I get it, but it's probably #101 on my list of top 100 pet peeves on HF. To each their own though, so not a big deal.

Sematics aside, my point is that Fleury, who is a LHD, played the left D position during the vast majority of his time in Carolina (both AHL and NHL).

What do you anticipate Carolina doing with all of those lefties ? Try to move Gardiner ? One of the younger guys ? Keep Fluery on the right ?

It's a bit higher on the list for me. Thank you for letting me get that off my chest.

Center is the position that can wait until next offseason. That is probably going to be a bigger capital investment, and the team needs to see where they stand after the dead weight being off the books, Mika’s extension, RFA extensions/bridges, expansion draft impact, etc. Zibanejad and Panarin are two line drivers. LHD needs the more immediate help.
If the plan is to fill the C from outside the org it will certainly cost us because we aren’t drafting him.

If one of the kids isn’t ready on LD I’m ok w a placeholder. I’m not going to destroy Staal but his replacement either within system or in placeholder won’t be diff to find.

Who do they have that's actually a compliment to Trouba? Staal? The guy they just paid to get rid of? Smith? The guy who played forward most of the year because he was so bad on D? Hajek? The guy who couldn't even stay in the lineup?

I think you're confusing "complimentary" with "crappy."
Complimentary was Crappy. But sure let’s make the same mistake again.

Yes. That C is not on the roster and probably not in the system. That player also probably isn’t coming at pick 22. Yes it is going to cost assets, but that’s why you wait it out a year so you have a better idea of what you can budget.

Hard to say for sure. My guess is that the top 4 will be Slavin-Hamilton, Skjei-Pesce. Each pairing has a solid defender (Slavin and Pesce) that can cover for the other two and let them be free to play more aggressively. They'll probably fill the bottom 3 roles with 3 lefties, Gardiner, Fleury and Bean.

That said, I think they'd move Gardiner if they could but:
1) just in this cost savings environment, not sure he's very movable
2) While he struggled early on, he started playing better at the end of the season before the RTP. Hamilton really struggled most of his 1st year in Carolina as well, so I think the ownership probably is ok giving him another chance.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them move one of Fleury or Bean though, in the right deal. No hurry to move them as Fleury was just fine on the right side, but it wouldn't surprise me.

They are likely to lose one of Skjei, Fleury or Bean in the Expansion draft, so trading one and then losing a 2nd really starts to impact the depth. It might just be better to lose one and move on.

Wonder if Florida is going to take a run at Krug after dealing Matheson.
From everything I've gathered... they're looking to dump salary/overhead... but still be stuck with the albatross that is Bobs contract

Maybe that's why Drury 'noped' out of there.

Assuming they lost a fortune, i wonder what Fla will do with their roster.

what a shame we don’t live in the days without a Cap. Barkov really would be coming here in a few years.

That was more or less debunked after Zito took over. I think they want to move out a few contracts like Yandle but their ownership group actually had a great year financially.
