This week in Flames — 3 Things We Know, 3 Things We Don’t | Calgary Sun
What is Bennett’s value?
This is a tricky question for Flames GM Brad Treliving, who called Sam Bennett’s name with the fourth-overall selection in the 2014 Draft and is trying to stockpile potential playoff studs, not send them out of town. A week after word leaked that Bennett wants a fresh start, it’s clear that Treliving will be patient as he waits for the right offer. So what’s the ask? Are the Flames looking to replace that sort of sandpaper, ideally in a right-handed package? Are they angling for a pick or prospect, preferring to clear Bennett’s US$2.55-million cap-hit from their books and spend that extra loot later? With an expansion draft looming, can they acquire an asset that will be exempt from that process? The quarantine regulations will also be a consideration if they’d rather ship Bennett out of the division.
Apparently, it aint from us

This no games over the weekend sucked.

San Jose is pick your poison with the worst contract on the team. I think it's Vlasic. Team is a mess.

Still on the table from what I've heard.

Though Calgary, in typical Calgary fashion, is going to mull it over seven different ways, then revive it and mull it over some more.

Any sense that NYR are getting frustrated with the feet dragging and may just buy Tony out?

We have until the offseason to decide to buy him out.
I do not get the sense that Gorton & co. are in much of a hurry. He is content to wait for a deal that will accept. If not, as you correctly point out, DeAngelo gets bought out in the offseason. Gorton is not going to accept baggage or a poor contract just to move DeAngelo. I get the idea that they want to both help him revive his career and help themselves. That scenario does not involved getting upset or taking a poor return.
