Roster Building Thread - Part VIII (2023-24 season)

he has a massive wind up. His doesn't locate the puck. imo shot totals isn't an indicator for either or. They force feed him. Maybe my mind is failing me... when was the last time he hit a corner with a 1T?

Is it possible that elite playmakers like Panarin and Fox are setting the play up for him? He can beat the goalie if he hasn't gotten across yet but he doesn't label corners or beat a squared up goalie imo

His wrist shot on the other hand has been drastically under utilized..

This is the same argument that was used against Ovechkin by Crosby stans.

"He only scores so much because they force the puck to him and he shoots all the time."

Yeah no shit, because it f***ing works. As if anyone is able to score even with the puck being forced to them lol.

The massive wind up doesn't mean that its a slow release, he's loaded before the puck gets to him (as is the case with one timers.) Again, if this were an issue, his shots would be getting blocked on the regular. If his shots were getting blocked on the regular, his shot totals would be much lower. If his release were slow, he wouldn't be getting his shot off before a goalie could get over either so you're kind of contradicting yourself there.

Also who would you consider to have an elite 1T?

I'd say that Stamkos does right? Mika shoots harder than he does from a standstill.

I'm asking you what is good about his onetime shot. It is an evaluation. I think he does everything below-average to average. You can disagree. He does have PPGs. I don't think it's a testament to how 'great' his onetimer is.

I just told you

There's plenty to critique about Zibanejad but I don't understand why you are attacking unquestionably the best part of his game. Doesn't make sense bro.
He can score goals with it and he will score with it. I don't think it should be the main attraction. If the play is setup to where he can get the puck on net before the goalie gets across, it works. Still think his one time shot is mid. I don't get the outrage.

elite? Tage and Pettersson.

watch their shots and it should be evident there's levels. IMO Fox and Panarin help him greatly

I can't wait for the

'hUr dUr mIKa nO oNe TiMe' when he scores. will be fun.

still doesn't change the fact he has a mid one-timer.

bern has been busy past few months and still not fully clear for ‘nother coupla wks min. Happily can do hockey hookey for a bit...

When last here in prior RoBu thread, I lamented how Rs don’t listen to bern, and we suffer. Some then said I have no such track record. I am not going to go on an extensive rant about this. However, I am entitled as each of us is defend any such adverse statement. Since I have a brief moment, I will just say they are wrong, and history confirms this.

I said generally, acquire best possible younger talent, provide mins, develop, minimize reliance on vets who, by virtue of seniority, typically cost more = more difficult cap mgmt. I believe this has been proven to be preferable to the win now stupidity of not only relying vice versa on vets over youth, but also over the iodiocy of dealing draft picks for rentals, particularly those who, because of cap, we cannot extend. We should consider ourselves fortunate that b’c we missed the POs this yr, we did not have to fork over our first as part of the Kane overpayment.

I have also had specific positions on particular players or trades that by and large are arguably proven more correct than not over the long run. Time will not permit detailing that now, but perhaps later a snapshot or 2 can verify.

This is not to say I don’t want any disagreement from anybody. Not only does that come with the territory, everyone should, like bern, champion a competition of ideas.

And I realize I have my advocates as well as my detractrors here. Peace to you all, but going forward it would be, I propose to the board, of benefit to us all to be unreserved in overall opinion, but more reserved on criticism when not substantiated by merit.

Now, on to current status and things we have to consider about how best improve our beloved Rangers...

LaF
I said he is BARELY at par on his skating, but that may be [just] enuf for now.
I said keep kid line together and give max mins as 1st line = helps them grow, helps rest Zib + Kreid slightly, = fresher for POs.

Instead of listening, mgmt is trying LaF elsewhere.
This is stupid.
Chytil + KK are better athletes, clear their skating can keep up.
LaF needs to continue to improve his skating.
He doesn't recognize plays as well as desired, EXCEPT on kid line.
Lack of recognition + slow skating reaction = bad combo
kid line chemistry is only hope at this point.

DO IT.

We should have no sacred cows, and LaF is expendable at right price.
He can still turn the corner IF they listen to me, but not if there is continued desperation hit and miss which usually = more miss
But we should not shortchange ourselves by diminishing, rather than improving his value in advance of sale.

The NHL doesn’t release the waivers list to the media. The reporters get the list from someone who gets the list. Team executives. Chris Johnston was discussing this topic on his pod from yesterday.

Well deserved. If Cuylle can chip in 10-12 goals and provide energy that's a great first season.

I hope he starts in the top 9, but it's not a necessity.

Still some hope that the Derek Stepan trade tree has something of value left in it.

When TNT was talking about Cuylle last night, of course they brought up the Tom Wilson comparisons because of course. After my eyes unrolled from the back of my head, they started talking about the benefit of Laviolette having coached Wilson and being able to show areas of Wilson’s game that Cuylle can bring into his. If that is actually something that is happening I would be pretty stoked.

I hope they can deal him for a pick and have whoever as 7D.
please don't rush it, he's gonna get his games
NYR fans been spoiled, last few years, by how healthy team has been, compared to much of the league

Preseason over (Well for the Rangers), time to focus on the regular season. I’m not going to jump to conclusion..

Giving the team about 20 or so games in to adjust to Lav’s system before making a fair assessment of the season to date.
