I could get behind an addition that pushes Cuylle to the 4th line to start the playoffs.

Cuylle-_____-Vesey

Go get a forward who plays with pace and some physical play that has some size and that’s the group.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Wheeler
Panarin-Trochek-Lafreniere
______-Chytil-Kakko
Cuylle-Goodrow-Vesey
Pitlick
Bonino

Although I could be convinced to push Cuylle up and bring up Edstrom for 10 games to see what’s there.
________ = Novak from Preds (800k) can play C in case Chytil has an issue

Others: Duclair, T Johnson, Dickinson, prob 6 others who could make sense. A couple of them could feasibly push Wheeler down if need be

I think you need to stop taking out Bonino. You obviously don't like him but the organization has shown absolutely zero interest in demoting him in anyway. Whether or not he should be is rather besides the point.

To recap:

1. Chytil got injured and Bonino has been the one to move to the 3C spot for every single game
2. He leads all forwards on the team in PK ice time per game.
3. He leads all forwards on the team in TOI/Game with the empty net

Does that look like a player the team has any interest in taking out of the lineup? Making moves that remove him is a fantasy. It's inevitable that he will be in the lineup so if you're looking to make a playoff roster you should certainly be listing him.

Pitlick and Brodzinski will be out of the lineup when/if Kakko/Chytil comes back. Neither has any significant special team or late game role. Brodinzski is "PP2" but he likely wouldn't be with the other two back. I doubt they make any move for a forward without sending someone back off the roster so whoever that is will be out. In fact, I think Laviolette would likely remove Goodrow before Bonino just based on how they have been used but it is close.

I tend to doubt they make much moves, if any. They don't have the space to do it and most of the guys that you would get for a mid round pic will make no tangible difference.

Good, maybe we'll take out Goodrow instead.

Novak isn't old and the Predators really don't have a good reason to move him. That would be a tough ask.

I see no reason to swap Wheeler and Vesey when both their current lines are playing well

Call me an anarchist, but I'd like to see Vesey playing with Z. Even though Z can be snakebit at times, I feel that his speed is underutilized. Wheeler is Wheeler and is only there to finish plays they give him. Kreider can skate, but as soon as the puck touches his stick for anything other than a deflection he becomes stonehands Kreider. I think Vesey might give Z some better options up front since he's the playmaker on that line. Worth a try if you ask me.

Didn't Goodrow get the first shot at 3C after the Chytil injury? I remember him playing a game there before Bonino was moved up.

Getting leapfrogged by an older guy making less than a quarter your salary… you'd think that Goodrow would have enough sense to not block a trade, if any team was willing to play him above the 4th line.

I'm not saying we can not try it but there are pluses and minuses to your moving Vesey to that line. Wheeler is actually a lot better passer and has better vision than Vesey. Jimmy does bring some positives as well but I would have to see them play together to judge them.

Goodrow's NMC is limited -- there are only 15 teams he can't be traded to...that leaves 16 teams Rangers can swing a deal with and he will have no say.

Cuylle-Chytil-Kakko can’t possibly be worse.

If Chytil is no closer by the deadline we probably should look to add a center.

His NTC- yes. But exactly how many teams have the cap space, want a player like Goodrow, and he’d still be willing to go to? It will still be threading a needle.

Thats the "Tampa Trade" though. Him and Zetterlund are the guys Tampa would "overpay" for and roll the dice on. Zetterlund, the Rangers do not really need unless Wheeler and/or Kakko can't go. Novak really sticks out as a player who helps. Even if its likely a tough addition (and the Predators may not even be selling) there are so few players that make sense for the Rangers at a cap hit that can be accommodated, that you kind of need to press the issue to bring them in if the team is serious about contended. Novak really sticks out though as a guy that would help

It’s worth repeating though that Bonino should be scratched. A lot of people on here actually think he isn’t a worthless bum

Novak is so good there’s no way they’d get him. Way too skilled to be a Drury target. I could see him going after someone much stinkier and veteran like Monahan

It's not worth repeating because it's not going to happen. If you want to live in an idealistic fantasyland go ahead and consider it. If you want to figure out how to improve the team and you're not looking at what the organization thinks of a player based on what they've shown us so far you're just being lazy.

Before the season even started people had this idea that Bonino was going to be the 13th forward and a part time player. That was obviously total nonsense. He's never been a part time player in his entire career and had played a significant role under this exact same coach in years prior. Lo and behold he's played every game (when healthy) and was the guy elevated when someone was out and is used in a key defensive role. He's not coming out of the lineup barring injury. It really doesn't matter whether you think that is a right or wrong decision. You have to work around constraints.

I'm not saying don't do it, but the pricetag will be big and the name "Tommy Novak" doesn't immediately satisfy the pricetag on paper. It doesn't feel big enough for the Rangers to realistically do it.

Thank you. I know this is the roster thread but fans constantly posting unrealistic trades or team moves doesn’t help the conversation.

anarchist. Who would be your second choice for that spot?

lol what? Were you under the impression that I thought the team is basing their lineup decisions on my HFBoards posts?

I was under the impression you want to improve the team by the deadline. In order to do so you should likely consider what is likely and what isn’t. The team demoting their most trusted pk’er/late game defensive player is not likely. So maybe you should seek to improve other spots with the limited cap spaces and resources available.

Posting pointless scenarios serves no purpose. Most likely what will happen is they will trade a mid-late round pick for a 7th defenseman and maybe one for a depth forward that is an upgrade on brodzinski/pitlick. How about identifying which cheap players would fill those roles?

Dude…nothing anyone talks about on here serves any purpose. How does pulling random trade proposals out of your ass crack serve more of a purpose than suggesting the team bench their biggest liability which could at least conceivably happen

It won’t conceivably happen. That’s the point. You’re using your preconceived bias against Bonino and likely an extreme misspplication of “advanced” stats and totally neglecting all context.

This is a roster building thread. No restrictions - any idea is welcomed and valid.
