I honestly really love the idea of Kakko as Panarin's RW. Kakko has also probably been the most productive playing RW on Panarin's line. He's great at winning loose puck battles and a hound on the boards. He can break up plays and can also play defense. Great IQ and can hopefully finish chances at a better rate than most RWs ppl try to put with Panarin. Panarin/Mika/Kakko is a legit top line. It also makes it easier for the 2nd and 3rd lines to play a tougher forecheck/cycle game because I think Panarin/Mika aren't good at those things.
You also need to think about the other side of the puck/ice when considering matchups/ice time.

IMO Mika’s reluctance to open it up offensively at times is because of his attention to defense/worrying too much about matchups. He was on an island on his line in that regard last year with Kane on his right.

Panarin/Mika/Kakko would be the 1A line and see the other teams best every night. No one would confuse Kreider with a Selke candidate, but you are replacing him with a giveaway machine in Panarin.

Adding Kakko to that line not only compliments the other two offensively buts cements it defensively with Kakkos takeaway ability, possession metrics and board play as you mention.

You can also stick with Mika and Kakko as a combo on the PK, to better manage TOI

I wonder what tryouts from the Prospect tournament get invited to main camp and or signed to NHL or AHL contract. Skilled center depth is lacking in Hartford so I wonder if they sign McCue and McNamara. McNamara I believe would slide but I could be wrong although he'd have to back to juniors.

Id sign C/LW McCue, C McNamara and D Petroviski

Both McNamara and Petrovski would have to go back to juniors

I'm down to see every combo get a decent look, but in the past I haven't loved Kakko with Panarin. Kakko and Panarin are both best with the puck on their sticks. Kakko in particular has a hard time finding where to put himself to feed off of Panarin but it works both ways. Who knows though, chemistry takes time and Kakko is another year wiser so maybe it finally clicks.

It's funny because as much as we've discussed Panarin and finding the right guy to compliment him (ie. Kane, Strome, Fast, etc), I think once Kakko finds solid chemistry with one of his forward line mates the points will start to pile up. He's a possession beast. Always has been if you look at all his pre draft tapes. So many times he's stuck doing laps because no one knows where to be to take the pass and continue the cycle.

Or maybe he just needs to get better at knowing when to pass and when to shoot, idk. Honestly I'll take either. Or both.

Wheeler isn't gonna block Lafreniere imo. If it were me I'd want him and Kreider playing with Trochek in line "3" but it seems as though they wanna try Laf at rw so Kreider stays in the top 6. With that in mind, I'd like to see, but probably won't.

Panarin Zibanejad Lafreniere
Kreider Chytil Kakko
Vesey Trochek Wheeler
Cullye Bonino Goodrow

When did Rupp become any kind of an expert

He's a devil worshiper, his opinion doesn't matter.

If Chytil does not improve at faceoffs, would you put someone like Wheeler taking faceoffs? He has played center before

Once the season starts everything will be fine. My prediction is they will be a middling team through at least November, but once Laviolette's system kicks in and the roster gets comfortable they will take it to the next level. Almost like the 05-06 Rangers but without the disappointing end result.

Lavy will throw the same shit at the wall as every other semi-capable coach, and the media and fans will make up narratives about him depending on how the players perform in the playoffs. Rinse and repeat.

I've never been more ready to completely ignore the coach and put everything at the players' feet.
I’m in this boat too, basically. Front office and the players are ultimately responsible for the success or failure of the team. But i do think there’s a lot the coach can do and I’m getting good vibes from Laviolette. Whereas Gallant is a well-intentioned but ultimately a cypher, I think Laviolette will push some buttons, hold guys accountable, and in general offer more leadership. And I think that players *want* that, in general.

When did any of us? Hahaha.
Dude played in the NHL and does color and analysis professionally.
I see lots of “nobodies” on here spout with a lot more self assuredness and certainty without any experience in those areas… it’s just they are usually chronic Debbie Downers, and just somehow think that shitting on everything makes them smarter than everyone else. Theres this weird thing where people think pessimism is somehow more realistic than optimism. It’s not. BUT I guess being lifelong NYR fans can make us ready to always believe the worst. Hahaha.
Of course take ALL opinions and predictions with a grain of salt, it’s just one man’s valid take. A man with a lot more connections, access and experience in this than most of us, but still just opinion.

This is a depressing roster. Two stars, a likely declining power forward and a bunch of has beens or plugs. With our star forwards now on the wrong side of 30, our playoff hopes are at the mercy of our division.

Ten years of NJ owning our asses await. Sigh.

Our success was always dependant on development of our young players, they've taken too long to change the development staff and we're currently paying for that. As they say though, better late than never. I think this team is better than the one we started the season with last year.

Camp didn’t even start yet and you’re throwing in the towel on the next ten years. Hahaha. This team and board have broken you!

I’m just talking about Rupp. Ok, he’s an athlete. But he was not a good hockey player. Certainly not a coach. I would not put a lot of stock on what lines he’d roll.

Oh, me neither. It’s just his opinion. I take them all with a grain of salt. What you said just struck me funny. I was generalizing about this board, sorry if it seemed like I was singling you out, I get how’d you take it that way being I quoted you. You just got me thinking.
