I don't love it. If Strome was gone i like Danault as a #2. If Strome is still in the equation, who plays with Panarin in top 6?

Like Monahan as a player but have big concerns w fit within the NYR current roster construction. He's almost a pure shooter at C. Stylistically he's...a poor man's Zibanejad. Is that really what the NYR need long term? Does that mesh with Panarin or Laf? Strome as a RHS has a much easier time setting up a RHS Panarin on the left.

In a vacuum I'd welcome him but cost to acquire as well as opportunity cost (how else could those assets be used?) make me skittish.

Looks to me like Monahan with Lafreniere is a match.

Yeah and I just honestly don't see Danault as the right fit. I'm pretty confident that if the Rangers are looking at guys coming up on 30, or guys older than that, it's going to be on the FA market. I don't get any indication that they're looking to move assets to get older.

Count me in on Hanifan for sure, I'm just not loving Monahan but I understand the need to trade from strength and back-fill with young talent. Honestly, it would seem that if Gorton went in another direction, say Vegas, he would be almost required to complete (2) trades. ADA to Vegas and then Buch somewhere else. And that assumes he can get a good young center from Vegas like Glass or Krebs + and a LD somewhere else.

So let's ask this question, what do people prefer:

ADA + _______ for Krebs + Tuch

Buch for Hanifan

OR

ADA + Buch for Hanifan + Monahan

I Would be very surprised if Monahan is moved to your team in return for Dman as main piece coming back.
It would destroy our C depth. We sure lack an elite 1C but Monahan is at minimum a fantastic 2C.

Personally, I believe the Flames would move Johnny before Monahan. If there was a hockey trade to be made. I think the notion on HF (general terms of other fan bases) is wrong with regards to the Flames dying to ship the 2 out.

Monahan is a shooting, goal scoring center. Big bodied. Does that sound like any other Centers we know? Oh, you mean Zibanejad and Chytil, and even flourishing prospect Morgan Barron?

It isn't a surprise that the Rangers see why he could work here.

while it makes it nice and neat to solve both needs in a single deal, given the option I'd rather trade DeAngelo in a 1 for 1 trade for a better LD or C than a package deal to try to fill both holes with lesser players at both positions....no clue if such a deal is possible just saying

I don't know if Calgary has pushed back on moving him. It's possible they said it's not their preference and countered with Monahan. Possibly the Rangers felt it was going anywhere and brought Monahan up. It could just be both teams evolving the conversation and seeing if it gets closer to what both are comfortable with.

Just curious but couldn't they back-fill a bit with Lindholm? Honestly, from the Rangers perspective, I think they'd prefer Lindholm to Monahan

You’d think Buchy and #22 for Danault if you know you can handle the extension is a great trade for both sides.

Hard pass. Age fitting a potential window, and potential extension and I don't think I'd do Buch straight up for him. I'm not even a huge fan of Buch to begin with.

Another guy that I would be surprised to see being moved.

The one player that I think would fit your team is Mikael Backlund. However, he is a couple of years too old based on what I’ve read in your thread. Outside of that, he’s solid 2way.

There have been ongoing conversations for two years regarding a variety of players on both sides. Monahan is apparently one of those players.
