i was stunned Kreider wasn't moved at the deadline. To a lesser extent, i figured Strome was gone too. Possibly ADA and Fast would be shipped out.

Now here are. Kreider long term, Stome is back and ADA was resigned and benched after a game and now is sitting. That's a lot of money tied up in the above and what did the Ranger obtain at the trade deadline for the above? Nothing. They took on cap dollars.

Now if the team was winning i think we could all feel better. But we're losing and are not scoring. And these prospects, i know Kakko had ice time last night, but so often they aren't getting much ice time while these veterans are doing what?

We hope this irons itself out. It's no slam dunk though
Totally understand where you are coming from. Definitely no slam dunk. I think from my perspective, I view this teams actual window opening sometime around the 23-24 season. Everyone talks about "growing pains" during a rebuild and I think that is the phase we are in now. I actually thought they would move Kreider as well. Post-pandemic in a flat cap world, with hindsight that contract obviously looks worse than it did at the time of the signing. However, his modified NTC kicks in 23-24 and I think they will be able to move the contract if necessary. I believe they tried to move Strome and DeAngelo this off season but could not find the right deal. Think Strome is fine as a stop gap and unfortunately he is actually our best performing center at the moment. Like I said, I don't expect the organization to get things right 100% of the time. Overall, I think they are getting more things right than wrong. Does this team still have a bunch of holes, yes, but those were my expectations heading into the season. Again, just my opinion but I can actually see a grand plan which hopefully fills those holes and ends up with a few Stanley Cups in our future. Just going to need a little patience.

Just to clarify, by 23-24 window I mean actually having a chance to win the Cup. I expect our young talent to develop and make the playoffs starting next year.

When did this "Four more years" narrative begin?

Active for what?

Gorton is about as safe as any GM in the league.
People are making up a four or four-five scenario to feed their need to whine about the rebuild. Total impatient nonsense. Next season we go back to normal divisions and wild cards and this is a playoff team.

If the Rangers are clearly out of the playoff picture come this deadline, I would consider punting on the season and trading Zibanejad IF the offer was right.

I'd be surprised if they traded Zibanejad before securing his replacement. Wouldn't be surprised to see him included as a major piece in either an Eichel or Barkov trade.

I think it also depends on his performance. He isn't going to shoot 2% all season. If he's on pace at the deadline for a PPG season it's gonna be different than if he's sitting on 15 points.

For me, it's not so much about his performance this season, I just am not enamored with handing him a 7 year extension at 29.

I can understand the trepidation of not wanting to move him without his replacement lined up but I'd prefer to move him for some sort of package now and head into the off-season with the cap space

Not that it needs to be said but- this roster isn't built for Tortorella hockey.

I like Torts but he'd end up benching skilled players to give PDG, Rooney, and Lemieux more minutes.

This is a roster that screams Babcock. Too bad he's a toxic asshole

Why is Georgie playing when Igor has been solid? That's my biggest issue with Quinn, he isn't letting Igor get into a groove. Need to let this kid play, Boston is a good test for him and the defense

If I was running the Rangers, Brian Burke would be my GM. Torts would be my head coach. Craig Berube and Gerard Gallant the assistants. My goalie coach would be Ron Hextall. My sports psychologist would be Sean Avery. Especially if you want to talk about "sloppy seconds".

I'd fire Sam and Joe in favor of Rob Ray and Stu Grimson.

Matt Barnaby and Pj Stock would do radio.

Nick Fotiu would replace Bill Pidto

My team would certainly blow. But every night I'd be 3 sheets to the wind yelling "Rawhide!!" at the big screen from my Lazy Boyee.

Replacing Pidto?

That just downright savage and so wrong lol.

Pidto is a God damn treasure!!!

He’d run Lemieux off the league.

This roster screams nothing.

they literally are not collectively good at anything.

That does not seem likely considering they are currently exactly one point out of the playoffs despite most of their players getting off to bad starts.

In that not every player has a uniform skill set? Sure

But Gauthier and Kreider would both be better in stretch pass schemes

Kakko, Lafreniere, and PDG would all be better with a system more focused on extended puck possession.

This team has a lot of skilled forwards that are not producing the way they should be, and that's a problem. If it's not the system then you're stuck with a depressing alternative which is that Kakko, Lafreniere, and Kreider just aren't that good.
