There are an awful lot of stops between where they are now and being forced to trade a 22 year old coming off a 20 goal 1st season who at most will command 2.5% of the cap because they can't fit him.

They can just hold him to his QO which has been on the table the whole time they were having cap problems. They would hardly be the first team to do so.
They rescinded the QO.

Maybe they rescinded an actual offer and not the qo.
He wants 2/5, they want something more advantageous to them so they probably rescinded 3/5.5 or something.

Regardless, for someone like him in his spot where Ottawa can't take back any money, a team like Arizona with 13 picks in the first 2 rounds the next 3 years is a lot more sensible of a fit.

Let us reflect too that Ottawa is 8-10, got universal applause for locking up their young stars, has won several offseasons in a row... and is somehow brutally capped out with a shit pipeline (actual apocolypse of busts on defense).

As it looks like the board is split 50/50 on Kakko (yes, I know he's injured) dealing him is most likely out of the question until the deadline (possibly) what about calling up Ottawa and trying to do a deal around:

Kakko for Pinto.

2 young players both drafted in the first round (1 at the top and 1 at the bottom) both missing a large portion of the season (1 due to injury and 1 due to well kind of being stupid).

Salaries should be close, but I would look to sign Pinto to a long-term deal. Rumor had it around 4 years at approx. 3 million.

Pinto put up good numbers last year and will only get better and most importantly solves our need for a center.

Maybe Ottawa wants more but they don't have the cap room as they would have had to move someone to sign Pinto if he wasn't suspended.

Still allows Drury to make some other moves at the deadline and Pinto's youth can be added to the core.

Your bar for a great hockey player is ridiculously low then. Most fans don't want a guy who has 1 point playing top line minutes. How can you be that terrible to not luck into more than 1 point.
And your bar for a great hockey player needing points to justify their position is flawed. Lindgren typically puts up 15-20 points a season, that's simply not a part of his game - but I'm sure you already knew that lol

He wouldn't be on the top pairing for years with Fox if he was AS bad and a liability as you've claimed he supposedly is.

Points schmoints and stop line numbering, especially for D pairs.

Nemeth.. a 6'3" dman... Yes very Drury.
Reaves... LOL yes.
Kane... Nope... His hand was forced.

Drury likes his players to have an aggressive/physical edge... Or at least seem to.
This laughable. The fact anyone could think Jim Dolan forced Drury’s hand to jeopardize the team during a playoff race and not now when he could’ve be signed for peanuts now is ridiculous.

not really. Dolan is a moron that knows nothing about hockey. perhaps he thought Kane was still good and now that he's seen him play, correctly realizes that he sucks.

also, did anyone hear Kane's interview on TNT before the game Wednesday? he said he couldn't move laterally or turn like he wanted to because of the hip. he basically couldn't skate. it's absolutely f***ing hilarious that we thought that was a good idea. it was a known thing that he had a bad hip. we should all really hope it wasn't Drury's call.

Or, maybe the reality, he doesn’t involve himself as much as the clowns on this board believe.
So here’s the thing, I don’t think Dolan involves himself as much as people think, but the scrambling that was required, the order that the moves happen in, they make me assume it was a last minute change.

that doesn’t mean Dolan worked the trade himself ala steinbrenner in the 90s.
But drury has shown a good knowledge of how to work the cap, and the tarasenko trade fit the rangers. That move seemed the end of the deadline.
Then Kane says that thing, and then the rangers move vk for peanuts (which he deserved) and played short handed for multiple games.
That seemed unplanned and outside of the norm we’ve seen for drury

And yet he still had some offensive production & they didnt give up much for him.

I will also die on the hill that this team at minimum makes it to the ECF if Lavy is the coach last year, probably the SCF. And then the vitriol might not be so excessive towards Kane.

We shall see how he does in Detroit. Still clear as day we need a top 6 RW and we will now pay assets to address.

Meanwhile, TB is getting pumped right now. Stamkos?

If Lavy was coaching last year, there would have been no need to bring Kane in.
