Or, it makes Strome expendable and you see if you can move him for a LD.

But, the hesitation to move Buch is the current situation on RW, so it's possible the wait until they see more from Kakko, Kravtsov and Gauthier before weakening RW even further.

Buch and the #22 for Lindholm as a base is something I absolutely pull the trigger on.

If Lafreniere comes in and shows he is capable of producing in a top 6 role immediately, and I think he definitely is capable of doing so as he is much closer to a finished product than Hughes or Kakko were, I would be surprised if they didn't try out Kreider on the right side. He's not going to spend the year on the 3rd line, he's too good and we have too much invested in him for that. Allows Lemieux to move up to the 3rd line and provides an opportunity for him to produce more offensively.

In your scenario, we would have this:

-8 mil for Trouba
+7.143 mil for Hayes (the contract he signed in Philly)
+3 mil for Pionk (the contract he signed in Winnipeg)
-1.075 mil (max) for whomever Hayes replaces
+5.1 mil for not buying out Shattenkirk
-2.8 for buying out Staal

The net effect, at best, would be adding 3.693 mil.

No, you're buying out Shattenkirk in a vaccuum and assuming everything else would stay the same. I wouldn't have acquired Trouba, I would've possibly traded Pionk, I might've tried to sign Hayes, I would've traded Kreider, etc....

Sure, if you JUST keep Shattenkirk and assume everything else then it doesn't make sense - but there are A LOT of other options that would've had to be considered and implemented as well.

I don't doubt this, but, I think it probably sets up a Strome deal as one similar to the Skjei deal last year..more likely after the start of the season.

We will see. Another option is expanding the deal with Carolina to also include Slavin. Don't remember who, but I saw a proposal of Buchnevich/ADA for Lindholm/Hanifin. That would allow you to shift Strome to the right side. Then, go see if you can get Virtanen for a reasonable price..

Panarin - Lindholm - Kakko/Strome
Lafreniere/Kreider - Zibanejad - Kakko/Strome
Lafreniere/Kreider - Chytil - Virtanen
Barron/Smith - Howden - Fast

Hanifin - Trouba
Lindgren - Fox
Staal - Smith/???

If Kakko shows significant improvement, expands on what he showed after the COVID break and is worthy of top 6 minutes, the depth in that group of forwards is incredible. Fast on the 4th line?

3rd defensive pairing is ass but Staal comes off the books and hopefully Lundkvist is ready, next year.

You mean Hanafin?

Slavin plays for Carolina and isn't going anywhere. I'd pass on that deal as Hanafin sucks.

You're watching the guy who is playing now, some shifts with Hedman, some shifts with McDonagh, on the best team remaining in the Stanley Cup playoffs, with a Vezina trophy winning goalie in the crease lol.

I'm watching a guy that has value to a team that's in the Stanley Cup Final who's playing 20 minutes a night and somehow had NEGATIVE value to a cellar team that's rebuilding? He's never been a 1D, never been a defensive D, always a little risky in his own zone. You want to criticize the Rangers for signing him in the first place? Totally on board with that but some of the takes on his game border on the ridiculous. On one shift last night towards the end of the game he single-handedly kept the puck in the offensive zone three times on one shift. He's not a net liability. Is he worth 6.5M/season at this point? Nope.

13.5% of our cap next year is going towards paying him not play. That doesn't sit well with me at all.

Any RD in the league would benefit from playing with Hedman. No shit.

I thought it was Squire too

I know stroke me cuz funny euphemism hahahaha

To me billy Squier is kinda like Bryan Adams if he actually rocked. From the songs of his I heard at least. I mean both basically have two songs lol
Dude... Squier has way more than 2.

Callie O
Big Beat
In the Dark
Lonely is the Night
My Kinda Lover
Learn How to Live
She's a Runner (my personal favorite)

just to name a few

And if you can ever find old vinyl of his early band Piper you won't be disappointed (never released on CD and I don't think it's streaming anywhere. I do believe you can find videos on youtube). - Can't Wait and Who's Your Boyfriend are great (He rerecorded that one for one of his solo albums too).

I grew up not far from where he was from. He had a killer backing band as well.

Shattenkirk was abysmal last night. He can't defend at all. I cannot for the life of me understand the obsession some have with this guy. They don't need him when they have DeAngelo, Fox and Lundkvist coming. The same people rip DeAngelo and his defensive game but wish the NYR kept Shattenkirk. LOL.

Maybe if you actually read what I wrote you wouldn't have this take on it. The issue is the buyout not that the Rangers "needed" him and I've never ripped ADA's game - he's been a really pleasant surprise. The Trouba trade facilitated the need to buyout Shattenkirk and Fox hadn't played an NHL game yet.

This was the first time Dunn's name came up.

Surprised to hear Andersson has as much interest as he does.

Enlightening to hear how highly the team spoke of Lapierre and Greig in the draft. Level of intrigue with Biondi.

Greig's rankings seem to be all over the place...I wonder if he is a guy that you just take at #22 or if he's your target, you could move back a few spots still get him and add a 2nd?

What about pursuing Philip Danault the Montreal center. I think he’s a UFA after next season. Maybe a sign and trade.
