This team needs multiple first liners if they want to contend.

Teams are not trading top guys and many of these guys don't get to free agency.
Trade for a top 6 guy at TDL and retain him. Sign another one at UFA.
If we trade away Brock at the TDL then we need to flip that as well for another top6 guy immediately.

People always ask where are these guys going to come in trades? I have no f***ing clue, I don’t call the GMs but every TDL someone goes and we are like huh, didn’t know that guy was available.

People have to start getting used to the idea of losing Hughes.

A random bunch of misfits from UFA and trades doesn’t build a team

The Dak/Garland pairing are getting chances but aren't coming through clutch like they did last season, maybe with a better center they can bury some more chances. They need to find a 2C and drop Chytil down. They have a collection of middle tier pairings Dak/Garland, OConnor/Chytil, Debrusk/Sherwood.

I heard Pettersson was a game time decision, but I missed the game tonight. How did he play? Is he hurt or is it an excuse?

good effort without hughes lankien was good. that tying goal by blueger was horseshit. it went off his back leg and he got pushed into by vegas player
What? How can anyone take an objective look at that play and think Bleuger got pushed? The dman isn't even facing him. Bleuger goes at the dman, the dman pivots out of the way, and blueger goes straight into Hill under his own steam.

It’s incredibly early to be concluding that. But if presented to us, that’s literally the type of risky swing we’ll need to be able to even get close to contender status. There’s just like no other way with this group, I can’t really see how else and who else. We’re the Nashville Predators if we go on like this.
I never thought I'd hear myself say this, but if I'm taking a swing at one of the two big FAs this summer I think i lean Marner....

Radio had it right: The team looked like they did pre-Miller trade: Lacking confidence with the puck, dumping it out, playing not to make mistakes.

On the game:

- Garland was bad this game. Have to chalk it up to rust, but he was worse than Pettersson and kept getting played more than Pettersson.

- EP40 looked the same, not good. Only this time, he didn't hold his own defensively either.

- Boeser is the brains of the Chytil line, imo, but he screwed up too many times to make it work.

- Lankinen was amazing. He came out too far against Stone (Saad goal), but overcompensating for the team made sense. Great game back.

- Hoglander was going. Made a few plays, threw the puck away, but was good on balance.

- Myers was atrocious, but he should be allowed a stinker. He was excelling before the break. Hope he gets back there.

- MPetey struggled, and I think that cost the team Myers too.

VAN could have stolen this one. Ah well, onto the next.

Hey man at this point, I’d do it too. But having Pettersson-Marner as your 1 2 punch would be the softest core to go up against in the league

Yeah. That's definitely the other side of the coin. EP, Marner and Hughes doesn't scare a lot of people right now come playoff time.

It's hard to compete in this league when you don't have a game breaking forward. Just look at our forward group, not one forward stands out. How do you expect to win or go on a deep run?

Our highest paid player is paid top money to play like a game breaker but he's invisible out there with the occasional defensive play.

People can complain about defense all day but how can you win when you score only one goal a game.

Our forward group is also way too slow. Pettersson and Boeser have no acceleration speed. Nobody can gain the zone, so all we do is dump and chase just to lose the puck.

I guess the question the Canucks fans are asking after this game is a legitimate one. Is this team couple of players away from a long playoff run? Or are they a playoff bubble team, that needs to sell at the TDL?

I think you could argue, it's the latter. Even with Hughes in the lineup, this group just isn't built to last long in the post-season. And with Pettersson laboring along like he is now, they have no chance.

So this is one year they should be holding on to their draft picks and even thinking about acquiring some more.

this is a premature take, but with how good dpetey is looking... if we can get a legitimate game breaking forward, preferably a center... i'm ok with putting willander on the table.

talking like, pastrnak level. but we need an elite forward. there's a very real possibility that we don't have a single one.

It’s the first

Chytil's speed & poise is fantastic, but guy misses the net too much.

He was in a great spot playing with good players in a secondary role (match-up wise) got the best shooting opportunities of anyone on the team and missed the net every Fing time.

I'm not off the Chytil bandwagon at all, but c'mon fella.

Honestly though. The team was really rusty, and I think it was to be expected. EDM got dummied by Philly, NYR got embarrassed by Buffalo. Not saying the roster is perfect but we didn't have our A game tonight & other good teams didn't either.

I thought Pettersson's line was their best. Got the only goal.. Idk. Its first game out of the break. Pettersson being hurt is a concern but they just need to shake off the rust more than anything.

Hopefully they win tommorrow & can start getting back in a positive groove.

Man, we Vancouver fans sure are easy...

1. Skate fast
2. Shoot hard
3. Don't fall
4. Punch

thesis: Linden, Burrows, Smyl, Bertuzzi, Kesler, Ohlund, Bure, Jovo, etc.

on the upshot

I think we have a lot of guys on our team who when you go "who NEEDS to score"? Well, right now, there are a LOT of guys. But I think we got a lot of the right guys. Not the best, just the right guys. I felt the same way about last year's team but they simply got outclassed. No shame in that. We didn't bring in a lot of 'right' guys, but the ones from last year mostly are gone and the wrong guys have been replaced as well. I see it as a lesson learned that the Oilers didn't have to quite confront for real.
