Gropp have a shot at making the team at some point this year? Seems like he did well last season

Atleast they have a few kids to watch this season

Since his MO is a quiet goal scorer/sniper, it's hard for that kind of player to impress the coach during preseason. He isn't going to blow AV out of the water with his hustle and forechecking.

If they put him on the PP and he knocks a few goals in, then it's possible. But I'd expect they want him to prove he can score in Hartford before any other steps are taken.

NYR really dont have a clear NHL ready forward prospect. It'll be interesting to see if any of Nieves, Fontaine, Ronning, ect can do anything in camp.

So Bryan Little signed a pretty nice contract. 6 x 5.3

Andrew Desjardins/Farnham might be the fail-safe options, but I think waivers will still be the way to go to fill the 4th line hole.

I mean Pastrnak is a really good player, but he has 1 year of very good offensive output. He's 21, so this takes away all of his RFA years and a few UFA years if I'm correct? He will be UFA at 27?

I feel good w that top 9 but a little worried if they rely on Andersson since he's so young

Desjardin, Desharnais , Puempel really the 4th line till Fast is healthy ?

I would never count on any 18 year old rookie. If a 18 year old can play well it is a huge bonus but it should not be our game plan.

Right now, I'd say Andersson is the closest to being able to step right in. Some would probably argue that Nieves is as well.

Fontaine, Ronning, etc. all seem like they could be potential fourth line guys with time.

I think Gropp is significantly undervalued, and his game could translate well to the pros, but he's still a ways off.

agree on andersson. i still have a gut feeling this kid is not only going to break camp but stick.

i dont buy that he cant develop here. bs.

kids got the game and the head to play a defensively responsible 2 way game. simple, structured and responsible centerman. thats this kids game right now. as he gains experience and trust of the staff, his offensive game will follow.

if theres a kid who can play that game right now, its this kid. he naturally does all the stuff a solid 3 or 4C needs to do. the offensive game will blossom as he plays with more gifted wingers. theres lots of time.

nieves, if healthy, may well be near ready too. av loves the kids wheels and size. he's gonna be a bigger, faster dom moore.

i think gropp will need to marinate in hartford this season. his opportunity comes when 61 is gone and possibly zucc and grabs. there will be a spot avail soon for a winger with the ability to shoot it like he can. he still needs to develop his body and get stronger.

theres some sleeping on this kid. he was a reach pick but the stuff is there. big kid who can really skate but his calling card is his wrist shot. he can flat out snipe. he's a shoot first kid who can go bar with ease. he elevates the puck like all pure goal scorers do. and theres nothing wrong with that on this team that seems to always lack a pure shooter.

It will be an interesting training camp. And normally Holden will struggle to get on this Rangers team with our deep farm, but AV is going to AV so he will probably end up on top pairing with Ryan Mc.
So maybe Ryan Mc. wish he will get moved or traded next season - so he can get his NHL career back on track after the Girardi era, and play with proper first pairing talented players. :shakehead

And Tampa Bay could not wish for a better veteran player in Dan Girardi - they are looking forward to a new season for sure! Dan the savior! The hurricane took a quick turn so that was fortunate that Tampa is still on the map! :)

I've been mostly optimistic with the changes this summer, hoping something happens later on or a surprise training camp invite, but now that we see the training camp roster is anyone else not very impressed? There seems to be a lack of forward depth, even Pirri, guy like Winnik would've been better options. We're a couple of injuries away from being a very weak team up front.

Let's see what hits the waiver wire. The other problem is we don't have a ton of contract slots. I think we're at 45, of course not counting the AHL deals or the ones with slide risks, but I need to see how that works when it comes to guys like Gettinger, Day, etc. with slide risks. If that's the case, we're at 48 or so.

They moved T. Glass away from Av. Yeah, I agree our forward depth in bottom 6 is noticeable weaker this year. However maybe it will be a promising camp for guys like Robin Kovacs he is 20 years old now, and hopefully all those kids in Wolfpack have improved over the summer and one year older!

Duchene saga may finally be over soon (for the 1500th time)

Very happy to see him refer to Miller as a centre. I had a terrible hunch that we would see DD be considered our 3C by default.

Yeah, I noticed that too. I think earlier in the summer, Gorton wanted JT to be a center, but AV was reportedly hesitant about that.

Seems like things might have changed in his eyes.

I mostly agree with this and will point out that 3C on this team is a somewhat luxury position compared to 3C on other teams in that NYR tend to use the third line as a scoring line that gets softer matchups instead of another grinding line tasked with shutting down the opponents top players.

I think Gropp would do well to work on his forechecking and his board play. I know it's easier said than done, but those are some of the most accessible improvements to any player imo. Doesn't take rare skill as much as the drive to do it and sufficient practice to learn how to do it right consistently. Ideally he should be a top 6 scorer if he keeps improving, but he'd be wise to learn to play a third/fourth line game too just in case.
