Contract year Buchy:
"I just want my team to make the playoffs,” Buchnevich said. “I don’t [care about] the points or that stuff, lately I just want to help my team win the games and make the playoffs. That’s it.”

“The guy that’s kind of jumping out to all of us is Buchnevich,” coach David Quinn said. “Obviously, he had a real good second half last year. This is the best camp he’s had since I’ve been here."

Sounds like his whole pro career..

He's played at a high level for 5-6 years now and consistently improving slightly each year. I remember him playing for Spartak after his superb u18 WJC performance, and you could see his skill and movement.

The Sorokin-Shestyorkin rivalry has been great for almost a decade and I can't wait to see it continue in New York

That should have been the argument against Kreider, not Mika. Almost all our youth is at the wing position and very little at center (even before Lafreniere). Kreider will be cheaper but that is just because he is worse.

i don’t disagree, but we hadn’t won 1oa when we signed him. Signing kreider makes sense from the lens of wanting veteran leadership and also we didn’t have a ton of lw prospects then. Kakko is rw typically and Kratsov is as well.

This is how he will look after his next 8 year contract is up according to capgeek:

I’ve been calling this for about a month and a half just saying. Even though miller is a big guy, his game kind of resembles josh Morrissey’s to me. Miller is obviously bigger, but their games are both mobile and quick decision making with the puck. Neither are really going to throw a devastating hit. But move the puck quick and make good decisions with it. My main concern was can Miller grasp the angles and play as positionally sound as morrissey or was he far less polished in this stage in his development. By all accounts he is doing great so far and I’m really looking forward to this pair eating a lot of minutes against teams top 2 lines. There will be speed bumps along the way I’m sure hopefully Quinn gives him a bit of a long leash

Once we move Laf to center all our problems disappear.
That likely won't happen this season although he may get a few shifts in some games that are out of reach either way but you can bet your bottom dollar it will be tried /experimented with at some point . Maybe we still get Dubois for the right deal....right for the Rangers....and THEN we entertain trades for Mika or he takes a great 5 year deal to help us win Cup . I'm also open to waiting a full season to see how Chytil performs and Howden or whomever is in the 4C hole does. Then if we have to and have not traded for Dubois....I take long hard look for a rental C or a guy like Kadri /Schenn types.....plus you know the Eichel/Kane talks and other guys will always be swirling .....there will be guys available to at least make us equivalent to what the Bruins had when they won with their C's . Don't panic.....

IF Miller with Trouba pair works out of the gate it would make a positive impact across all pairs:

Miller - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Smith - ADA
JJ
Hajek and Reunanen getting reps on the taxi squad and AHL

And those are the types of developments that can have this team pegged anywhere from 12th to 18th in the league. A player or two steps up, or gives them better balance, it changes the trajectory of the season and the team. Be it Miller on defense, or Chytil clicking Lafreniere, that's where the shift needs to be.

Don’t think I said anything to the contrary. The problem is eventually All #1 C’s become less than that, much like the guy who is the best goaltender in the league eventually gets bought out and moved on from when he became the third goalie on the team. Do the Rangers believe that his injury history will make that happen sooner rather than later? Only they know.
Fair enough. Which is why I think that this year is a pretty big year for him.

Yup, we see it at F, D or G but D is the most vulnerable position
