It's becoming clear that the benefits of drafting well aren't so much 'cost control' (These guys are getting 90% of what they would in UFA now) it's to avoid the bad end years of a long term contract, having 8 year deals expire at 29-31 instead of 35-36.

Its been clear for a while. But dont worry, drury is smarter than everyone else.

Kane will be back there was way too much done to get here in the first place for ONE injured playoff push. I said it when we got him still believe that now

The guy I think is also coming back has to be motte. They’re not going to keep pitlick over him and he would have signed elsewhere by now otherwise

Kane is a maybe.

Motte signed with the Senators last year on 9/14 and we were all thinking the same thing as you are above.

Oh, we're back on Kane again?

I just do not see what or how he strengthens this team.

I will caveat this by saying that with a healthy lineup he may seem a bit redundant but if the lines are created correctly or there is an injury at tome point, Kane becomes a really nice piece.

I don't buy into the statements that he is a 'bad player'. The guy creates offense regularly.

Motte in his first playoff stint w the rangers was a force, he was fantastic on the 4th line, and was everything we needed there.
In his second stint he wasn’t that.

In fairness he came, played like 2 games and took a direct head shot from Austin Watson which saw him miss significant time. He had 10 points in 24 games which was on pace for 34 points so points-wise he was productive.

I'd still take Motte back. I think he's a useful 4th liner honestly.

He's unnecessary at this point. Not that he is BAD, as you said, he's a good 4th liner, but there's no room now, especially since we'd like Cuylle to take that step to the bottom six.

I don't think he's what we need. It's just a bad fit imo

I get that it's hard to say no the a player of his caliber at or around league minimum

While I'm not a proponent of trying to sign Kane, at least the Rangers and us fans are going to get a good couple of months to see how the depth plays out on this team before they'd even have to broach the discussion.

If he's back to 90-100 point kane, obviously he helps the team.

You'd have to be a real optimist to think that at this point though, unfortunately.

The gaps in his game just become way too glaring when he's playing at a level similar to last season.

Honestly, lets see what Lafreniere, hopefully, does with Panarin and Chytil/Trocheck as a RW for 20ish games before even looking in Kane's direction.

I just can't see Panarin and Laf meshing.

Happy to be wrong.

But Panarin has constantly wanted/needed someone on the opposite wing who can go into the corners and retrieve the puck for him or the center.
Lafreniere just isn't that.
Trocheck occupies the same space on the ice as Laf in the offensive zone (net front/side) so I don't see that working either.

I dunno. Laf just feels like the odd man out. He can't drive a line, and what he brings is already accounted for on the existing lines... Also... he hasn't shown any kind of ability to play on the right side.

There is a lot of hopeful people here...and I commend that. I just don't see it.

Kakko on the other hand, I really could see him breaking out.

Really sad when a so called "superstar" needs a certain type of player to be effective. Sounds like Panarin is the problem, not Laf in this.

They won't have a choice no? Kane won't be ready until Nov-Dec right? That would def give them time to figure out what they have.

New coach, new responsibilities/style of play? If everybody is right about the coaching systems effecting play then we wouldn't fully know how much they'd mesh under Laviolette's system. That's what practice/preseason is for I'd guess.

8 mil for Sanderson and 10.5 for Dahlin is going to put us in a bind if Miller continues his upward trajectory and cracks 50 points the next 2 years. Fox's contract is an absolute steal though.
All they had to do was listen to bern and do 6.25 or even 6.5 x 8 instead of all these bs signings and go with the kids.
But nnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

bern remains swamped
hopefully next wk peeps

I think Kane comes back as well, I'm not sure of the route he takes but there was mention somewhere of him looking at Detroit as well, maybe sign there for a decent 1 year ntc deal, trade deadline to new york or just straight up wait til after christmas and sign with us. I think Motte is likely not, i believe we'll fill that spot internally, Cullye, Pitlick, some other Wolfpack or Othmann after Christmas.

I think Motte is better and more useful than a guy like Pitlick and even Vesey. I would welcome him back at the league minimum

Why give a young forward a shot that's proven himself at every level, when they can sign a 29 year old 4th liner with a history of injuries and also sign another guy closer to 40 than 20 who just had hip reconstruction surgery?
