Agreed , they got Schneider to eventually replace Trouba like 4 yrs from now

Fox is a keeper , TDA gets dealt next year to make room for Lundkvist

This just brought something to mind, and I'm not saying that this is what you meant...

But if DeAngelo gets traded, it's going to mostly be about improving a different part of the roster. It's not really going to be about "making room." That we can do it while bringing along another player with solid potential is a luxury, but I'm personally of the belief that DeAngelo would end up traded whether we had the backfill in the system or not.

The NHL window for the 2020 (sic) -21 season is January 1 to July 23. NBC has a hard stop for the summer Olympics and they will likely want their equipment and talent available sometime sooner. The NHL will also need to budget some”snow days” for situations where games have to be postponed because of Covid-19. Unlike baseball, you can’t play doubleheaders.

So I’m thinking January 1-May 8 is the likely calendar for regular season games. That’s 128 days. One game every other day is 64. That’s a lot of hockey so the actual number may be closer to 60. Playoffs start May 11 and conclude approx. July 4th. The league has a 10 day grace period to work with in the event the schedule is disrupted. NBC gets some time to prepare for Tokyo.

Young deep teams (maybe) with two good goaltenders (+) will have an advantage over older, thinner teams.

Hoping it's 60. 48 in 2013 felt like it was too short. I feel like 60 is closer to feeling like an actual regular season.

Hopefully if Shesty proves to be the real deal, which I think he is, we can lock him in before having to hand him a huge deal. If he has a great year this season we should be looking to get him at a decent aav for 6 years or something. If you bridge him to like a 2x4.5 or something then you risk having to give him 8m or something the year after. Who knows though, it's hard to speculate when he only has 13 NHL games on his resume at this point.
They better give him an NDC*

Are they going to do some sort of preseason? Even it its only local like Rangers/Islanders/Devils playing each other 2 or 3 x each and Oilers/Flames, King/Ducks, the Canucks can take on mannequins in Kraken jerseys.....

But seriously, need some way to evaluate players like Miller, Reuenanen, Barron against other competition.

With no posts since Sunday I figured a good time for a quick question . Will Rangers go after a designated goon/heavyweight or ride things out with our current crew and hope we are team tough enough ? Will those games against Cap's Wilson and the Isles Ross the Boss ..especially if we play them 6 times in a regional bubble like season ...be a factor in their decision ?

Considering your bubble context, that's a very pertinent question to ask, imo.

But who is out there to scoop up?

Consider this. Laff has been billed as being a feisty and determined player. It's not hard to imagine someone in a multi matchup divisional battle wanting to prove a point to "the new kid". We dont need him getting wrecked his first season. He is still just a kid.

Might not be a bad idea to find a guy to patrol the ice under the current circumstances to protect our investment.

Oh yes. I look forward to seeing Lafreniere on a line with Brett Howden and some random goon as he "learns how to play the game"

I think Rooney is as close as we are going to get to that kind of player. I looked and he had 2 fights last year, one against Nick Cousins and the other against Kreider.

I don't imagine he's going to fight a whole lot, but he has good size and can play a more hard-nosed role, I think.

In this era of the NHL, I don't think enforcers are any kind of deterrent, so I don't see the need to bring anyone else in to fill that sort of role. Kreider has fought at times, and will again I'm sure if people are running the young guys. Honestly, I'd be more intimidated by Kreider wanting to fight me than I would an enforcer, because when Kreider does it, you know he's pissed and not just doing it because it's his job.

We have Smith, Lemieux and Deangelo as willing fighters and i doubt Kreider, Lindgren, Trouba let him get picked on either. Unless we get Reaves there's really nobody around who is gonna change peoples minds, we had Haley and stuff still happened, team toughness needs to be a priority. Its for this reason i feel its possible we see Lemieux and not Gauthier on the 3rd line.

Even Reaves wouldn't change anyone's minds.

isnt Martin still unsigned? or he is waiting on the Islanders? tbh I been a fan of his earlier in his career. he is not the worst tough guy in the NHL. id take him on a 2 year deal within reason of salary. 2 years gives him some trade value, I wanted Kyle Clifford he signed cheap on the Blues. I would gave him that contract.

Rooney was our one talentless rough offseason signing let’s not go hoping for another. This represents a measured improvement over the Asham, Boogaard, Haley tradition.

We are not a pushover of a team, we just have yet to establish that we can play defense. Toffness is there.

I also think Lindgren will have even more of a nasty streak when the book is finished being written on him.

We also didn't get to see Lemmy & a healthy Tony together in the PO's against the canes. Those two on the ice half the game in the PO's is going to be incredibly irritating to opposing teams. I just can't wait.

There's a certain intelligence that goes into being able to hit effectively. It's why you see that many of the league leaders in hits also have terrible possession metrics.

Just like playing any other phase of the game, you need to be smart enough with your positioning on the ice that your hits actually have a positive effect on play. For most players that don't have freakish skating ability, that means being selective. That, in turn, means you probably don't have the "hit anything that moves" mentality needed to be a hits leader.

Now, I will also say that there are some players that have an unquantifiable effect with their hitting, especially in the playoffs. Those are the players whose hits are hard and frequent enough to start to wear down guys and impact how they play. I think Wilson is a player that can do that. Martin was another in his first stint with the Isles, before he lost a step. Ovechkin was another who could play like that when he wanted to.
