Smells like a pivot last minute cause Hall went to Buffalo
Don't think 4.25 is a crazy amount but yeah I'm sure if they were smart and patient with their money (the cap freedom they had before making the Allen/Edmundson/Anderson moves) they could have made a play for Hall.

I don’t want to sign someone at this point just to sign them.

Some of these names are pretty much deciding between which broken or worn out toys we want.
We have a better offense and overall a bit younger faster/quick strike like and possibly more physical . Our defense that we know of like in Trouba will be better in his 2nd season here...Fox in his second season here and Tony if he sticks around will be cockier then ever if K'Andre and Jack J and Lindgren are on the ice....our D will definitely be more physical . Overall...we are better than last year and we just have to gel and play for one another...and it is a given that our goaltending and puck clearing by them is MUCH better . That in itself is a HUGE boost to our defense . Pencil this team in for a top 3 division finish and if anything else...I put Quinn on early watch until December 1 of the next season. Then if need be I hire Gallant if he has not signed with Seattle by then .

I honestly don't know what the Habs are doing?
MB feeling the pressure no doubt but if Kotkaniemi and Suzuki continue to improve they got a guy with a good shot to flank them. Weber and Price have about a 3 year window. I don't think its a crazy move. I think the big money they gave to Allen and Edmundson showed a little lack of patience by MB

Price is not leading that team to anything.

It's more about the moves they've made all together in the offseason rather than this one in particular. Like they spent money on 3 guys who vary in quality as support players in lieu of signing maybe 1-2 actual difference makers.

If they want to continue to mediocre it up, thats fine by me though.

Tatar could be gone. Not sure how much money they need to clear up?

They're about 354k over the cap, according to CapFriendly, but that's with 12 forwards and 8 dmen. If they drop Oullet, they'll be under, but won't have a spare forward. They still have Hudon as an RFA, but he spent most of last year in the AHL. Don't know what happened to him.

I’m not really sure why it bothers me, but I find this Pietrangelo situation irksome.

He decided on a team that can’t afford him, knowing they can’t afford him. The whole league now knows he’s decided on Vegas and Vegas can’t shift a dime of cap space because no one is going to give them fair value. No one is even going to give them $.50 on their dollar.

It just seems like a lot of stubbornness. It also cracks me up because he wants to sign in Vegas but he wants them to make room for him, so in effect, he wants them to make the roster worse so that they can give him more money.

If I were any GM in this league, I’m not helping Vegas out unless it’s highway robbery. You want to move 5M in cap? Okay, I want Schmidt/Martinez/whoever + Krebs and here’s a third rounder. Oh, a third rounder isn’t enough? Well, just look at it this way, I’m giving you Pietrangelo + a 3rd.

Is there a point at which Vegas says... yeah, we just can’t make the money work? What does Pietrangelo do then? He’s painted himself into a corner where virtually no one has the cap space to sign him now. I always liked him, but I’m kind of hoping he has to take a one year 5M deal somewhere when this is all done.

From all indications, if it isn’t Vegas, it’s back to St. Louis and they’re also over the cap. If Vegas can’t dump one year of Martinez at 4M, good luck to STL dumping Steen or Bozak at even more money. Same situation applies; why would any GM help them?

That is my point about MB being impatient and using up most of his money signing Allen/Edmundson. Maybe they could have went after Hall? Word is they didn't try. They used up their free salary cap space too quickly.
I know Price is hated on here (Just like Weber was) but he can definitely be competent enough if they can score goals consistently.
They are a little above average team but IMO now a playoff team. I just don't see how they are bad enough to get a very high pick for next year and the following. It is what it is. I think this is a decent signing for them.
They aren't getting rid of Weber or Price so they are "stuck"

If you're going to pass up on a player you believe can help your team because you don't want to help Vegas, they'll find another team willing to take on the player to help their team.

Anyways, it seems to me that they have a move lined up for Schmidt and they are just waiting on Pietrangelo to decide, not the other way around.

From What I saw of him he never really separated himself showing he could belong in the top 9 and they seemed to like other players for the 4th line. he put up good numbers with Laval. Maybe he's just a Lettieri type. Good in minors very fringe in the NHL.
Word is that he could be signing in Europe.
