NY Rangers = America's Team
FWIW, I heard from a little birdie that Jay O'Brien will sign with either the Rangers, Bruins or Panthers.

Who is this birdie and are they reliable
Isn’t O’Brien the one that even the flyers are choosing not to sign? Like we have no center depth in hfd, they have no center depth at all.FWIW, I heard from a little birdie that Jay O'Brien will sign with either the Rangers, Bruins or Panthers.
I would not mind O'Brien as a depth playerFWIW, I heard from a little birdie that Jay O'Brien will sign with either the Rangers, Bruins or Panthers.
No. There's no compensation from the team that signs him. Philly gets a 2nd in 2024 because they didn't sign him. It's just an extra pick awarded by the NHL.O'Brien appears to be a pretty physical 23 year old center. I don't see top-6 upside, but maybe 4th liner if he develops properly?
Something to note is that the Flyers chose not to sign him but they get a compensatory pick I believe. So if someone signs him, they get 2nd I believe?

So it’s a 22 year old who’s not worth a 2nd round pick. Seems like a long shot. This is what I recalled, just worded it improperly.
People saying the Flyers didn't sign O'Brien and therefore were walking away from the asset. That's not accurate as they chose a 2nd in 2024 in lieu of O'Brien. Some teams could value him as a 3rd or later and the Flyers may as well.

IT'S THAT TIME. 5 PM BECOMES COLLEGE FREE AGENT DAYM RANGERS PLEASE SIGN SOME CENTER AND RW DEPTH
Intrigued by Farinacci, Wise and O'Brien
It would be nice to get one of those guys. The Rangers need a center, even if it's just someone who can develop to be a 3rd/4th liner...
Said the same thing about Hayes & Vesey (and to a lesser extent Gilroy) before they signed here too. Never knowIntrigued by O’Brien although I expect him to go to Boston. They got no center depth and he’s from there, seems like too good of a match imo
O'Brien sucks.
Faranacci is interesting.
Chances that Rangers sign some of these younger free agents today after 5PM?
I think it's high. If I was a young player I would like my odds as a center with their current depth
All in the right context. As a 23 year old who was drafted in the first for his offensive game, his college numbers aren't particularly exciting... like you said previously, for a guy who could maybe fill out as a bottom 6 option, it's fine. For someone his age, I wasn't overly impressed with him watching BU this year. Honestly, the 19 year old Greene should've been their top center all year. But, like all of these sorts of prospects who have a limited ceiling and no particular standout trait, it really becomes how responsible are you, can you chip in some offense here and there, can you kill penalties, etc...If we try to keep things in perspective a bit:
Jay O'Brien's stats the last 3 years
16 points in 16 games
22 points in 24 games (4th in points but 1st in points per game played)
32 points in 39 games (3rd in points on the team)
If the Rangers had selected O'Brien with a later pick, say 4th round, these would be pretty solid numbers.
Again, I'm not saying he turns into something but I think some of his numbers appear worse than they are, mainly because he has missed some time.
Robert Mastrosimone played a large portion of his youth hockey with the Long Island Royals. He also played high school hockey for one season as a 7th grader. He routinely scored about 7 goals a game at the freshman level. I know because I reffed his games often.View attachment 736200
