Desharnais, Puempel, Fast, hopefully Gropp.

The Rangers are forming a very encouraging habit of employing 4th liners who are more like conventional 3rd liners and can score 10 damn goals.

which is exactly what you and SF were talking about yesterday. You keep Energy guys as 13th and 14th forwards. For your 10th 11th and 12th forwards they need to be at least competent 4th line guys, preferably 3rd line tweener guys

If they want to play Miller at C then why no wingers on PTOs?

Just do not understand passing on so much free depth. Perhaps some guys just chose to go elsewhere.

IMO, it's not a bad thing to have an extra center as one of your fourth line wingers if they can play that position as well. That way you have someone already in the NHL to move to 4C and knock the current 4C up to 3C god forbid you lose a center.

matt duchene is what...a 6 mil a year player?

Hayes had 49 pts last year...17/32...in 76 games..he makes what a mil?
Duchene had 41 pts.. 18/23 in 77...he makes what...6.5 mil? something like that?

I'd keep Hayes TBH.

Again, I think Duchene is a heck of a player..but that salary...thats a big bullet to bite.

But Inferno, pls. You forget the other intangibles. That clearly makes up the salary difference. :sarcasm:

1. DeAngelo is waiver exempt
2. He is not significantly better than Bereglazov. Just flashier
3. Bereglazov was an integral part of a team that went to back-to-back finals in the 2nd best league in the world, winning 1 cup.

I'm interested in seeing what Bereglazov can do in training camp but honestly right now DeAngelo is the one with NHL experience and Bereglazov has none. 2nd best league in the world doesn't mean a whole lot. He could struggle to adapt to the NHL style of play for a lot of reasons, and DeAngelo already knows what it's like in the NHL.

People put too much weight on someone like Bereglazov playing in the KHL. It means he's a better prospect than someone out of junior or even college IMO but it doesn't mean he's automatically ready to step into the NHL and contribute at a high level. KHL and NHL are very different leagues even if the KHL is technically the 2nd best in the world.

It sure looks better than Powe, Newbury, Asham, Megna, Glass etc.

You make it sound like the KHL is a different sport. Remember, there are quite a few teams who play on NHL-sized rinks in the KHL. It's not as if it's the SHL where every rink is the size of a football field

Makes sense. Center depth would be concerning otherwise.

I keep repeating myself but I've been more concerned with the forward depth overall rather than just center depth.

Regardless of what is said, we all know Miller can play C. Need another body either way imo.

Can't wait to get going. Game on Tuesday I believe.

New York Rangers
New York Rangers @NYRangers
AV said he's told J.T. Miller he'll begin the year at center. #NYR

I would still expect a waiver claim or two, but here's my lineup:

Kreider-Zibanejad-Buchnevich
Nash-Hayes-Zuccarello
Vesey-Miller-Grabner
Puempel-Desharnais/Lias-Fast (injury)/xxx (Boo?)
xxxx

McDonagh-Shattenkirk
Skjei-Smith
Staal-DeAngelo
Bereglazov
Kampfer

Lundqvist
Pavelec

Trade Holden (and hopefully Staal sooner rather than later)

Keeping Lias Andersson to play on the 4th line is NOT A GOOD IDEA. So he is going to play 5-8 minutes a night in a defensive role and develop like we all want him to? Not a good idea

Jt Miller played some 4th line as a rookie. AV is hard on rookies but he develops them. Not a popular opinion but I believe it to be true.

Agreed, it's a waste. Let him develop offensively overseas. Forcing him into the lineup because of depth issues down the middle is not the right way to groom our first top 10 pick in forever.

What if it's only for the 9 game threshold? I'd be fine giving him a cup of coffee experience then sending him back over to play more meaningful minutes for his development.

That's a different story. But if the thought process is that he will be playing on the 4th line, maybe give him a look and then send him back. The Rangers need him to develop into a solid top-6 center, not Manny Malhotra

I'm in alignment with that. They really need to make smart developmental decisions when it comes to Andersson.

AV's 4th line center usually plays more than 8 minutes per game

Not sure that it's the best thing for Andersson but I'm just saying
