You've got the shot at some tremendous talent at 6. No doubt about that. I just have a hard time wrapping my head around how dealing a guy like DeAngelo for futures fits into the plan.
I mean, I agree that it is significantly more likely Tony gets moved for help at C or LD that can play now.

But by the same token, I can also see the argument for backfilling the impressive core of young players and prospects the Rangers have acquired. We have a core of guys in the 24-29 year old range who are being paid/about to get paid, plus a TON of really talented guys in the 19-22 year old range coming up. (Interestingly, Rueschhoff is the only guy in the org who is currently 23 who has a real shot of ever playing for the big club.). The concept of converting one of the guys dead in the middle of that pack into one or more high upside 18 year olds isn't that farfetched.

i get it

i’m capped concerned. The pipeline is already loaded and a move like this would further load it. Meanwhile, the market is likely going to cheap are my thoughts. Not tying money up in ADA means the Rangers will have more on the ice through signings and have futures.

It’s a risk b/c ADA is still very young while those on deck have proven nothing.

I can understand that line of thinking. Having more guys coming in on ELCs will be huge for the cap but on the flip side I can't imagine that they won't also spend in the short term to make the team better. So if they dealt ADA for futures, they'd almost certainly start shopping with that newly available cap room.

he only has 2 years left on his deal then he's ufa. the last year of his deal is backloaded salary, cap hit of 5.2, but real cash of 6.75. they are a team that probably doesn't plan to pay that last year of extra $$ especially with the pandemic losses. I think it is more realistic now than last year.

Hampus Lindholm - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps

I think he's a long-term piece for them. I don't think they're ripping it down to the studs for the rebuild.

Does Buffalo even have the pieces to realistically land DeAngelo?

I mean, Reinhart is a nice piece, but I view DeAngelo as having more value. Would the 8th overall be in play?

I just look at their roster and prospects and don't see that one really nice piece I'd need to move Tony (barring Eichel/Dahlin, which is a whole different animal IMO).

When this came up, @Edge and I figured a package of Cozens and 8OA might be the Rangers’ ask.

No one is in a rush to trade him but the team is actively shopping him so clearly there is some sort of desire to get something done

Agreed I’m just waiting for a big 2-2 deal with a team like Calgary

Management better be right on Lundkvist though . Most prospects need some AHL time

I guess I would have agreed with you last summer, but that team is in a rough place where I think they are going to be changing it over a bit. Are they going to want to give Hampus a big extension in 18 months? Are they going to want to hold him for half a year before the deadline and pay the inflated salary vs cap hit with the pandemic ravaging so many owners? I really don't know. And the structure of his current contract raises an eyebrow. Teams line NYR front load the contract payments so they are attarctive to unload on the backend if they need to do it. Teams like the ducks backload deals so they can get max bang for actual buck on their players before they get moved to another team so the new team has to pay the extra salary. Essentially that is a way for "poorer" teams to save actual money. The structure of his current deal just makes me feel he wasn't meant to playout his deal in anh. I could be wrong obviously

Yeah I can see that line of thinking. It feels like a big risk but maybe it's one that the market is dictating.

You could be right. I know their ownership started spending more in recent years but maybe COVID has hammered them badly. Even then, however, I think they keep Lindholm long term and would rather look to trade someone like Fowler if money was that big of a deal.

I don’t think the Rangers would settle for that, not when you have at least two other teams inquiring about him.
Was Cozens a guy nyr was high on during his draft year?

If nyr could land pick 8 could they possibly add to 8 for 5 and secure sanderson?

Cirelli isn’t a difference maker? You can just stop now.
The Lightning won that cup because of Hedman, Point, Kucherov and Vasilevskiy. Everyone else on that team pales in comparison to those guys. They have depth, but so did the 13-14 Rangers. What we didn't have was elite players in their prime other than Hank.
