After watching todays game it’s blatantly obvious that we need another RW.

Krieder and zib have been atrocious 5 on 5 this season. I’d hope we go back to tro between panarin and laf tomorrow.

This is a Stanley cup contender right now, we need to add a dynamic player to take wheelers spot.

Kreider-zib-new RW1
Panarin-tro-laf
Cuylle-chytil-kakko

The 4th line can be a combo of bonino/vesey/goodrow/wheeler/pitlick/brodz

Let’s say that Kakko doesn’t get traded.

Let’s say he misses most of the season with the injury but comes back for like final 10 games and playoffs.

What kind of contract is he actually looking at? Chytil deal? Less? 1 year deal? If he takes 1 year does he go to UFA or is he still RFA?

Mangiapane would be a great add and brings a speedy 2 way game but that 5.8 cap hit this year and next is too high I think.

Would guess he just files for arbitration, and signs a 1 year deal. He would have 1 more year left as an RFA after he signs a 1 year contract this summer.

I think the rangers may try and do a short term deal like 4 years.
Gets them out of cap trouble, and keeps an important asset.

I’m not a Brodzinski guy but it’s comforting when you can slot in the AHL scoring leader and captain in a pinch. He’s a trustworthy player and great organization guy
How does he keep getting through waivers is really my question. Hes up here until either kakko is back or a trade is made imo

The obvious answers are pavel buchnevich and frankie vatrano. Both have worked with kreider and mika. Both we need to be had at 50% retained though and thats the tough ask/what drives up the price. Would probably have to move something like 2024 1st, Zac Jones and maybe a guy like Edstrom too

Seems like Brodz is sticking around for a while anyways, and we've accepted he's claim safe, but is there any history of an AHL captain getting claimed on waivers? Feels like a bit of faux pas

More than a RW we need a carry the mail guy imo. A guy who can bring it blue line to blue line often when the passing is not open.

Drury isn’t making any trades before he sees what Othmann can do. Putting his call up Over/Under at Jan. 4th against Chicago

Oh and by the way, if Tampa keeps sucking and the contract impasse continues, Stamkos is the answer to our RW issues.

We cant afford stamkos unless Chytil is done for the year or we move salary out in that same deal / or another deal.

If we have a need for a cookie cutter 5 on 5 winger why are we targeting the luxury model with all the amenities that we won’t use and that will cost a fortune and probably won’t assimilate very quickly since he’s been with one organization his whole career and will be gone within a blink of an eye.

Which other players around the league who are leading their team in +/- by a decent margin are holding their teams back or are Mika and Kreider the only ones?

wait we're back to using +/- as a metric again?
He's right though. All this board focuses on is the 5v5 scoring which has been better of late. They don't give up much 5v5 and they do a great job on the PP and PK. You wouldn't know by reading this board that Mika does have 17 points and Kreider has 21 including 14 goals. They get too much shit IMO.

Why does the metric of being one of the last 3 people to touch the puck before it goes in the net matter but the differential of how many goals are scored when you are on the ice not matter? If it helps we can use GF%.

this board tends to lean into the extremes regardless of the subject, and heavily skewed towards the negative narratives. the team is 17-4-1, they're going to lay an egg some nights and not all nights they find a way to win are going to be pretty ones. there's a fine line between obsessing over micro issues with the record they currently have, and overlooking weaknesses that can be detrimentally exposed on a longer horizon. the 5x5 scoring i don't get too caught up in - they aren't terribly efficient, but they've done enough to put themselves in this position. there's room and potential for growth in generating more/better chances.

the real area of concern they absolutely need to clean up is their defensive awareness, especially late in games holding a 1 goal lead. they have to become a team more capable regularly of possessing the puck late, essentially running out the clock, rather than hanging on for dear life in almost every single win. the 5x5 defense with a lead late is a lot more concerning to me than anything to do with offense. today they weren't at their best...whatever...it happens. but the amount of times they left a guy WIDE open on the backside and allowed a pass to get across to them which left a 1 on 1 down low with igor was egregious. they regularly get too many guys caught below the puck with no real reason for that to even be conscionable late in games with a lead that hand teams odd man rushes. that stuff simply cannot be happening regularly in the spring.

one other kinda random thing, which may or may not be statistically material but stands out as surprising, is that for the record they have they've had so few easy wins. there's something to be said for what a team that can will itself to win is made of, and that's a great thing. at the same time, to see a team at 17-4-1 that almost never wins convincingly strikes me as odd. it might not hold any significance, but something about an extremely dominant record from a team that almost never displays the ability to dominate a given opponent stands out as something that doesn't add up. maybe they have a subconscious masochistic element to them, maybe they get bored easily, maybe they need more time to really lock in. at the same time, it does make me wonder if they do need a few upgrades to have the talent level needed to allow that will to win to have a chance when the weather gets warm.
