In the past I know they really liked Buch and had some interest in Andersson.

If they were interested in Buch now, it would likely not work straight up for Buch as I think Buch may make more than on his next deal than Lindholm. But I could be wrong. If we were to add Andersson maybe they could add a draft pick or swap the 19 with 22 + another player to even out money.

Hey there Compadre. I have a smoking new Jaguar (full sized) at with 400+ hp... costing a bit in fines and at the gas station. And would I like a functional safe Volvo instead? Naw...

I hope the Rangers don't bring in any big names or salaries this summer. No to Eichel, Petro, Krug, Hall etc etc etc. We need to see what we have in the youth first. Because if they many pan out, a big ticket item this offseason could interfere with our ability to pay the young core in a few years. Right now, we have Panarin, Zibby, Kreider and Trouba who will be making a lot of money and will likely all be here in 3 years. At that point, we may have to sign Kakko, Fox, Kravtsov, Laf, Miller, Chytil and Shesterkin on their 2nd deals. That's a lot of potential jaguars. If we added another 8m+ player right now with lots of term and a NTC/NMC it's a potential disaster. It's the diff between being the Avs or the Leafs. Both are young talented teams. One has cap flexibility to keep building. The other is always on the verge of trading away very good young players because they're always up against the cap.

In 2-3 years, do we want to be the Avs or the Leafs right now? I want to be the Avs. I'm okay with Lindholm because it's a great contract and works as is but if not, is very movable if nec,

Just say no to high priced Jaguars.

So they think Chytil's future is definitely at C?

I think they wanna keep trying for right now. I mean as of right now they have Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Chytil and possibly Kravtsov on the wings as options. I think they want to see what he can do, and maybe see what happens if he is paired with a playmaking wing.

You forgot Laf! :(

Laf would really help Chytil from my view.

He’s had injury problems but what about hertl?

I love Hertl but he does have a lot of durability concerns. His injuries always seem to be big ones too. If we were only looking for a stop gap for two years and he came as a bargain then I'd consider it. Otherwise, I'd just keep Strome.

The main reason the Avs are the Avs is because they managed to get MacKinnon and Landeskog at huge bargain bin deals by locking them up early. If they bridged them before going long term, like the RAngers like to do, they would probably take up like an additional 8M in cap space and the Avs having all that depth would be no more.

One more reason to stick with the Chytil at center experiment a little longer.

And I say this as someone who has always been very vocal with my doubts concerning Chytil's ability to stick at center.
100%. Laf + Chytil can really work. The former might really help the latter.

That seems like a tear-it-down kind of move for San Jose. I think they're looking for a quick turn-around and bounce back season.

I think they look at their roster and want to see if they can strengthen some areas before having to tear things down.

I can't help but feel they are kind of in the same boat as the Rangers circa 2017. Some pieces still in their 20s, but maybe not enough firepower to get over hump, but potentially dangerous if the right pieces fall the right way.

They also didn't sign John Tavares.

If he had more than a couple years left, but with his contract up when Zibanejad, Fox, Kakko are up makes it a difficult calculation. If the team is going for it the next 2 years and believe they can contend it becomes more palatable.

I could see a team like Calgary thinking that if they can move 1 or 2 pieces via trade to help rte-stock or revamp their team/system while signing 1-2 big-time UFA's they can turn it around quickly. They have some good pieces. Imagine trading Gaudreau + Lindholm to bring in ADA + Konecny + ______ and then signing Pietrangelo, Markstrom and someone like Dillon.

To build on the Sens nugget Edge dropped in the Staal thread, this came out of a Garroich article about two weeks ago:

GARRIOCH: The decision to let Mark Borowiecki go to market will be just one of many changes in Ottawa | Ottawa Sun

Wonder what team has a veteran center that can play in the top-six they'd be willing to give up for picks?

Sens have 7 2nd round picks in the next two years. Sure makes it easier to trade one of yours with Staal if you're confident you can get one back for Strome.

I was unaware of this artile, but it makes sense.

Yeah I would think that after investing that much in Couture and Karlsson, they've got to think last year was an aberration as opposed to the new normal. If they could get some stability in net that would probably go a long way for them. Would make sense that they're keeping tabs on Georgiev.
