I don't think Tony is here long term, but he isn't going to be moved just to move him either. If the right deal is out there, Gorton will make it. If not, Tony will be re-signed, most likely for 2 years, and we'll evaluate again next offseason. If Gorton can sign him longer term for a reasonable number, maybe he does, and then trades him midway anyway. He still has 3 RFA years left, so any NMC/NTC wouldn't kick in until year 4 of the deal.
Didn't realize it was 3. Makes no sense but I thought 1. Stromeblinded. So, even less likely they trade him now. I tend to agree, I think and kinda hope he's only an immediate core D. In four years, he'll look for way too much... Anyone else challenged a fan to a fight, they'd be gone by now. Except Theo but he was at least entertaining.

I dont want to get too crazy with this but if the Rangers could make the deal with Anaheim and pick up 6 and 27. Depending on who the Rangers target in the say 6 to 10 slots,, trade the 6th pick down a slot or two and maybe pick up a couple of second rounders or a second and B+ prospect. Who would want to move up and make the best offer. At the end they would have picks 1, a pick between 6 and say 10, pick 27 and either two extra second rounders or a second rounder with a B+ prospect.. They would give up ADA and pick 22. I would hate to lose ADA though, but we are still building.

The message was simple yet still jaw-dropping. When asked to size up the trade market as a whole, this is how one NHL general manager framed it on Wednesday:
“The number of franchise-changing players available or being talked about each day is astonishing,” the GM said. “It’s just that no one has any room for them.”

The hype train is careening straight for that cliff in the distance.

If ADA is moved it should be for a young roster player at the same level of talent that fills a need (2C, LD) OR for a shot to get into the top 3 for Byfield/Stutzle. I don't see either of those happening right now and it's stupid to trade him just for the sake of trading him.

On the trade of 1oa issue, Tkachuk and 5 is a hard no from me, but Tkachuk, 3OA AND 5OA, is something I seriously have to consider.

Tkachuk is no Lafreniere, but he's another top 6 LW for your roster, today. The 3OA and 5OA for sure net you a center at least on par with a Zegras.... whether that is Stutzle or Byfield, you get one at 3. Say it's Byfield.

Then you also get another top-6, potential top line winger at 5, or a possible 1D.

Sanderson/Drysdale/Raymond/Holtz

I mean, that's an attractive haul.

A 1C, a 1D, and a top 6 LW.

So you would trade Lias Andersson and a 2nd for ADA?

Any player that gets Norris votes is going to have high value

and most teams would take the chance of locking up a player of his talent long term

I'd have to think in MOST other orgs around the NHL, ADA would be viewed as basically untouchable right now. Only reason he is available right now is the NYR's org depth of RHD. I would still argue for keeping him, but if he is dealt it needs to be in a great deal and I expect it will be.

I'm sure opinions of ADA vary across the league but there are enough teams who could "use him" and he still has some contract control so just get 2-3 GMs in a bidding war.

I feel like Cozens or 8OA would be the ask

I think it would be both with maybe a small add on our side. Lets not forget that Stepan was the centerpiece of a deal for 7th + ADA. Corey Schneider returned the 9th overall pick. I'd say given ADA's age, talent, and the fact that he is an RFA, makes him significantly more valuable than the previous two I mentioned.

They'd have to throw the bank at him to get him down long term living in Buffalo. Don't see that one working out.
I have no evidence to support this but based on what we about Tony, I'd wager a guess as long as he gets paid, he probably won't care where he's at. But I could be wrong
