how is anyone trading for D'Angelo now that he's public enemy #1?

One thing that has kind of gone unmentioned is how shitty our roster construction is.

Our forwards are homogenous AF. I know the FO knows this, but something needs to be done about this before relying on prospects to develop and step in. I was all for shipping Buchnevich out to diversify the group last year, that still stands even with the improved version, if it hasn't become a necessity.

The complete and utter lack of net drive or desire to play in traffic is an issue with this roster. It's magnified when Mika goes from elite to sub replacement player but they've gone from a group that could play on the rush and take 2 or 3 to give 1, to a team that isn't really good at anything. Part of this is on coaching, because we don't have a system (every game takes on the pace/style that our opponents want it to) but the roster isn't really built to push our opponents in any way.

Rebuild likely will be a minimum of 5-6 seasons before we sniff semifinal action....ugghh.....that is a lot of growing pains under any coaching / management. What will be left of Panarin-Zibs-Kreider-Trouba by then? When do they start getting moved out over the next 2-4 years ?

if someone dealt for Avery, and Brashear, someone will deal for DeAngelo. although the value won't be more than what the Rangers got for Matt Cullen ECHL depth and that's it

The issue that is going to happen around here is that what is traded may not bring back as much "potential" as it will diversification. Which is fine for long-term construction, but the pitch forks around here will come for Gorton.

It is also why, I am coming to believe that just like Lundqvist, Kravstov is not long for the organization. I doubt the idea is for him to play in the future as the third line RW. Lots depends on what happens with Buchnevich I guess. We know that Panarin, Kakko & Lafreniere are not going anywhere. I doubt that Kreider is going anywhere. At least not right now. Even when he slides down in a few years to 3W, there still does not seem to be a lot of room. Especially not if the desire is to diversify the forwards. And I believe it is.

Great, 7th OA prospect and 52p defenseman becomes ECHL depth. Great work on asset management there.

either that or they buy him out. I doubt they get an NHL or even AHL player with potential. but seriously I won't be shocked if they lent him to Europe for the rest of the year if they don't get back value that they would want for Tony D and then buy him out

that’s too long imo. The key is winning when the youth is inexpensive. Watch this org resign Zibby long term and we’ll see the youth enter their prime wearing other uniforms.

It's not only or just that it's a homogenous group, it's that Quinn buys so hard into the top6/bottom6 dichotomy. It's exaggerated when there's so many kids in the lineup bc he also believes very strongly in seniority. So you have a ton of players geared towards controlling the puck in the offensive zone, and especially from the hasmarks down -- Kakko, Lafrenierre, Zibanejad, Buchnevich, Kreider, Gauthier, Chytil -- all of whom are willing to go to the net as well, but you have at least three of those players being instructed not to attack. As bottom sixers they're meant to kill the clock, and occasionally surprise with a goal. It makes us a very easy team to match up against.

Lias at 7th overall was an awful pick to begin with. Should have picked a different player.

DeAngelo being a clown is his own fault. Can't see the future and know he would do that

I’ll be interested to see how Gorton navigates the center situation in the next 12-18 months

Zibanejad has been bad but I’m chalking that up to Covid. But if it’s not Covid related the team is kinda f***ed

No 1C in the pipeline, and they’re gonna have to pay out the ass to get one

That's was pre "cancel culture" and Twitter sewage savagery.

Skeletons no longer have closets.

Zib is absolutely killing this team. That's all I got.

The Problem is with Zib in the shadows and Chytil out, we don't have any good centers in the team. Are we gonna rely on Strome and Howden to carry while Zib is struggling? This is also affecting our performance on the wings a lot. The Center issue should have been addressed last season. I dunno, maybe we need to give Zib a break when Chytil is back, play him 1st center for a while.
