The season needs to start, I see we've now ventured into the 'thunderdome' portion of our post-post-season-post apocalyptic board chatter here.
Enjoy it while it's quiet. Go to the gym, walk outside, spend time with relatives, etc. Tomorrow is never promised and the weather is actually good. The season needs to start, I see we've now ventured into the 'thunderdome' portion of our post-post-season-post apocalyptic board chatter here.

As someone who has had a very disjointed summer and spent a lot of time in hotel rooms, AirBNBs, friends air mattresses, and even in a hospital room helping a relative recover from surgery (all is good thankfully), I'm "excited" to have a free calendar the next few weeks especially with the Europe-Asia part of my company on summer holiday.
BTW Laf will sign most likely in early-Sept. Remember Stepan's deal in 2013?
Man, I'm just fu*kin' around. I'm having a tough time too. Hope you're ok!!!
I know Laffy will sign. And I hate hearing every time I speak in 'Rangers' with people: "Oh man we're trading Laf." It has become the new version of when you talk to anybody outside of NYC and they say: "How is it there? I hear it's the ninth circle of hell."
I'm good and everyone is healthy, just exhausted from all of the traveling and road time I've logged...not to mention the people and weddings I've been to.
Next three weeks is #FullIntrovert so hope to be able to post here more about how Edstrom is going to steal a roster spot from Pitlick lol.
Good. Glad you're ok.
With sports and young athletes in particular, sometimes you never know who could surprise. Edstrom could wind up playing for this team for years. Ya never know. We're due for a homegrown great third liner / amazing fourth liner (if someone replies to this sentence with anything Laf-related I fuc*ing swear).
I'm just sayin', I'm here for the edstrom/pitilick talk. My gut is to hate Pitilick, but if he fits in, he fits in. He's Vesey to me this year. And now I'm jazzed on Vesey as long as he doesn't touch the top six unless catastrophic injuries occur.
Really? So in your opinion it’s somehow a good thing that this “generational franchise altering player” is still unsigned and the training camp starts in a month?
That’s a sign of how mediocre this guy has been that this organization did not lock him up right away. They are treating him like he’s not even wanted( don’t blame them as he’s been average at best.)
Even you Laf lovers seem incapable of making sense. If you love the guy wouldn’t you want him around? Now you are the ones telling me it’s not a big deal he’s not signed…I’m confused. Truth is I could care less if they sign this guy because I’m fairly sure he’s not gonna amount to much but I do think a bridge deal is worth giving him since he’s so young. Not because he’s shown anything…
The idea is they are treating him like he’s an expendable piece. Name one other top overall pick that’s been treated this way- name him, I’ll wait.Yes in my opinion this is not a big deal and you are providing an injection of a dramatic overreaction to two sides dealing with a contract situation like every other team does. It’s business.
Go enjoy the rest of your summer. Show up in October for opening night in which Lafreniere will be on the opening night roster
What does this reply add to this thread? The idea that the first overall pick is somehow dangling in the wind like some expendable piece during a crucial summer in which he was supposed to make huge strides is looked at as “business as usual around here” just goes to show how laughable this fan base is. It’s why Ranger fans get crucified on the main boards of this site. Try and look beyond what you know and look at other organizations. No one treats a first overall pick this way- no one. But again facts are a stubborn thing.

Zegras was not a first overall pick. In fact he was picked after a guy our own organization has already gave up on in Krav( different draft I know but same idea). While it’s most comparable it’s not exactly the same situation. To put things in better perspective and why I’m not concerned about Laf, is that Zegras or Drysdale still have not been re-signed yet with the Ducks.
This is the part of the process. It could drag into Sept. As long as it’s done before training camp.
It’s not about treating him bad or not, this is just how negotiations go.
No they are not treating him that way. That is just in your mind. The idea is they are treating him like he’s an expendable piece. Name one other top overall pick that’s been treated this way- name him, I’ll wait.
What??? He’s not even being offered a long term deal, basically a bridge deal and they have signed about every 4th line washed up 35 year old wing they could ahead of him. I mean I genuinely have no idea how you guys can’t see how if you really wanted a player you would sign him especially knowing this whole “hold out” is essentially over at most 700,000 dollars. But yeah you know it’s just “the way things are done around here.”No they are not treating him that way. That is just in your mind.
What’s the up side for him to sign early? He can wait to see if he can get more money when other comparable players sign. Even if it’s just a $1 more, it’s a $1 more at the end of the day. What??? He's already signed. Drury just doesn't want to ruin Vegas' Stanley cup post-celebrations with announcing it and having the media talk about that instead of them. I heard it was an unwritten rule. What??? Sign early? He’s not “signing early.” By this logic every player should sign a day before training camp- heck why not wait till opening night to sign? Really— you can’t understand why getting your top overall pick signed early so he can get to work in the off season would benefit both the player and the organization? I mean if he really is holding out for the most money he’s not getting any more than maybe 700,000 dollars more than what a bridge deal of 2.5 million would get. That’s all this is over. It’s not like the sides are 5 million apart. What’s the up side for him to sign early? He can wait to see if he can get more money when other comparable players sign. Not being signed, doesn’t mean he’s sitting at home doing nothing wrapped in bubble wrap. So what if it’s only an extra 700k, that’s an extra 700k… zero issue with him and his agent trying to maximize his pay (even if I think he’s been terrible).Sign early? Should have drafted him 7th instead of Lias Throws Medal and trips over wire AnderssonFilip Chytil was drafted 21st overall in 2017.
This past season he ranked 13th in points in his draft class.
ES points: 9th
ES goals: 4th
5v5 P/60: 7th
5v5 G/60: 7th
5v5 A1/60: 10th
What are you expecting here?

I mean it’s painful to look at this list and notice how literally every other top overall minus Yakipov is locked up or intended to be locked up while our first overall is trying to get an extra 500,000 dollars out of an organization who does not seem to even want to lock this guy up. I really can’t make it any clearer as to how this situation with Laf really reveals just how “different” he’s being treated. Again it’s his own fault but wow- this is not the way it goes.
By not signing over 700,000 it clearly sends a message that you are not that committed to the organization. Plus, with no contract for next year it very likely does mean he’s sitting at home in bubble wrap doing nothing because if he blows out his knees and is not under contract he will be paid 0 dollars next year. Not being signed, doesn’t mean he’s sitting at home doing nothing wrapped in bubble wrap.
