Aside from Andrew MacDonald, have there been others in similar situations who were in the AHL while having a cap-hit of over 4m?

I get that channel on Fios that plays KHL games all the time, so I watch a game or two each week, in addition to any interesting games I've streamed here and there. Point is, I've seen my fair share of KHL hockey. Anyway, to me it always seems like I'm watching a very clearly minor league that is a substantial step below the NHL. It feels like the AHL with each team having one or two higher end guys drop in.

I agree with Machinehead, people put too much stock in the KHL. It makes Beargloves a better prospect and probably closer than a guy coming from major junior or NCAA would be, but it doesn't mean he's NHL ready. This isn't a Radulov we're talking about here either.

For perspective, would people be penciling him in the way they have all summer if the team he was a part of helping win back to back championships was in the AHL and not the KHL?

I hope Bereglazov makes it and is a legit top 6 guy because that's a free 23 year old player, but I'm not penciling him in.

Agree 100% I also have fios plan and watch plenty of KHL hockey. It's the AHL on bigger ice with about 4 or maybe high end teams with some NHL quality players and a huge drop off from there. I take very little stock in watching SKA or CSKA beat up on teams nowhere near them.

I'm not surprised for a second watching bereglazov struggle at a much faster pace. And camp will be even faster. He's got a long way to go compared to DeAngelo who has played at the NHL level and proved he can do so. Also fits our scheme way better.

Sorry to bash the KHL but if it's the second best league in the world it's a far drop outside of about 4 5 teams

KHL rosters are dotted with ex-NHL'ers who kind of fell off, ex-AHL'ers, mid-30's players, tiny guys who excel on larger ice surfaces. Most teams have two or three guys that can maybe play in the NHL with the exception of 3 or 4 teams that have 7 or 8. If you look down the rosters at say the the 7th best team and then the 10th best and then the 15th best etc. you should know what I mean.

It's not primarily a development league like the AHL is where you'll find many more younger and rawer players. The KHL is a very good league but it's not the NHL and when comparing it to the AHL one should keep in mind that it's not a development league per se.

That being said Bereglazov has a pretty good pedigree--young, big, played regular on one of the best teams, WJC experience.

interesting way to put it. sounds like he'll give Staal every chance to do his thing and hold down a roster spot, but if he plays like **** then maybe he'll lose his spot. maybe.

I mean what choice does he have? Staal has a NMC has to hope for the best like we all do when it comes to staal. Disaster 5.7 mil for 4 more years guy is only 30 years old. Should have a ton of hockey left in him and stinks

So with AV calling Miller a center, that makes the lines:

Kreider-Zib-Buch
Nash-Hayes-Vesey
MZA-Miller-Grabner
Puempel-Desharnais-_______
Fast on IR to start the season

Missing anyone?

A bit late reply, but the pages goes so fast here on this topic.. :D
I hope our top 1 #7 draft pick manage to be NHL ready this year, but since they talk so much about trying out Miller in a center position and a new role for him with the Rangers. Maybe the coaching staff has already decided that he needs another year developing in Sweden, or maybe they consider him too young.
It`s not a tradition in New York to use very young players in NHL, but we can only speculate.. I hope Lias Andersson is NHL ready this year. ;)

If Miller struggle in that new role - we might see a line like this.
Miller - Lias - MZA and Miller can help with faceoffs if necessary like last year.

*It will push Grabner to our 4th line, because we are still a very deep NHL team no doubts about that.

Finding a replacement for Lindberg's role is going to be a lot tougher than people think..

Agreed . Hope Desharnais doesn't suck . I don't want to rush Nieves

4th line is scary at Desjardin, Desharnais, Puempel

Finding a replacement 4th like C is actually a lot easier than people thing. In fact it's one of the easiest positions to replace. Probably third after backup goalie and 4W
