the PP
27 goals, 99 assists at even strength

He was used on the top pairing for years in STL. So that is exactly what he's been? I'm confused by what people think he is?

He hasn't played on a competent top pair in e'ons.
What are YOU expecting out of him for nearly $7m a year?
I'm sure whatever it is, you're going to end up being seriously disappointed..

I'm expecting an elite PP player who plays nearly all PPs, and puts up tons of points. At EV, I don't expect EK numbers. I also don't expect him to be Matt Niskanen on defense. Because he's never been, and I never expected it when we signed him.

What does it matter now? We suck and over the length of his contract, the rest of the D will probably be filled in with plenty of ELCs. At least you'd hope, cause we have tons of prospects.

It's not his fault they have 10m sunk into Staal & Smith. He didn't make those deals.

Him and Smith are the epitome of why we suck.
I can add a few other players and a GM to the list as well but I'll save it.
I'll give Staal a pass considering his body of work and the fact that he can at least defend..

He played 46 games in his career for the Rangers. He is the absolute last person to blame for the state of this franchise.

I don't even disagree with you on what Shatty is. People who know what he is are not going to be disappointed.

People who think he should be a #1 "shutdown" Dman bc thats what we signed him for and that's what his pay grade demands are out to lunch.

I also don't see how we suck or that Smith is to blame for it. Staal shouldn't get a pass, he needs to start playing really well or he will get scratched most of the season if he refuses to waive his ridiculous clauses.

Holland has experience as 3C and did fine in his short stint as 4C. He’s good insurance. Nieves isn’t necessarily better.

I completely disagree. Nieves out produced Holland, outhit Holland, he is a better NHLer than Holland. Also Holland was -10 while Nieves was +6. Holland will help Wolfpack make the playoffs finally he is a point per game player in AHL, be he has clearly shown he is not an NHL player.

Holland put up 25 or more points in two separate seasons as a 3C in Toronto, and has six seasons of at least 20 NHL GP with four separate organizations. I like Nieves, and I believe he could start the season on the roster, but he hasn’t shown yet what Holland has accomplished.

Holland is a similar player to Brett Howden, but has struggled to translate his game to the NHL. They're similarly sized (6'2, 190-200 lbs) and put up remarkably similar numbers in the OHL (D: ~1.0 PPG, D+1: ~1.3, D+2: ~1.3-1.4). Holland then went on to become an almost PPG player in the AHL, but has failed to become an NHL regular so far.

I think Holland is a better player than Nieves, but if their NHL impacts are similar enough there is a point to be made that Holland could be of more use as a legit AHL 1C to help develop our prospects in Hartford.

Dom Luszczyszyn of The Athletic is previewing by reverse order

31-Van
30-Ottawa
29-Detroit
28-Rangers
27-Montreal
26-Islanders

He picked the Devils at #25.

Larry Brooks will be miserable having to write about three bad hockey teams. Poor Brooksie.

Marc Staal. Replacement level.

I don't agree with a lot of his chart. Namestnikov making a bigger impact than Hayes? No impact from Chytil and Andersson. He probably also has Zuccarello a little low.
