Unless his game falls off a cliff he is likely the last dman to leave here. He's probably more untouchable than Kakko.
I wholeheartly agree. With what fox has shown in his small sample size has been remarkable. I could see them moving Kakko for Eichel or a similar young player. Not that they would but just saying. as far as untouchable status it’s
LaF /shesty
Fox
Kakko

We still don't know what Fox's ceiling is. It could be astronomical or he could top out as aa 2nd pairing guy.

No way I'm trading him until we have a better knowledge of that that is.

I would trade Nils Lundqvist for Turcotte right now. Or a similar highly rated center prospect. Center and RD are the 2 hardest positions to fill on a team. I don’t think DeAngelo breaks the bank here. The loss of Nils would suck but Schneider mitigates it.

everyone has to understand a thing about players. Some guys play in the league really well. They get to the garden and they aren’t as good as they were before or can’t take the pressure of playing in the big stage of NY. We have seen it time and time again. Not only does tony D play well, he plays in New York well. He skates around on the ice like he’s got the biggest swinging D... in the building. Don’t get it twisted, that moxy or brashness or whatever you want to call it makes the other guys around you try harder and play better. Wilson has it in Washington, Marchand in Boston is another and Tony has it for us. That’s the main reason why I’m really hesitant to deal him. He has shown he can deliver on the big stage and is very well liked in the room as a teammate. When the going got tough for him, he didn’t cry, pout, or demand a trade. He buckled down and worked harder and improved every year. DeAngelo could play on my squad any day of the week, I wish we had 3 more just like him in various positions
This is exactly what I was talking about in the original post.

For now, yes. In 2 years, maybe not. Which is what I had said... Cap world, roster balance, etc. and so on. I don't think Fox OR ADA are Rangers 3 years from now.
Fox is part of the future. He’ll be 30 years old lifting his 3rd Stanley cup while wearing an A for us.

dude is an absolute stud. Keep him over every Dman at all costs.

NHL agent survey: 21 reps talk star trades, bubble standouts, offseason winners

1. Which player or coach changed your opinion the most during the playoff bubble?

Kakko had 1 vote:

“Kaapo Kakko. Seeing him emerge and mature after that period off — I thought his maturity level and the way his approach to the game really improved.”

2. Which team has had the best offseason so far?

Rangers with 1 vote:

“The New York Rangers — by getting the first overall pick, they were lucky. But by getting rid of (Marc) Staal’s contract, which other teams would have loved to do — they were able to do it. They clarified the whole situation by (buying out) Henrik Lundqvist … They’re setting themselves up in a very good way. They got their guys in on decent contracts.”

Hopefully it’s closer to 60 than 48. Simply because if you start out cold your f***ed.

I think they'll push for 60. According to an article on the athletic, they need to play 60-70 for the TV contracts.

NHL's 2020-21 plan: What we're hearing about the start date, hubs and format

One longtime league executive said he thought the NHL would go for 48 games but other sources have said that number is too low. In order to fulfill responsibilities with broadcast partners both national and local, plus sponsors, multiple sources on Thursday’s calls felt the number would have to be between 60 and 70 games.

The whole concept of untouchables on here is getting a bit ahead of itself. Fox looks to be projecting that way. Lafreniere ought to end up in that category. Kakko ought to develop there as well. Shesty projects to be that good, but at the same time, if the rest of the roster pans out as good as we’re hoping, do you want to pay Shesty 8M eventually when you could have a Markstrom level goalie at 5-6M? The goalie market is always saturated (I’m only using Markstrom as a comparable not a target) and goalie’s hold less value. I’d love for Shesty to be here as long as Hank, but I can’t say he’s untouchable. It’s tough to really call any of them untouchable right now.

I’d argue there’s a difference between a goalie making 8m vs an an elite forward or Dman. Shesty isn’t the issue right now.

We’re not talking about right now. Just saying that long term, if Shesty is as good as he looks, he’s gonna be due big money eventually. Whether it’s second contract or third contract, it’ll happen. When that time comes, given the other guys we’re also hoping to keep long term and expecting to be good enough to deserve big money, I don’t know if I EVER believe in paying a goalie 10% of the cap.

Hoping it's 60. 48 in 2013 felt like it was too short. I feel like 60 is closer to feeling like an actual regular season.

Hopefully if Shesty proves to be the real deal, which I think he is, we can lock him in before having to hand him a huge deal. If he has a great year this season we should be looking to get him at a decent aav for 6 years or something. If you bridge him to like a 2x4.5 or something then you risk having to give him 8m or something the year after. Who knows though, it's hard to speculate when he only has 13 NHL games on his resume at this point.

On this I agree. Not that Lundqvist wasn’t amazing in his prime but that cap hit was ugh. It’s not an issue for awhile but when the time comes, I hope the team has developed depth. They do have a great track record of drafting/developing goalies. And to back your point up with one of my own, not devoting 10% of your cap space to a goalie allows you to spend more on skill positions.

I hope these bridge contracts were done due to the rebuild and not as a long term strategy. That does need to change going forward though. We need to start signing guys to long term deals early if we are to ever have these bargain contracts other teams have. Some will hit some won’t, but we have to have the good ones. Tampa is a great example. In a capped league, you can’t pay everyone market value. The only way to avoid that is with ELCs and early long term deals.

Fox will be Deangelo won't. Fox is one of the best young dmen in the league. He is the future of our d-core.
