It certainly would not. This is a kid who hasn't even yet played 100 games at the AHL level; I can definitely see a scenario where they send him down to him get a ton of ice time and then bring him along a little slower.

The tools are there, but at this point defensive development and opportunity to play/grow are probably the two biggest focus areas.

I completely agree. He's still only 21 years old. He should be playing a lot of minutes and learning from his defensive shortcomings rather than playing 12 sheltered minutes a night under AV.

The offensive talent is undeniable. Let him shore up his defensive positioning and gap control.

Desjardins doesn't really do it for me. I liked his game in San Jose, but he hasn't really been good since then. For my money, I would have given Winnik a PTO over Desjardins. Winnik is the better player.

I agree on Winnik, although Desjardins fits the mold of a guy who plays a bit of a physical style. I'd have loved both in on PTO's

Good grinder that could be an interesting PTO. I like Gorton giving these guys PTOs to see what they got in camp

This is like splitting hairs to me
Neither is a top 10 forward
There are 310 top ten Fs in NHL
So is Winnik the 350th best F in NHL while Desjardins is 400th?
Whatever

I agree. From what I know of each player, Desjardins is better at Center than Winnik is, even though Winnik is slightly the better player. For the Rangers, it makes sense to take the better center.

sure looking like DesJardins or Farnham will get a spot with Fast out but that is of course assuming they don't stink in camp.

That's for sure. PTO's are great. Much better than 3/4.35M for 4th liners.

Agreed, 4.35m for 4 years of Andrew Desjardins would have been hard to stomach. ;)

Seriously though, AD is one of those types that has taken a really long way and you always respect that. I like him better than Winnik, but I definitely question him at center under AV.

Odd NHL.com list him as LW
but FYI he won 56.5% of the ~40 FO's he took

Desjardins is competition for Nieves for the 13th forward spot until Fast returns or 14th forward when he does return. If Andersson doesn't make the team, bump them up a spot.

JT Miller and Nick Holden for Matt Duchene and we sign Jagr.

Yes? No?

I doubt Sakic would take that given that we got Holden from him and he's reportedly turned down better offers for Duchene. Also, I suspect JT will cost less than Duchene and produce about the same while being slightly younger. Also, JT has a degree of roughness to his game that we need more of if anything, and that's not something Duchene brings really at all.

Jagr, while a legend, is probably too slow to thrive on this team given the type of game they're trying to play.

There's that veteran 4th line C.

Mentioned it for a few weeks now... nice to see the brass knows what they're doing.
