See the issue is you guys are appraising people after three games.

That’s not long enough to see a trend or rule any anomalies in play anything more than just a random hot or cold streak.
Keep that up and you'll get banished on account of being sane.

I think both Howden and Chytil have earned an opportunity to skate higher in the lineup after the first 3 games. They've both been among our best players.
Howden played decently on the fourth line. That doesn’t make him a 2/3rd line guy.
We loved fast but all admitted he was over his head on the second line, that’s what would happen with Howden.

It's still early but if this effort continues.

1. Gimme Gerard Gallant before we dismantle this thing. While I'm still unsure it's the coach the team needs a shakeup. Gallant is a proven coach, if he doesn't make an impact then we have the wrong players.
2. If Zib has a concussion, we need to move him asap because that wasn't much of an impact.
3. Run Shesterkin as your 1g, because he is.
Sounds about right to me....I was just about to post that we just don't have the right mix of guys on the team but you beat me to it . We lack a buzz saw type of guy for one...somebody to agitate , throw the big hits and stir the pot when needed ....Lemieux OK...but not enough . What can it hurt with Gallant..how have the R's done under him elsewhere ? He'll bring a bit of old school with him for sure . I agree on Zibs...soft head looks like to me ...but hope for other things like shoulder first .

It wasn't a knock on any player, honestly. I just anticipate some meltdowns when the ice time distribution doesn't go to who they want if it is taken from Strome.

so anytime he has an open shot, including last night with under a min to go, that what you tell yourself? That works?

I cant control where the coach plays him. Quinn is the problem, not Strome. Thank god Spooner isnt here to get the minutes Strome does though.

Here’s to hoping Zibanejad isn’t out long because if he is, have to think that could be the season with the way Strome is playing and lack of other options.

If you ask me, especially if it is a concussion, “how will they afford to resign Zibanejad in 2022?” is becoming less and less relevant. But that’s getting ahead of things a bit. Hopefully it’s not serious.

Hence why I said "opportunity" and not "hand them the job." Though if Zibanejad is out for any period of time, the latter might be the only viable option.

Imo people have to get off the XGF charts, they are the worst predictor of hockey going. They don't take into account who has the puck, who's forcing their shot, who the goalie is, nothing. If Panarin goes on a breakaway and Digueseppe goes on a breakaway the XGF is the same, the fact remains i want Panarin on the breakaway over PDG. Same goes for if the shot is in the same area of the ice but doesn't account for if Hedman is defending Lemieux or DelZotto is defending Zibanejad. The only thing XGF predicts is where people are shooting from, and while its nice players are getting to that area the stat is being exploited now. The under 18 team i coach for example, i had a problem with kids forcing themselves into areas of coverage, but they are all worried about getting that shot off from there before they lose the puck instead of setting up a play or shooting for rebounds. They are aware of the stats and are trying to manipulate them in their favour at the detriment to making a smarter player. The XG charts are alright in context, if you have Panarin getting high xg then you got it made, if PDG is leading it its not a pat on the back for him but rather a kick in the pants to our top players.

idk, when Strome refuses to shoot at an open net i’m not thinking about how thankful i am Spooner isn’t bypassing that shot.

Mika watch for me today. Its gotten to the point that I'm hoping for a shoulder because another concussion for this guy and it could be it for him as a player. I don't like that woozy look he was giving on the bench.

Without Mika this center core is gonna get chewed up and Columbus knowing it of course just raised the price of PLD if he's smart. Which he is.

Preparing for "Day to Day with an upper body injury" for awhile.

This is why I took issue with the ADA benching. In a vacuum, it's a totally appropriate decision by the coach. Its the inconsistency that dilutes the effectiveness of the moves, IMO.

Steven had a tweet exchange yesterday about the effectiveness of the Chytil line, but the lack of ice time that which I think exemplifies the problem. I'm not a fan of the reward system here. Quinn preaches that you have to be effective, battle, be selfless, etc. But when the team as a whole struggles, he doesn't reward the few that actually play well and do what he demands. He leans on his horses instead.

I think it's time to stop calling Quinn a development coach. He is just a coach of a team that is developing. Three games in to a growing season and he is trying to squeeze out wins instead of re-enforcing his lessons or to develop younger players. That's fine, but he isn't developing.

Maybe it's just me, but I see shades of AV. Ride your stars, punish the grinders and youth for mistakes. It kills confidence and creativity, while failing to establish an identity.

I don’t remember who posted this last night in the game thread but Quinn is handling the ice time exactly like he’s still in college

which is to have your juniors and seniors play a ton of minutes while your freshman get what they get and not much else

That analogy fits him to a T

Hoping Barkov is motivated to take less than market, come center Kakko and Panarin on the 2nd line.

KZB
Panarin/Barkov/Kakko
Laf/Chytil/Kravtsov
Lemieux/Howden/Gauthier

Barron in when Seattle takes one of those fourth liners.

Because he won't command as much, or because resigning him won't even be an option? I'm leaning towards the latter, because if we can't rely on him to be on the ice, no use in resigning him to any amount.

Its was such a weird way to get injured. I’m just hoping instead of a concussion his balls were jostled a bit while injuring his shoulder. It’s the same look of pain.
