I honestly rather keep ADA for next year. Give him 3 years $15M and re evaluate. A LOT can happen in a year.

I'd rather go a safe and boring route like trading for Bonino and Ekholm. '

Add a solid vet foundation to allow the kids to be kids.

You can’t keep Ekholm and Tony - so you’ll have to pick one.

Flames fan coming in peace...

I Would be very surprised if Monahan is moved to your team in return for Dman as main piece coming back.
It would destroy our C depth. We sure lack an elite 1C but Monahan is at minimum a fantastic 2C.

Personally, I believe the Flames would move Johnny before Monahan. If there was a hockey trade to be made. I think the notion on HF (general terms of other fan bases) is wrong with regards to the Flames dying to ship the 2 out.

Yet there are Calgary posters on the trade forum who say Monahan's numbers are a product of Gaudreau.

Hanifin-Andersson was much better than Hanifin-Hamonic this year. I didn't watch much of Calgary but was Hamonic a West Coast Staal? Oddly, in 2019 Hanifin-Hamonic was good. or is Rasmus Andersson the difference?

Have no clue
Rasmus Andersson is a great defenseman.

Hanafin would best fit with Lundkvist, but the latter isn't even here yet.

Monahan is a shooting, goal scoring center. Big bodied. Does that sound like any other Centers we know? Oh, you mean Zibanejad and Chytil, and even flourishing prospect Morgan Barron?

It isn't a surprise that the Rangers see why he could work here.

You forgot -below average on defence- and average at best at faceoffs.

It's one reason Carolina bounced us like a racquet ball, and Calgary is moving on from their guy.

I'm somewhat fine with Ziba spinning off hits and with his concussions I understand why, but to have two top centers not playing actual down the middle 3 zone hockey is a recipe for failure.

If Monahans only advantage over Strome is size then why even waste the energy?

Makes sense, they wana see if he can replicate this season or see if it was an outlier with high shooting percentage etc. I’m in the group that think Tony will put up 50 plus points a year anyway especially with rangers stable of forwards. Nils Lundqvist would solve a whole lot of problems if they switch him to LD. Or Tony

You don't trade for a player if you wake up the next day and say to yourself, now how do we upgrade on this player.

3 years takes him right to UFA.

Which is where it may go anyway, yet I think the Rangers should offer him a 1 year deal outside of arbitration at about what he'd get by going through with it, and also offer him a 4 year deal buying up 1 UFA year.

A 1 year leaves him with 2 RFA years after, lets the Rangers still have some leverage to maybe buy up some UFA years on his next deal if they can go longer term then, yet it also allows for another one year deal which would yet again leave him a RFA. That may just turn into 3 straight one year deals, and in the last of them they'd have to trade him if nothing buying up UFA years happened.

Yet more likely they trade him and nearly everyone is disappointed in the return until the spin becomes rationalization. Maybe they package him with something else to make it seem like they received back a better return, and that too will play into the post trade rationalization. My guess long term, any deal made of him turns out to be similar to the McD/Miller type of trade where the Rangers end up hoping one of the assets out of that package turns out long term above a replacement level player, so I hope they at least get and retain a pick out of the deal.

Been saying for months. Give Tony the Werenski contract. Maybe 1 shorter since 5m x 3y would take him straight to UFA. I suppose if they take him to arbitration they can elect a 2 year deal? Maybe that makes the most sense here. Kicks the can down the road with the Lundkvist looming. Allows us (or whatever team that acquires him) to negotiate his long term deal.

SiriusXM NHL - Grant McCagg just shit on Mike Rupp for pushing the idea of the Rangers trading the 1OA. Again pushing this idea after he did it with Dave Maloney the other day. Enough already Rupper
