No, not bingo. We already know that the Fox-Miller pair has only been used as an emergency pair while trailing in games, that’s not some revelation that’s just been illuminated. They’ve been so good in those minutes that there is no reason to not see if they can’t come close to replicating that in all situations. Fox-Gus was also insane in the game they played together this year. There’s a pretty decent amount of evidence that suggests Fox is much better with a D partner who knows what the puck is for

Problem has been and always will be that at some point him and his partner have to play defense. After all, they are defenseman. Lindgren has missed a huge amount of time over the past 3,4 years and not 1 coach has decided to put Fox and Miller together. Maybe Quinn was an idiot. Maybe Gallant too. But now Lavi too. Why does everyone on this board think they are smarter than every coach we have had?

The other, major problem with putting Miller with Fox, is who plays with Trouba?
With Fox and Miller separated, we have one of them on the ice for 45 minutes. We shelter the 3rd pair for 15 minutes. You put Fox and Miller together, first you are wasting Miller's offensive ability and 2nd, there 35 minutes from some not so great possible pairings. We don't have the depth on D for that. The coaches have decided that Fox is good enough to allow a no talent grinder play 1st pair minutes. That allows Miller to play on the 1B pair

It’s not wasting Millers offensive ability to put him with Fox who will get him way more opportunities to rush the puck up the ice and play in the offensive zone. You’re assuming that NYR will get worse results with someone else paired with Trouba but they’ve never even tried anything else. Miller-Trouba has never controlled play in a way that warrants not experimenting with other options.

There's only 1 puck. There's only so many opportunities to carry the puck. Miller will get less chances to make his long end to end rushes with Fox

That’s not necessarily true at all, it’s possible a lot of Troubas outlet passes to the other team are swapped for Fox plays where he freezes F1+F2 and finds Miller to skate it out with speed. “There’s only one puck” yet Laf is playing infinitely better with Panarin who handles the puck a ton. Playing with better players has a good chance to get you more touches and higher quality touches

Let's agree to disagree. Been having this same argument for 3,4 years. Will say one last thing, lol. We probably will never know because no coach has ever done it.

In what way is criticizing a singular decision/strategy insinuating that you’re smarter than the coach? Obviously we’ve seen coaches make dumb decisions and management make dumb moves before, they can’t bat 1.000. Tired of this shit bootlicker logic.

3 bleeping coaches. Maybe there's something we aren't privy to that could explain why they don't do it.

I'm actually arguing why Fox isn't with Miller. 3 Ranger coaches could have done that and refuse to.
Alot of it is the easy familiarity that they have.
Theres a lot to say for having played together for something like 7 years together.
Theres knowing exactly where your partner is which lets you play more aggressively.

People criticize a bunch of things about Drury, but I think he is one of the best GMs in the NHL. Dude just straight knows puck. He got good dudes on good league minimum contracts (league min contracts for the 4th line is what was begged for damn years here) in Vesey and Pitlick. The Hartford team is in the best shape it has literally ever been. And even his contract have been pretty damn good. All of Fox, Trocheck, and Kreider are looking like very good value deals for literally top end contender level players.

And for as much as so many of us shit on the Lav hire, he has been the absolute right hire thus far.

Agreed. Goodrow deal is an overpay, but I think people make too much out of it. Trouba cost what Troubas cost. I’m glad we have have him. No more dead money on the ledger, either. Right?

Note, I call an inexpensive contract ‘good’ in protest. I think these guys all deserve to get as much money as they can and I hate the NHL’s salary cap.

Drury has as much to do with Trouba as he does with Mayfield.

Sometimes these things are kept in house forever. Sometimes they leak out because there are probably 30 people that know what is going on.

Decades ago a popular player was sent down to the AHL for much of the season. Nobody could understand it at the time. In fact the media reported a bogus reason but a family friend that worked in MSG told my dad why. I have never said who it was or why.
Gotta imagine this was Pierre LaRouche...
