Do you think the Draft will be active in terms of trades this year? Both for Rangers and around the league?

I could see the Sens sending a 2nd for Strome and a guy like Anisimov Returning.

Only if DeAngelo gets a 2nd line C

Still think we are going to hear Krug rumors

I think the Sens will hang on to Artie through the year and flip him as a deadline rental. They're very keen on avoiding the situation that the Oilers put themselves in by handing over the keys to the kingdom to the kids without much in the way of veteran leadership.

Plus, keep in mind that they need to spend something like $18m just to get to the cap floor.

Unknown by me at this time.

I will say that I suspect Chicago is one of them, and St. Louis is the other.

You have mentioned Chicago before, in regards to AG I believe. Do you think their most recent conversation is regarding him or other business?

Thank you as always for the info.

I would be surprised if he didn't come up. But even if tentative agreement was reached, I think Chicago probably wants to see what happens with Askarov first.

On a personal level, I'm hoping McKenzie's list is close to accurate and Jarvis is sitting there at 17.

I know it's a risk, but I'd swap with Chicago for that opportunity.

If that’s an issue one wonders why they bought out Bobby Ryan.

Read this is a very deep draft so i would think teams would hold onto their picks for inexpensive kids with a flat cap. I think RFA and UFA will have it tough.

Kreider lucked out big time IMO

I think we could see a lot of trades of current roster players with teams eating 50% (arbitrary) salary.

I think what you could see this year is teams making draft moves based on preference.

For example, you might have a team that wants more depth, so they're willing to trade down for more picks to get players they like. And on the flip side, you may have teams that feel comfortable with their depth and want to snag a guy their scouts really love.'

But I don't know how many big "name" trades we'll see. I think in those cases, it'll be about lining up dollars.

OTT wants cost certainty with inflated cap hits. They won't take on Salary.

You get creative. Sign and Trade. Pay the bonus money. Collect the Picks. Use your advantages.

I'd like to see the above pulled off. Ownership will approve of it where they can.

The way to maximize value on Strome to a deal to OTT, and make it appetizing to them and a potential steal to the Rangers is the following:
  • Strome signs for two years. You split the dollars as high as you can on year one, and apply the year one bonus ratio based on out based on the draft picks OTT is willing to pay. Year 1 has a $700K Base Salary, Year 2 has a lesser hit, and no bonus.
  • Player gets paid, team gets picks, OTT gets a completely phantom hit on year one. This way, some teams have to compete by building a good farm. OTT can be a farm and still compete. They have a really good system.
  • Player gets paid, realizes on the time value of money.
If you get 2 2nd round picks, and a conditional 3rd that turns into a 2nd. You are getting good value. But.... this would be something to do if there was a second line, and another bottom line center in place, or two alternative middle six centers.

If Gorton is able to trade Staal... and HL... that's godtier.

I'd assume SJS one of the locations HL will waive to go?

Strome for Tiereny + Brown? is that wanting too much? I'd be down for a straight swap tbh

Well I think that number is post-buyout of Ryan. They're saving real dollars with that buyout, which is why I would imagine they did it. He was a big ticket contract who wasn't producing commensurate with his salary.

A Nashville area friend of mine tossed the idea of Arvidsson for Buchnevich at me today and I didn't have an immediate answer in a yes or no direction.

not sure how that would help us in the slightest...being signed for 4 more years is the only plus I can see

I like Arvidsson a lot, but he's another LW.
He's a right winger, I thought.

This is why I say this. Arvidsson is two years older but is signed very reasonably for the next 4 years. Buchnevich is going to be more expensive after next season. Arvidsson has hit 30 goals and 60 points twice, two feats that Buchnevich has not accomplished as of yet. Arvidsson can flat out fly and shoot. He's a great top 6 option. Embarrassment of riches at RW too if you have Kakko and Kravtsov at RW too. Not even considering Gauthier as a possibility either.

Being in the position to add Lafreniere is really making everything else fall into place. The Rangers should be looking to trade a winger for a center or LHD this October. Kravtsov looks like a totally different player. Kakko is going to be one year wiser. Buchnevich is still here and RFA after this year. Kreider and Panarin are locked in. And then you have Zibanejad in the middle whom can be injury prone and not relied upon to stay healthy. Who's your #1 center if Zib goes down? Chytil? He's not ready. Strome? Eeeek!
