We're getting smarter, at least in theory lol. Butterfly taking over goaltending, the 1-3-1 power play.

There's a reason why over the past 15 years you see fewer and fewer defenseman deployed on their offhand side.

You have to be special enough in today's game that even minor adjustments seem like mountains to climb.

I think the biggest factor is that hockey today is much more dynamic than it was 15-20 years ago and beyond. Wingers in open play move laterally all the time in today's hockey.
Hockey today is fast. Fractions of a second to make decisions. You even face or make a step the wrong way and you're out of the play.

The only way that's even remotely possible is if Kakko moves to 3LW which only happens if Laviolette has an aneurysm
Obviously, but if Othmann is 3RW (best case scenario, actually) there's already a hint in the air of "heavens to Murgatroyd that's the 3rd line!!!!"

He might play 15:15 a game at even strength instead of 15:25. The humanity.

Yeah. At this point I just want to enjoy pre-season games and watch the kids to see what they can do.

Othmann, Edström, Cuylle, Sýkora and Berard will for sure get some game-time. That's players from 4 different drafts to keep an eye on.

For Othmann it'll be a great barometer compared to where he was last year. I don't really care whether or not he makes it. To me it's 50/50 at this point. There's no real indicator what path he's going to be on, as of now.

I do wonder how long Othmann's leash is, being Drury's first ever draft pick.

I honestly really love the idea of Kakko as Panarin's RW. Kakko has also probably been the most productive playing RW on Panarin's line. He's great at winning loose puck battles and a hound on the boards. He can break up plays and can also play defense. Great IQ and can hopefully finish chances at a better rate than most RWs ppl try to put with Panarin. Panarin/Mika/Kakko is a legit top line. It also makes it easier for the 2nd and 3rd lines to play a tougher forecheck/cycle game because I think Panarin/Mika aren't good at those things.
Me too. Kakko was getting into good shooting position last season, if I recall correctly. And his shot has been improving. Panarin will get him the puck.

I’d like to see Laf, Zib, Kakko … let that simmer

Panarin , Chytil , Wheeler
Kreider , Trotchek , Goodrow
Then hope Othmaan can eventually earn his way up to bump Goodrow down

Bonino , Vesey , Pitlick is fine to start but Cuylee could get a look

Playoffs I’d think Pitlick is a spare

Am i the only one that would prefer vesey over Goodrow as a third line winger?

Goodrow makes every line he touches worse. If he has to play at all (and unfortunately he's still not the worst F on the team either), it should be on the 4th line where we can minimize that
