Trocheck signing got killed from day 1. It's too long! Copp is better! Trocheck is the best faceoff man in hockey, plays PP1, has skill, PK. He does it all. Every single line he's on is solid. Pacing for close to 70 points. The fact that he is signed for $5.6M is crazy. A guy like that should be getting around $7M.
yep! no complaints here when we signed him He is better player than Copp and Strome and forget about the numbers it's the way he plays the game too. Does so many little things and doesn't shy away from the physical part of the game.

Some interesting names on here.

Duclair
Maroon
Barabanov
Frost

are some guys they should check out
I don't think any of these make us better. Maroon can't skate and would tie a whole line down. Barbanov and Duke are LWers. That's Cuylle's spot.

Frost on the cheap is intriguing, but where would we play him unless Goodrow gets moved?

Chytil in for Brod when healthy. This is the way.
Not bad but I fear that 4th line will go from very good to barely average without Vesey.

100% agree with this statement. Having guys like this down the middle is how you win games and in the playoffs. If you look at the kings right now they are doing just that Kopy, PLD and Danault down the middle out match most teams on a nightly basis. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the team in the finals at the end of the year. Its also why I want the Rangers to go out and trade for another defensively sound center that can score points like Tro (Lindholm). If we can do that and sign-up long term Rangers are the team to beat in the league for the next few years.

In all the talk about Perry, I saw a comment on Ian Cole. I don't know how I missed all this.

NHL investigating Lightning's Ian Cole amid sexual assault allegations

BREAKING -Reporters Wedding Canceled After Caught Cheating With Hurricanes Player

How is Ian Cole still playing after two scandals in two consecutive seasons in two different cities?
There was one scandal, not two & it all hinged on a baseless accusation that went viral because of a random tweet by an anonymous accuser who literally vanished. The NHL placed Cole on leave, investigated, urged the accuser to contact them & finally had to close the investigation when absolutely zero credible evidence was found. Cole may be a POS as a player, but he didn't deserve to have his name dragged through the mud. For all we know it could've been Abby Labar's ex-fiance who was just looking to get even. She was not innocent in the matter & guess what, pro athletes cheat on their wives all the time. I'm willing to bet most have permission.

This team is going to trade for Tarasenko again, just watch. Right, wrong, or indifferent they will.

Unless another unexpected name(a) populates that is my guess.

Also it will be painful watching us fork over another 1st round, even if with conditions attached, to fill that 1RW hole.

It's almost as if the RWs haven't been the problem there.

What are the constants?
Wheeler hasn’t been a problem? I like Wheeler and think he has a spot/role on this team but not on that line. Can’t skate well and he has been slow in handling pucks.

Yes I think Kakko should have been given a longer leash, but he also wasn’t some massive net positive. And Yes i think Kreider-Zib have been a part of the issue. Kreider should be on the 3rd line, but at the same time Cuylle is not the guy to be elevated. Vesey neither.

I still think there may an opportunity for a Goodrow for Garland trade. He would be the type of player who could fill a top-9 role as a winger, albeit he is paid well @ $4.95m

I can’t see drury moving goodrow mid season

I never bitched about that contract. I thought it was entirely fair for both sides.

I know its a 1% long shot but Id start asking about McDavid. Find a way for Mess to let McDavid know he would be incredible in NY. I wouldn't care how many draft picks it takes because we would likely be drafting #27-#32 where you don't get a McDavid.

Feel the team is really thin on offense this season especially after Chtil and KK injuries. We are playing 6-7 guys that could be on 4th lines in deeper seasons. If we really have cup hopes we will need more top line guys.

We miss Chytil's ability to create offense from nothing, desperately. And I'm of the opinion that if were going to make a move for a Cup, in year without a powerhouse in the East (that isnt us), you get creative and go big. We need another Dude.

We still don't know the extend of Kakko's injury. Hopefully Chytil is back soon too. If these two were back and in form that they had late during last season - the Rangers would be 3 lines deep offensively and with a very capable 4th line too. I'm just not ready to start moving futures and other assets typically required to make a move for a bona-fide top-6. And this is even before all the cap restrictions we have to address this.

Duclair is a RW too. No reason he would be a bad signing. Speed kills, and Duke has experience in playoffs and in last year's Cup run. He also will not cost a 1st like Tarasenko will. HOT TAKE: Drury does not have to sacrifice a 1st to upgrade RW1. They need the right fit, and Duke's shot-first mentality and speed would be a massive upgrade to Wheeler's fumbling drunk puckhandling.

This is where I'm at. I'm not sure a Tarasenko is required here. It's also important to note that anyone they acquire will not be getting PP1 time. It's more important for me to find someone who can fit a specific system and player type. I still think finding someone with more speed and the ability to work in small spaces, even if it doesn't lead to a ton of points, is the way to go.

Idk yet. Ive been pumping the idea of a a retained player with term. @Machinehead mentioned Nick Schmaltz which would be on the higher end. Gourde has always been a guy I like and he'd be excellent on our 3rd line. Probably need to wait another month or so to see what our options really are.

As far as rentals go, and I know its become a meme here to want reunions with ex-Rangers, but Tarasenko really interests me. He was what we needed last year before Kane upset the apple cart. A guy who can finish on chances in the slot and around the net. Plays a heavy game and just would give teams another guy to account for. He always seemed like he wanted to be here.

All in all, its not a great market for teams in need of forwards.

The assets of would take to get McDavid would be of stupid proportions
Maybe so but how often have the NYR had a McDavid player in their prime? Would help if McDavid asked for a trade to NY. When we traded for Beck and Messier some people at that time said we gave up too much but often the quality outlasts the quantity.

Lets say it was Chytil, Kaapo, Lindgren, Perrault and 4 first round picks (which will be late picks). A 8 for 1 deal. Id do that in a second. None of those guys will ever be a McDavid. Chytil and KK have injury risk. As does Lindy who will need a contract. Perrault is far from a lock.

McDavid-Zibs-Vinny down the middle.
Laf-CK-Bread on the wings.
Fox-Trouba-KAM on defense.
Igor in net.

That is a team that can win!
