Heard from a friend...teams looking for an RHD who can move the puck are looking hard at DeAngelo and Dumba. Both of their teams are playing hard to get but they are in competition for with the same potential buyers.

And that's also why you're going to see multiple engagements involving the same players.

For example ADA is someone who comes in conversations with both Vegas and Calgary. Obviously, he can't be traded to both places. So you see where both talks go.

So what do we do when Dillon resigns with the Caps?
Then we look elsewhere for a short term LD solution.

As opposed to imo selling low on DeAngelo’s value by including him in that Calgary package.

But also maybe the CGY deal doesnt happen without DeAngelo.

I've watched lots of Flames games, because I've always liked them from Canada, and usually when I wake up their game have been rolling before I go to work(because the time zone). And I can say Monahan is so soft. Not good at all defensively. Yes if he is on rhythm he can put puck in the net, but man he just don't commit enough to be a Center, and guy just disappears for the longest times. Flames fans are so annoyed about his efforts in the Center position they would more likely to see him play wing. Yes, sometimes new environment can change things, but in this case I truly think his commitment will never translate to be a good enough 2C

Lindholm is different case. But even Treliving knows this, and I'm pretty sure he is off the table.
This is a solid take. Lindholm’s availability could depend on how much Treliving wants DeAngelo.

the extension is the bigget factor IMO

for sure. But he’s the one older guy I’d gladly give 5.5 mil to maybe even 6. Those aren’t insane numbers those are manageable numbers and he gives you everything you lack on this team up front.

I would prefer Lindholm as well. But that might not be something Calgary is willing to do.
The natural follow up to that would be if they've been talking about Lindholm for a while, what all of the sudden caused Calgary to push back on moving him?

Unless the conversations have been Gorton asking for Lindholm and them not really giving a yes/no

Before people panic, remember that we're speculating on packages. There's nothing set in stone. We could easily see a deal come through that only involves one guy going each way with picks and/or prospects involved on either side. What's close today could be off the table tomorrow.

You’d think Buchy and #22 for Danault if you know you can handle the extension is a great trade for both sides.

I think Monahan could be a great candidate to do more in a lesser role here, kind of like Kessel with Pitt when they had him on the 3rd line. Having Mika infront of him would ease the load/pressure on him and afford him more favourable matchups. Cap hit is a little alarming but I can certainly see the fit.

Also a decent insurance policy to have incase we think Mika wants to walk at UFA, for all of his flaws Monahan has handled 1c duties.

You guys are greatly over selling Chytil.

His possible potential ≠ next year

He has a lot of developing to do. It doesn't mean he cant improve greatly year over year, but we shouldn't rely on it. Hertl played wing until he was 22. He took off at 25. I have doubts of Chytil even at 3C ( barring any developments at camp ) but a lot of people are just casually throwing him in as the 2C. I just dont see it

I tend to agree. I'm not 100% sure that Chytil's best position is center either. I wouldn't feel comfortable gifting him the 2C job this year without some insurance at least.

Whatever NHL player we bring in is going to have flaws.

And even blue chip prospects like Kakko and Lafreniere, are going to have flaws (the less, the better).

But everything we do is going to come with a risk factor. And simply waiting on every prospect to make it isn't going to be an option for the Rangers. It simply isn't.

We could go round and round in our heads about this and provide mental comfort however we want.

Let's pretend for a minute that ADA is on the Flames roster, and Monahan is on ours. If the shoe was on the other foot, we probably wouldn't want to trade for ADA.

We'd see posts about not needing a RD, not seeing a huge improvement over what we have in Fox, wanting to wait and see what we had in Lundkvist, not being solid on Chytil as a center to replace Monahan's established production, etc., etc.

I mean at some point, I honestly think that the fear of being "wrong" about something can't be the primary motivator for inaction.
And yet, it almost always is.

I mean I think a big part of it is also as Edge said the NHL (including the Rangers I'd guess) don't value DeAngelo quite as much as we do probably because of that defensive deficiency. I think if they didn't have Fox they'd absolutely be hanging onto him though.

I also feel like you're underselling Fox and what he did for some reason. A rookie on a 50 point pace with no 1st power play time is pretty nuts.

Ultimately if the Rangers are OK with moving DeAngelo I think they're seeing something in Fox that makes them think he can fill the same role but be a better player (plus he's younger and more cost controlled for the time being), they know they have Lundkvist in the wings, and they think they can fill some other roster holes that are in desperate need of filling

It's certainly a bit of a gamble but wait and see can also be wait and miss out
No, I get the perception of DeAngelo and why the belief regarding Fox is there. I just wish it were a bit more tangible. People were of the board happy with Skjei only to have him regress.

I fully get that Fox is here and Lundqvist will be in another year or so. And as I have said before, I fully expected at least one of DeAngelo, Strome and Stall not to be here at the end of the year. The possibility that it may well be all 3 would be surprising.

I also have learned to to be of what could be (Lundqvist and even Fox to a lesser degree), but rather on what is. But sure, bring in Hanafin and another step forward for Fox and you have a very solid top-4. And one that is certainly in much better shape than the one that was here last year.

You’d think Buchy and #22 for Danault if you know you can handle the extension is a great trade for both sides.

Look I get why people would like/want Danault. He's a very well rounded center and fills a hole in our line up.

But this is a wild overpayment. This is still a guy who's never scored more than 13 goals in a season, will be 28 when the season starts and a year away from UFA money.

I wouldn’t even hesitate centers like Danault don’t grow on trees.

sure maybe Montreal adds a little something to facilitate but easily that’s a great deal for both sides

As long as you take advantage of it.

should clarifying having too many good players is always better than not having enough good players...people are worried about what happens if we get a 2C and then chytil develops and we have 2 good middle 6 centers. but what happens if we don't get a 2C and chytil never improves?

You’re on an island here.

you know I thrive on the island

50 pt two way center playing with scrubs mostly takes all the toughest match ups

Stepan got you 7 and DeAngelo not sure how Buch and 22 is even close to that.

Like Monahan as a player but have big concerns w fit within the NYR current roster construction. He's almost a pure shooter at C. Stylistically he's...a poor man's Zibanejad. Is that really what the NYR need long term? Does that mesh with Panarin or Laf? Strome as a RHS has a much easier time setting up a RHS Panarin on the left.

In a vacuum I'd welcome him but cost to acquire as well as opportunity cost (how else could those assets be used?) make me skittish.
