Rangers aren't winning anything with a soft regular season player that goes invisible in the playoffs like Panarin
Great thing about sports is you get multiple opportunities to redeem yourself. Literally every day. This is a world class player who is offensivy gifted. You can be frustrated all you want but please spare us speaking in absolutes. Teams win stanley cups with a mix of players. We don’t need Panarin to be some physical force in the playoffs, that isn’t him & it was never him. They need him to drive offense. Let’s see what the 2024 playoffs bring

100%. Any Rangers fan would be stupid to not be rooting for Artemi to figure out the post season. That's the most straight forward way to the cup. He may figure it out with a bit more maturity, who knows. Maybe he's had bad luck and it's snowballed into a mental block for him. The post season is hard on everyone, it takes a special player to shine there. Artemi is a special player, hopefully this post season he shuts all of us up for good.

If he was able to do this in the playoffs, he would be a f***ing legend in New York...no, he would be a god.

But he has been shit in the post season. That's all anyone's saying about him. Be that guy in the playoffs. It's a legitimate gripe. As much as you want to pretend fans who say this don't have a point, they do.
My point is that that player is still there, @GoAwayPanarin is saying he’s old and not the same player anymore, I’m saying look at his highlights from this season he still looks absolutely elite. He’s still capable of great things.

The shaving his head thing makes me think he’s genuinely ashamed of his playoffs and he’s motivated to prove himself

Sure, here's a list of good players with 100+ 5v5 playoff minutes and an equal or worse 5v5 pts/60 than Panarin the last two seasons:

1. Brayden Point
2. Brayden Schenn
3. Sam Reinhart
4. Matt Boldy
5. Martin Necas
6. Andrei Svechnikov
7. Tyler Toffoli

And here's a list if you only look at primary points/60:

1. Jason Robertson
2. Matt Boldy
3. Sam Reinhart
4. Nico Hischier
5. Robert Thomas
6. William Nylander
7. Andrei Svechnikov
8. Jesper Bratt
9. Brayden Schenn
10. Martin Necas
11. Anze Kopitar
12. Tyler Toffoli
13. Brayden Point

Seems like it's pretty easy to have poor production in multiple small time frames.
How about updating this list with a Salary column?

this is his last chance.

The arguement, which I fully understand, is regular season is worthless if you choke in the Playoffs. 3rd times a charm. I'm giving him slack becuase the ENTIRE team sucked 5v5. EVERY FORWARD.

The system, effort and teamplay was an embarrasment. All around. Not just Panarin. This is his redemtption arc or he will be shipped out of New York. There's no more excuses.

I rather keep Panarin for his reg season impact alone than ship him off with salary retention and getting a shitty contract back just so we can sign someone underwhelming in free agency.

He can shave his head, he can still put up a lot of points on the powerplay, he can still laugh and grunt, what matters is will he play lazy and not go to the dirty areas at least a little/during the playoffs?

If he draws coverage from top defenders and allows other lines to contribute that's helpful too, i realize thats a lot to pay a guy but if we get 100 points and make playoffs because of him and he can distract teams from the other scorers that's a plus. The problem for us is that outside of Kreider nobody else took advantage of that. The key to getting Panarin more points is to have more scoring threats on other lines. Teams like Tampa get scoring from 3 lines, it's hard to defend that. Imo when Kakko, Lafreniere and Chytil become threats offensively and Zibanejad is released from his shut down role that's when we'll get Panarin back in playoffs. As it is teams are just sending two guys to him, one forces him outside and the d shuts down the wall.

I’m genuinely curious what the people who don’t want Panarin anymore think the team would be like without him

Cause I can tell you the team would be ass

But maybe some people want them to be ass, idk

Some fans seem to think we can just trade Panarin for a boatload of picks and prospects, without any salary retention or bad contracts coming back, and then subsequently sign a Matthew Tkachuk-type in free agency.

It's video game logic.

I've heard the hypothetical of two "Trocheck level" players.

Who? From where?

Trocheck is firmly a top six player and closer to 1C's than he is to 3C's. Where is that just lying around?

There's a reason we signed him when he became available.

Not to mention two Trocheck's is $11.25m which eats almost the entire hit, and that's completely ignoring the retention and money coming back.

Years ago I had a conversation with someone where we referred to Paul Stastny. I am not sure if it was with you, or with someone else but what it came down to was essentially this:

Fans think you can sign 1st line players in free agency. Guys like Stamkos, Kane etc. But it's never those caliber players you land in free agency. Instead it's guys like Paul Stastny. Nothing wrong with that, but it's important to note that free agency isn't this magical place where superstars are just sitting on a couch waiting for teams to offer them contracts. Not in today's NHL. Hell, not even 10 years ago when I had that conversation.

Trocheck is a great example and probably today's "Stastny" in this example. Great guy to have but you're not going to find a guy putting up 80+ points in free agency. So that is another layer to this Panarin discourse that is highly unlikely.

1. Panarin has to waive his NMC (Which I don't see happening)
2a. Then you have to either clear 11.6m in a trade (Unlikely), or
2b. Trade for a guy who puts up 90 points like Panarin (why would a team trade that player away?), or
2c. Trade for 3-4 guys making up that 11.6m like the Gáborík trade to Columbus

What's the plan with any of these 3 scenarios here? You want a guy who puts up 90 points in the reg season AND is a P/GP player in the post-season and you think the avenue to that is to trade away a guy who does just one of those things (if we ignore Panarin's post-season performances prior to getting to NY of course because that's what's going on here as well)

It's just a whole lotta wishful thinking IMO.

All this Panarin talk is so tiresome. He's not going away until his contract is up. He wouldn't waive his trade clause, and trading him doesn't make this team better at this junction. In retrospect, it would've been smarter not to sign him at all, but what's done is done. Getting rid of him now doesn't improve the team. All you can do, is hope he can do better in the playoffs. There's no alternative.

His scoring rate has dropped in each of his 4 seasons here while league scoring is going up.

He is straight up not doing things in year 4 that he was doing in year 1 (and its because he cannot do them anymore.)

You're living in fantasy land if you can't see that hes lost a step.

•Fire Lav(?)
•Brendan Smith was fat
•Brendan Smith sucked
•Should have Re-Signed Brendan Smith
•Lafreniere didn’t train like Rocky
•Lafreniere needs to play on the Right
•Lafreniere needs PP time
•Lafreniere hasn’t earned PP time
•Lafreniere hasn’t signed bc the Rangers don’t care
•Panarin needs to be traded
•Panarin shaved his head and popped a gun off
•Goaltending doesn’t matter
•Replace Shesterkin with Joey Tits and we’ll win
•Kreider stopped jumping out of pools
•Goodrow’s overpaid by 12M
•The team has no speed
•We don’t have the right personnel
•Othmann will save us!
•Othmann can’t skate
Without Zubov on D we can’t win
•Bolding a Post makes it indisputable!

Great off-season we’re having. I think the board has collectively taken like, 3 steps back.

My Instagram feed keeps throwing me new clips of McDavid, Hughes, and Bedard training together with PEP. Meanwhile, I've seen one picture of Laf this summer and it's of him playing softball (badly). Yes, I know this isn't the full picture. Still.
