We keep saying it's fixable.

We talked about how this is their third coach and it would be telling. Lafreniere has responded and Kakko hasn't.
Kakko had a good year last year. A 40 EV point defensively superior wing is a valuable asset. And thinking that’s the best he could be, at 21-22, is illogical.
Yes, I’m saying it’s fixable, and it taking more than 19 games doesn’t make it un fixable. Again, if by the TDL nothing has improved I’d understand the pessimism better, though I may not still be on board with some of the trade proposals.

Also, you have to keep in mind that nobody is saying "get rid of this bum today."

We're saying he's a candidate to potentially be traded.

Here's the guys that, in a trade, leave a space in the lineup that keeps me awake at night: Kreider, Panarin, Fox, Zibanejad, Trocheck.

That's the entire list.

Agree. Although with how good Laf has looked I think a true breakout is coming so I'd add him to that list.

46 and 51 pts 5v5 in 63 games the last 2 years is a 60 and 66 pt pace. That's elite 5v5 production no?
At 26 and 27 years old. And 40 point EV production from a defensively great 21-22 year old is worthless? My point is he probably wouldn’t be a close to ppg player here, as people were painting him. And we are talking about KK AND a 1st, not a straight up trade.

Again, I’m saying we should not sell low. And that is not a Kakko exclusive point. It’s just bad business across the board. You don’t sell low on any player unless you really think it makes you the favorite.

He's close but even that would depend on the trade. Miller too.

The guys I listed are straight "no's" unless it was an NHL 24 trade on easy because we literally can't replace them. Even Trocheck and Zibanejad are just because of position.

Kakko has been good every other season since he arrived. In terms of all around play. It’s an odd trend but has continued apparently with yet another down season this year.

YOU aren’t. Some people ARE looking to “get rid of this bum today.” If I appeared to be painting you with that brush, you have my apology.

no shesty?

Goaltenders, you can just pick off of most bushes.

Teams that can't find good goaltending absolutely astound me. There are more teams with two good ones than teams with no good ones.

I'm actively looking to avoid extending Igor to some bullshit contract to be a .918 goalie when Joey Asswipe will come in and put up a .917.

Ignoring that Zucc just signed an extension to stay in Minnesota, he sucks in the playoffs.

There is more than enough data to support this.

How about some ideas involving guys who HAVENT PLAYED HERE BEFORE.

Only wanting guys who HAVEN'T played here is just as selective as wanting guys you HAVE played here lol.

What players? No player exists that adding him makes you feel you’re the best team going into the postseason? That makes no sense to me.
No player we could add would make us that heavily favored. Those players aren't available and lets say even the most elite players become available (lets say McDrai are available) you are dealing from your roster to add them.

Kakko is a significant dog to have a single season as good as Schmaltzs last two.

That said, Schmaltz makes nearly 6M AAV as a small, weak, very smart, skilled playmaking wing. He is also the prototype of a guy who helps win RS games and gets erased in the playoffs.

I don't think he significantly adds to strengths or shores up weaknesses. I'd rather keep Kakko, and I think Kakko is Just A Guy.

I don’t think it has to be that dramatic. If you are already a top five team and you can make a non superstar move that shores up what you consider a vulnerability or weakness, then you can maybe move yourself up to THE favorite. I’d say this team is currently a top 5 contender. Do you think sending KK and a 1st for Schmaltz pushes us to that top spot? (I don’t, but that’s me) If so you do it, even if KK and a 1st is a long term overpayment. I don’t think that’s a crazy slant on it.

Some players I am interested in from the current crop of non playoff teams:

Tyler Johnson
Luke Kunin
Alexandre Texier
Jason Zucker
Adam Henrique
Shane Pinto

Give me guys with a motor that are comfortable playing multiple forward positions. I’ll take whatever depth NHL D can be had for a 4th.

has anyone mentioned Blais yet?

I do like the Shane Pinto idea
Ottawa is just going to build for another two years, they're not serious this year.

He's also impossible to trade for since they're somehow more capped out than the Rangers.

They will be a fun test case of the slow traditional build the Rangers FFwd on. They look very much like a video game team to me. They need a lot more starch that can play big minutes. I don't think they'll do much in the end.

Where are we getting these numbers from? Schmaltz had 38 5v5 points last year and 40 the year before.
He played 63 games last year so the higher 5v5 numbers are “projections.”
meanwhile KK got 40 5v5 as a 21-22 year old… Schmaltz had 39 5v5 points in HIS D+4 and was/is nowhere near as well rounded. Now this isn’t me trying to put Schmaltz down, it’s just me saying this wouldn’t be a good value trade. Maybe not even this year when all is said and done. Never mind looking a few years down the road.

I feel like miller/fox hasn’t really looked good but also haven’t had a lot of time to learn to play with each other

Personally i think Kakko is fine where he is, i think he'll be better with Chytil so I'm not concerned at this point with replacing him and i want him to get through this year and start next season before i proclaim him dead to us. I know the expectations of being a 20a have been justifiably high but if we remove where he was picked he's playing decent on line 3.
It's early but I'm interested in depth pieces at this point, a stay at home dman, and if Kane fell in my lap for cheap and free I'd say you'd have to be crazy not to take him.

Pinto doesn't make sense unless Chytil is moving to wing. He's better than a 4th line player and will cost more than one.

The gambling situation may play into Ottawa's favor if anything. May be able to sign him for cheap
