We're still going to be better than last year.

- Staal to Johnson is a wash
- Fast to Lafreniere is a major upgrade offensively
- Another year of development from our kids
- Lundqvist to Shesty; MASSIVE upgrade.
- Play-in Kakko >>>>> Off the boat Kakko

We can use ...
2way Middle 6 center to replace Strome or move Chytil to RW.
A shutdown/puck moving LHD.

These can still be obtained from trades once things settle.

I still think we land a Cirelli or Lindholm

On the flip side, are we assuming we're getting another 40 from Mika and a MVP level season from Panarin?

Thought there was a chance they might kick Strome and ADA decisions down the road another year.

Still would like to see them sign a more dependable 4C but I can't imagine Boyle is in the price range right now NYR need to get everyone else signed.

Mika may slow down but others will pick up the pace. ( goal total wise... it was borderline absurd ) We should be a fun team to watch but still suspect defensively ( unless some other moves are made )

Devil's advocate:

Johnson might actually be worse.
Yes, but Fast is a major upgrade defensively
Some up some down. Sophomore years are worse for a lot of rookies
Upgrade, for sure.
Kakko has to show more than last year, that's for sure.
PK will almost certainly be worse.
Was Strome a My Sharona?

And rumblings AP wants to stay in St. Louis, who also doesn’t have the cap space for him.

Krug, Parayko, Falk, Scandella, Gunnarsson, Bortuzzo and RFA Dunn. Thats 24M.

They’re over the cap currently without Dunn signed. They’d need to find takers for Steen and Bozak or move a player they don’t want to move, and still likely dump a salary, in order to fit AP. If Vegas can’t dump one year of Martinez at 4M, good luck to STL dumping Steen or Bozak at even more money. Same situation applies; why would any GM help them?
I think AP being elsewhere is a done deal, if I read between the lines right they conducted a fairly insulting initial negotiation with him

But that takes it back to Vegas being really the only team that seems in the mix. If the deal for Schmidt is in place, what’s the snag? Still not enough cap due to whatever is coming back? Pietrangelo won’t commit? If they won’t trade Schmidt til AP signs, but AP can’t sign until they trade Schmidt then we’re going to be sitting here while they gawk at each other for a long time.

Dunn lacks arbitration rights, they can QO him and move on. They have two FAs with arbitration rights, if either files, they can use a buyout for Steen and or Bozak.

I think it'd be in their interest to explore trades of Binnington and Scandella. both make too much for their ability and can be improved on in this market.

I dont know if the Blues are willing to make those moves to keep Pietrangelo in a top four that would feature Krug Faulk and Parayko. But they still can. I wonder why all that about LV and Schmidt leaked out, only for Colaiacovo to tweet 'no deal tonight'. Next level bluffing? Did St. Louis call AP and ask for more time? Did LV watch AP's market disappear and now wants to scale back their offer? I'm eating popcorn over here.

Very surprising move by the Islanders. They have to be gearing up for the inevitable rebuild...again.

I also think its a case of having a hard time moving guys like Boychuk and Toews needs a new contract.
