Man are we still chasing a deal with Calgary, i feel like people have been saying this was imminent since last summer

People weren’t saying. Edge was. And you’re goddamn right we’ll believe what he’s sharing with us cause unlike the fugazy sources you have in Mongolia and Iraq, he actually knows his shit and has legitimate sources.

Also, the players that were discussed last year and this time around are not the same.

I don't think a GM is going to care very much about fan reaction on Twitter. Especially when it's not like fans can boycott games or something. Calgary didn't talk Bennett only to be blind sided by the fans wanting to keep a worker like him instead of bringing in a headcase like DeAngelo. They knew there would be blow back. Could be that they're reconsidering their appetite for tossing a potential grenade into their locker room. Could be because of something they dug up on Tony. Could just be based on the reaction of their own players. Could be that another team got into the mix for Bennett and they turned their focus. Could be any number of things.

The important take away is that Gorton isn't going to be forced into dealing Tony for a bad contract. Tony is the only party that suffers here if things drag out for a few more weeks. He still gets paid and thus his agent gets paid. The Rangers are winning games. No real need to force a trade until someone offers something worth while.

Elliotte on the 31T podcast says he thinks Calgary was close to a Bennett deal over the weekend, hence why he was scratched...
More on that:
  • It is believed that the Flames are looking for a roster player in the same age group and a pick/prospect.
  • Adamant that Jake Virtanen would not be nearly enough on his own.
  • Friedman thinks that Colorado was close to a deal, but then it was kiboshed because the team has been shut down.

Wonder who Colorado would be willing to offer to match those requirements.

DeAngelo, talent wise and with the position he plays, is far superior to Virtanen. But obviously problem is the off ice actions

My guess with Calgary is it has to do more with cap. The Flames are pretty up against the ceiling. Any move they are making has to give them relief. ADA's cap is so large that if they take it, the Rangers have to be willing to do some cap gymnastics on their end. On our end, we have their weird bonus clause issue with our rookies so we need keep that flexible and can't accommodate too much of these gymnastics. I doubt twitter has much to do with it but it is a convenient way to strategically walk away from the deal as well as TANK ADA's value. We're in a quasi-reverse Rick Nash trade where instead of a player controlling where he goes with his NTC, we're stuck with a lame duck we've publicly stated is banished so everyone else is going to play serious hardball with us.

Probably Tyson Jost + [draft pick]. Just a guess though.

I think I would rather have Jost. Dont know the years of control for one vs the other, but I think Jost has more upside moving forward. Of course Bennett brings a different element but not sure its equal value for Colorado.

If Brind'Amour walks or becomes 'free' does the org go after him? Carolina seems to be 'cheap' and is probably hurting financially.

It's about time the organization goes after a macho man (RIP Randy)

No more soft pudgy guys like AV, or walking sticks like DQ.

Rangers need a Man's Man (TM) and that's Rod The Bod.

Chasing, no.

Open to it, yeah I’d say they still are.

Calgary either joins Boston and Carolina, or they fall into that Edmonton category of multiple discussions but only one deal to show for it.

my guess we win another lottery this year(sarcastic yay!), probably 3rd overall? Whoever we get is likely to disappoint. This team can't score a goal on Varlamov. They way they are going they start trading away prospects for vets, which is pretty much what Quinn wants anyway.

You would be well served to listen to the Full 60 podcast with Tom Dundon. Brind’Amour isn’t going anywhere for a long time. Dundon isn’t hurting for money. None of the above.
Brind’Amour has that job as long as he wants it.

It just seems like we are in the middle of nowhere. Lots of young talent and lots of exciting young kids but then we have big contracts for Trouba, Kreider, Zibanejad is another one who might get a huge deal, Panarin who i don't mind since he's always legit. Then you add the buyout money, it just seems like they wanted to rebuild but then they have all kinds of long term deals so it's kind of confusing. I know you need veterans but still
