It's a bad year to have baggage, and want a big payday, while on the cusp of your 31st birthday.

What if we moved Buchnevich and signed Hoffman? i think id sign up for that if Hoffman's off ice issues aren't still a thing. Thats the only way I see it working, Kakko needs a top 6 spot, bringing someone in that might block that isnt a good idea imo but if we moved Buch i might get behind that.

You think Hoffman signs for 3m? Doubt it.

I think NYR are done trying to make major moves this offseason.

I don’t see them actively trying to play 7 dimensional chess with what few UFAs and trade partners are available.

If we couldn’t get value for ADA or Strome I think we’d likely get short changed on a Buchnevich deal as well.

I'd be surprised if the Rangers would consider Hoffman.

As for Buch, I'd suspect any move for him would require taking back salary as well --- so that eats into what you'd pay his free agent replacement.

To that second point, you'd have to get a tangible NHL-level talent in return because you really shouldn't trade him for futures and replace him with a guy who is 5-6 years older. You'll need a roster return.

I think it is important to stress that the allegations around Hoffman are just that. Allegations.

First, the claims were against his fiancé. Second, the claims flimsy and supported by a mob of wives. Third, the Hoffman camp had good evidence on their side.

I won't argue that he now carries baggage by virtue of the situation. But people shouldn't draw conclusions about him or the incident.

I’m perfectly fine with him being someone else’s problem.

Exactly. To your second point in theory I could see Buchnevich moved for LD help but as you said - there will be salary coming back and probably even more than $3+m that is Buchnevich's cap hit.

I was just reading an old thread on Niklas Jensen....what is the deal on him ? Is he NHL caliber ?

I think at this point in his life and career he appreciates the certainty of being a top-6 forward on a good KHL team rather than whatever could happen if he decides to give NA (not NHL as there's no guarantee) another try.

I can tell you that while things never went to a court of law, there's really very little doubt industry-wide about much of what happened. I think there are candidates and situations you hedge your bets with. I don't think Hoffman is one of those situations.

In a nutshell, a lot of teams just aren't going to want to go there, and I suspect the Rangers are probably one of them.

Warts and all, a left handed RW with a shooters mentality???

Playing opposite Panarin?

OOOFFAAAAA

It's true I would imagine the Blackhawks could be convinced to part with Brandon Pirri under the right circumstances.

If the season is canceled, do we keep the same draft order?:biglaugh:

That would be hysterical. Though my guess is that in that scenario they'd do a weighted system taking into account point totals and/or draft position from the last two years and conduct a lottery.

Of course the Rangers winning under those circumstances would be even funnier. And because we're not a small market Canadian team, changes to the lottery system would be expedited.

I'm guessing that unless a team approaches them, the Rangers are done making moves this offseason

Speaking of the season, the NHL is between a rock and a hard place. One story running around last week was the new CBA addressed the compensation for next season and if they play 1 or 82, salaries aren't prorated.

With the league's history, you almost wonder if Bettman threatens to cancel the season if there is no gate and the players insist on full compensation. But there is the looming TV deal and expansion. The NHL can't really afford either scenario.

The players can guarantee their payday, but this CBA demands 50% at some point. If we had 65 games and no gate AND full compensation, the cap would be flat for a decade.

Did you just ignore the #MeToo revolution?
