Eh, my biggest takeaway is they’re shooting % is half of what it was last year. Applies to the PK as well. There might be improvements in goals for/against over the season.

Special teams expected goals rates:

2020-21

Maybe it's just shooting luck but I've never been bullish on PDO and stuff like that--things that just lump everything the stat can't quantify and call it 'luck.'

So is the complaint that there appears to be a bust among the last 8 first round picks that they had?

They missed on Lias. They hit on trading up for Miller. They hit on Chytil. Lots more good than bad.
There’s a long standing argument that they wouldn’t have swung for chytil if they didn’t have what they thought was the safe pick in lias.

Could well be.

Sometimes I just forget what exactly it is that people are complaining about. No matter what it is, we certainly know whose fault it is.

what's Zibanejad's Sh% on the season, 1.00%?
PP? 5.26% (shots on goal,) 2.77% (shot attempts).

The Strome hate is extremely warranted.

Do we have a better option at this very moment? No.

But lets not play dumb and act as if the people who have a disliking for Strome are crazy. He has been putrid and his play has really been no different from the rest of his career.

He is on pace for a 45 point season. So yeah, i would say that he is basically producing like he has since he became a Ranger. I can see the much warranted hatred.

And the Lias pick turned into Cullye so the jury is still out.

I haven’t seen one poster refer to Strome as anything but a short term stop gap, if he continues to put up some points with Panarin then fine. My Strome plan is to work out a deal with the Kraken that we leave him exposed for them for a 3rd unless someone offers a stoopid return at deadline

The annoying thing about Strome is when he's playing bad he just kinda floats around out there. He doesn't work the boards for shit and is always late getting to position to help the cycle, he doesn't forecheck for shit, he doesn't carry the puck, he just waits for Panarin to find him
When he's playing well he gets into position better but still doesn't forecheck or work the boards worth a goddamn

There are one or two weirdoes out there that said they'd be ok giving Strome 5 years as opposed to 2, FWIW.

Only way I'd do that is if he took 1.5 mil a year lol.

Would really like to see Panarin-Chytil-Strome tested at some point, with Strome taking the important faceoffs. The downside to that is you're right back to Howden at 3C in that case.

I feel like 2018-19 Strome had a lot more grit

Well the scary part in this is that Howden has been better on faceoffs than Strome, albeit he has less draws taken, but still. Strome is 43% on faceoffs as our 2C. Only 50 centers have taken more faceoffs than him so far this season. And then also keep in mind he is currently at the most Offensive Zone Starts (62%) in his career at the moment and thankfully the least Defensive zone starts (37%). Thats just so incredibly bad. He is getting a lot of starts in the offensive zone with a 43% on faceoffs. And he cannot be trusted defensively is exactly what Quinn is showing.

Again, I keep harping on possession which affects overall gameplay. Forget point totals. For me its about controlling the play and the puck more than the other team. Strome has had a negative affect. When he has had the puck their has been a lot more bad than good.

The complaint is this particular top 10 pick didn't work out, kinda already said that. It's not just that he didn't work out. How do you draft a guy that slow in the top 10, he almost never had a chance to workout.
