JT Miller and Nick Holden for Matt Duchene and we sign Jagr.

Yes? No?

If you like dressing a 14 man roster, sure.

Only way that works with the cap is if you pay someone to sneak into the Staal residence at night and break his legs.

Desjardins is an interesting choice. Don't see many Central Hockey League alumni in the NHL. Has good career faceoff numbers. Probably better as a #13 forward than someone we actually want starting every game.

I doubt Sakic would take that given that we got Holden from him and he's reportedly turned down better offers for Duchene. Also, I suspect JT will cost less than Duchene and produce about the same while being slightly younger. Also, JT has a degree of roughness to his game that we need more of if anything, and that's not something Duchene brings really at all.

Jagr, while a legend, is probably too slow to thrive on this team given the type of game they're trying to play.

I don't think JT will cost less than Duchene. He is a significantly better player than anyone on the AVs and Duchene isn't even the best player on the Avalanche.

From tweeted camp roster looks like none of TC tryouts will be at NYR camp
but 24 yr old RW Scott Kosmachuk will be

Bobby Farnham (PTO), Andrew Desjardins (PTO), Scott Kosmachuk (PTO), Brenden Kotyk (AHL)

Interesting uni ##s in the 20'@

Farnham 23
Nieves 24
Desjardins 25
Carey 28
Schneider 29

Kosmachuk has the McCambridge connection from Mannitoba. He's an AHL winger

And speak of the devil, Wolf Pack just announced they've signed him.

Hah
Was just about to ask if he'd sign AHL deal

There's that veteran 4th line C.

Mentioned it for a few weeks now... nice to see the brass knows what they're doing.

I think Desharnais is the veteran 4C.

I think the 3C will either be Andersson or Miller pushed to center with Grabner being in the top 9.

So, JT > MacKinnon??

I can't believe this is even a question.

Mackinnons point totals since entering the NHL: 63, 38, 52, 53.

Tavares point totals since entering the NHL: 54, 67, 81, 47, 66, 86, 70, 66.

Tavares lowest point total in the last 4 seasons is 66 points. Mackinnons highest is 63.

Mackinnon is becoming the most overrated player on these boards. The kid is barely a #1C with the numbers he puts up.

Tavares is MUCH better than Mackinnon.

Desjardins would make David desharnais a 12th or 13th forward. Miller taking that 3C spot is huge.

Kreider-Zib-Zuccarello
Vesey-Hayes-Nash
Grabner-Miller-Buchnevich

4th line will consist of 3 of the following:
Gropp, DD, AD, Puempel, Nieves
Fast comes back after injury, it'll take him awhile since it's hip surgery

Pretty sure he meant Miller not Tavares. Mackinnon gets some flack for playing on absolutely awful teams, but he's way better IMO than his numbers show.

I think Miller stays on Wing

If neither Lias or Boo grab 3C,
DD goes there for a while
and Desjardins is signed for 4C

I also believe NYR are confident that waiver wire may offer as good or better than DD or Desj

Almost all teams have roster or Cap concerns,
and mid/late 20s guys types, who were roster locks 3-4 years back,
are more often pushed out by ELC guys,
a combination of kids being more ready,
and all things being close enough to even, preferring the lower salary

Debatable. What isn't debatable is that for last 4 years (Mackinnon has only been in the league for 4 years), JT has outscored Mackinnon by a large margin. Lets not pretend that the Islanders have had great teams either.

JT >>> MacKinnon

MacKinnon >> Duchene

JT meaning Miller, who was proposed to trade for Duchene. Miller is 2 years younger, will cost less, and will produce very close to as much if not more imo.

Tavares is definitely going to cost more than Duchene and is a superior player to anyone we're discussing, but the question here was moving JT Miller for Duchene.

If that JT means Tavares, then obviously. I'd be hesitant to say Miller is better than Mackinnon. Remember just how bad some of these Avs are, since it'll impact his offensive output. IIRC, they were some kf the worst offensive teams in the league. It's not surprising that the one year the Abs were good, MacK had his best season. He also was a beast in the playoffs for them that year. If we could get him out of Colorado, I'd do it in a heartbeat (no bern proposals, please).

JT Miller needs to be a top 3 C for this team. If he is we're going to have a great year imo. If he can't do it we'll be plugging holes all season. Desharnais is not a top 9 player anymore. He's Lindberg without finishing his checks. I'm hoping Nieves beats him out but have little faith he will. Desjardins might be a good depth move.

Theyre just covering their bases. Andersson isn't a lock for 3C, but neither is Miller. Nieves and Desjardins aren't locks for 4C, but neither is Desharnais. Farnham might not be suited for 4th line duty/13F, but Puempel is no lock either. Camp will determine much.

If we roll with those guys I would change your top 3 lines a tiny bit.

Nash-JT Miller-Buch
Vesey-Hayes-Grabner
